Hi Emsworth I might be able to assist you.

Purley isn't too far from me (Newdigate).

What sort of quantity are you on about? A transit tipper size load?

2. Hi there. Ooops! No I haven't. I was using a normal set of headphones for log splitting but they weren't ideal. I foolishly thought the leap from headphones to ear defenders wouldn't be too bad. I was wrong. £400+ Even Husky at £200 is well beyond me. I'll stick with ear plugs. Sorry I should have done my research before launching a thread. Bob
3. Hi Chaps, I don't post much, but I was after advice. Bluetooth Ear Defenders Are they on the "allowed" list? I know they might be a distraction but I mailnly work on my own. Any recomendations? Thanks Bob
4. Thanks For that. One to remember. Ta Bob
5. Hi, I know the Artics can get 25/26 Ton on , but how much can an 8 wheeler shift? Sorry for the silly question. Bob

Good, but the one I show to teams at work is Vinnie Jones "Staying Alive" video from British Heart Foundation. It's all over youtube. Unforgettable. .......... Bob
7. Hi, here is my effort. (Not a log seller just a bit obssessed with not having enough) I have two sheds that have evolved over the last 9 years. A shed was made in 6 foot sections as I had a load of split 13ft scaffold boards and second hand OSB. All treated with Creosote/used enfine oil mix and covered with torch-on roofing felt...the only real expense. B shed was going to be a haybarn but changed plans meant logs.. Last pile is inspired through a German friend and was he tester for several arond the garden. Mrs likes them and unlike the sheds when the logs go I get the space back. Bob.
8. Maybe not an Arb show(?). But I have seen them use horses at Bentley Wood Fair. They seem to be a bit lighter on the ground than a lot of machinery. I was interested as I had a keen Shetland that was broken to harness and was happy to pull...maybe not as much as the video. :-) Good one. Bob
9. Got a mate that is high up with this gang. They bring in their own trees from scandinavia. Might be worth a go, but with luck you ought to be able to find a source closer to you. Evergreen ::: Welcome Bob
10. Sorry to ask the silly question, but how big is a bag? West Sussex where? Horsham / Lancing? Ta Bob (Dorking)
11. Andy, Jon, I agree with your points entirely. My angle was that if the original poster purchased items from Auctions ( even eBay) and through the register found they were stolen he would be able to recover his money. Point taken in that prevention is far and away the best method. I also admit to living in the dreamy world that believes the police will eventually catch the bad guys, and more importantly justice will be done in this life or the next. I saw the thread and saw the opportunity to try and add some positive info, to help. That's all. All the best. Bob
12. Nepia, Didn't want to offend. I think we were both typing our replies at the same time. The reason I'd used TER was as much as anything 5 items free. I hoped that if the Police used the register too it would increase my chances of recovery or even some form of justice. Thanks Bob
13. Nice one. I know it might not necessarily give you the bits back in any use-able order, but my main hope was that it would lead to the conviction of the dirty rotten b'tds that take the kit. p.s. my local crime prevention team used to do the UV marking kits (meant for TV's Vids) so I marked post codes on the inside of covers. Belt/Braces affair. Ta Bob
14. Sorry to disagree but there IS a national register. I have a mate in the Plod who says one of the places they use is TER plant register to check ownership... as do some insurance companies. You can register up to 5 items for free. Home - The National Plant & Equipment Register I know this might not help original poster as many domestic users probably don't use it. Hope this helps.. Bob
15. I have sent you a message. I hope that I can help out. Bob
16. Steve, Sounds about the same as I was always told. I run my little Jotul flat out and I'm lucky as our chimney isn't too tall ( single storey lodge) so I lose the tar straight out the top. My sweep never gives me a hard time, so I hope I'm doing something right. Softwood, not just for kindling.... Still interested to hear other views though. Bob
17. I hope that the "local dealer" is FR Jones. They were unbeatable on price when I looked. Let alone customer service. A short drive from SW London but well worth it. Bob
18. To add my 2p worth... Feel Awkward about this as I use my saws to chop logs for my own use and so consider myself a hobbyist compared to the hardcore arborists here. I always work on my own. I find others a distraction and an additional risk due to their unpredictable movements. Having a laugh is great but I find best done after the work is finished , or during a break. Not during as concentration wanders...accidents happen. BUT I work in the Railway environment and so am always working as part of a Team ( minimum 2) and find the PPE chat interesting. My job can be a bit PPE obsessed. Let alone rules/regs. PPE is good. It is NO safety net. Your safety net is following procedure and not taking excessive or unessesariry risks. Everything must be mitigated or don't do it! Hence when on my own working, my wife knows where I am and I ALWAYS have a phone or method of summoning help. Then a first aid kit, thermal (foil) blankets in the truck etc... No offence intended. These are my views / experience in my 30 odd years of work. Bob
19. Sam, Nice and Tidy!
20. They look like Vole holes. I had 3 things work. 1- My cats regularly bring bits of them in. 2- Mothballs - Small thing like the previous message. or 3- The Ultimate...??.. a few litres of unleaded poured down a few of the holes. Then a match. It looked like Kuwait for about 5 minutes. But they were put off for a very considerable time. Not very e-friendly but very e-ffective. Not something I'd do as a matter of course, but when you are desperate then desperate measures.. They only run a couple of inches under the surface and I found blocking the holes ineffective as there were just too many.
21. Nice one. Going to give it a go. Thanks Bob
22. Love it. More really useful stuff. My silly question is, how have you pegged that tyre down? I can see the small pieces of wood out of the base.... but I don't get it! Sorry.
23. When I've had Cherry in the past. I've always kept the nice straight clean bits and sold them to wood-turners. They love it. As far as the burning...I have a stove and don't really get to appreciate any aroma's unless it's having it's final dry underneath. Very subtle smell. Bob-z-l
24. So happy. I thought I was odd one out slogging away with my Axe. Really has made my day..... Cheers. Bob
25. All I know is I helped a couple of mates take a largeish one out about 4 years ago. It made us all as sick as dogs. Mrs Googled it and found out it contains a "natural" form of Arsenic and it is easily absorbed in the spray (?) when sawn. Burnt alright. Always wear gloves when handling logs so I've had no further problems. Should mention that one is now no longer with us. That was Cancer, surely not related!!! Sorry, Bob
