what an amazing short film...........great find..... some very spectacular scenery, very impressive.... some very interesting facts in there with some very surprising figures, makes you think about what we have done to the planet........ all said and done the earth and trees will out live us all were on the route to our own destruction well IMO anyway....it will fix its self when were gone. no doubt.

, the spacer is only needed when a loop is past through the pinto eyes there for all the pressure would be pulling the side plates together....with the spacer in-place this will eliminate all those forces...... splicing the two eyes of the plates does the same thing as all the forces is pushed downward on to each side plate evenly..... nice..... yeah my dads is a pretty basic one but really easy to use, if you go on to the nasa web site it gives you a list of what planets are in the northern and southern hemisphere month by month...... also loads of other stuff to look out for..... NASA - Home

i love watching venus, but being pretty close it does move fast....so having a steady hand helps...... have not had chance to go to mum and dads lately but will get there and get the scope out again...... big bolt.....interested about jupiter what the position of it now... Ian what scope you got? Adam

got one from my local curry house, and the other from tubs and tanks in deeping st nics near spalding.....£6.50 there both 30l ones and ideal for lowering kits, also said by deer man.........fruit farms and other takeaways just ask around mate, are you wanting one? if i pass T&T i'll grab you one, you working for me 2nd week of december so i'll give you it then mate..... back to davids thread then.......

great stuff Reg... i was always under the assumption that the both cuts leave the tree at the same angle, given they are the same degree in angle, and to change the force of the dynamic piece of timber (in this case) then you would have to change the degree of the gob...... i can understand what you are saying Reg, but to some who never use this cut on a large scale (including me) would never had noticed the change in force's and the impact it has on the dynamic branch/stem leaving the base...... i guess its something we could all play with and come back with some kind of report on it......see what different views we get.... just a thought.... adam.

I think in all respect to HSE they would like us to use our common sense, but at the same time stick to industries best practices regarding H&S. as for were we would stand on the insurance side if anything was to go wrong????, that i'm not sure about...... there are very thin lines regarding PPE, CE, H&S, INSURANCE, and COMMON SENSE. All we can do is just comply as much and as best as we can. we all make mistakes, thats what makes us human, but urinating into the wind is asking to wet.....

can really see what your saying and i do support you views, but were never gonna change whats now legal requirements, thats like saying we could get petrol down to a £1 a litre ............right ooooo. i use stuff thats not CE marked i know of 3 climbers that use a harness thats not CE marked and 2 of them work for an AA approved firm....how they get away with it i don't know.....its like when you have you kit LOLER inspected, i wonder how many people put the stuff that failed back in there kit bags..... we all do things we should not but we always look at the risks....or at least we should do.....

Maybe your risk assessment should tell you not to climb the slippery wet beech and do something less of a hazard, return when drier .....just a thought, my old company before it was taken over was HSE crazy crossed his t's dotted his i's on every page, and looked after his staff before his wallet, there is no such thing as common sense no more giving what you think is safe a whole new meaning..... this does not mean we don't use our common sense any more but we just bend the rules a little, being freelance means i sometimes work for firms with no qualified staff, maybe i shouldn't according to HSE... BUT being extra safe and using my common sense means everything to me, at the end of the day its my decision and my call if the jobs a go or not...... if you feel the different boots will help then go ahead IMO i can't see how they would....risk assessments written on paper or done in your head are there for our own good.....
