  1. the rules with fuel are a bit OTT at the moment and i dont see them changing much, a garage dowm road from me that i have used for 30+ years was recently sold to M&S, a revamp took place and when it re-opened i went to fill truck and saw fuel cans when it came to the saw fuel pump would not work as they would not switch it on, then some one came to me and said the can has to be on the floor as you cant hold it up in the air just incase you spill petrol on yourself, at this garage i cant fill can and see how many ltrs i have put in can on pump screen, asked about this can on the floor at another local garage and was told fill it how you want as long as you pay for it,

  5. yes by all means put it through make 5 bowls put them on ebay / facebook sell them then do the country fairs as that will all be cash put your expenses through and a bit more besides and you know what to do with the rest, claim a bit more on your electric bill for lighting, dust extraction and powering the lath, if you dont put it through it will be costing you as if customers pay BACS paypal etc you can be sure that the HMRC will want there cut, i put everything out door related through coats boots wellies fleeces etc and have just been pulled up on one item which where a pair of meindle dovre boots £240 accountant asked why i needed a pair of £240 boots, i replied there warm, waterproof and comfortable to wear and if i had a nice dry carpet under my feet like you i would only need a £50 pair of shoes like you, but unfortunatly i work outside in the elements, no reply from him and yes they went in,
  6. we do it now and then 100 x 22mm treated boards, set both corners up measure the gap between and work out how many 125mm spaces available and dont forget to add a extra 25mm on, usually 25mm gap but it dont allways work like that just done some on a log store and gap worked out at 35mm gap would be fine ant where between 25-50mm ,

  11. The curse of all foresters, butt rot that was the only tree out of about 90 in last 2 week with rot in the base and that was only there due to it being a triple stemer,
  12. Hi you should be able to get £140 - £160 a day depending on expierance and what tickets you have 2 recent jobs 1 was £12 a tonne working on a average of 2.75 tonne per tree so the more you do the more you make and the other was a windblown clearance with some trees over a boundry 2 of us went and worked out at £300 each for a 7 hr working day + 1hr traveling each way so not a bad rate where are you based at ? and the views are free of charge,
  13. if it was that scotch bloke which i think it would be he had a tripple heart by pass on a monday came back to work on wed dropped dead sat afternoon so its safe for you to return,,
  14. looks shit at the moment both grindlton and longridge but what they have just cleared will be re planted by end of march and there is trees on both them sites that are now 15 - 20 ft tall and when i first went they had only just been planted,
  15. that about 3 year ago that photo looking across to pendel and that bloke a big fat scotch guy ?
  16. longridge fell in lancashire if its views you want my job has many fantastick views from lancashire west yorks north yorks and the lake district and most are from the top of big hills so you can see for miles the site at longridge you can see many places on a good day like all the ribble valley then preston ,southport, liverpool ,the wirrell, north wales, great orme anglsey snowdonia, and on a really good day IOM and southwest scotland, do you get the picture, but this morning i was trudging round longridge fell looking for 120ft tall spruce trees and couldnt see F - - - All till i was about 15 - 20 mtrs off em,
  17. its at your end of Longridge fell up birdy brow they have just taken 12,000 tonne off, i wish the payment cheque was being paid in to my bank account,
  18. Jack would you cope felling 8 -12 of these every day felled snedded and processed ? just had 2 wk of these big lumps and just got finished about 2pm today was having tomorrow at home and then was to find my self a few days shooting to occupie my self for the rest of the wk but thats all gone tits up. now spending tues, wed, thur and fri delivering logs and timber, that tree was 55" across where i cut it and was rotten in middle.
  19. Go back and give it a go for a day or 2 and see how you get on, open doors in to forestry work dont come a long that often and as for the football chat, well i am with you on that one can you not get them talking about the womens world netball championships, a lot more interesting than football,,
  20. Forestry is not a job you just walk in to and be on the ball from day one, cutting to spec takes some getting used to, when the tree hits the ground you need to vissualy assces that tree and work out in your head (quickly) what you can get out of it to max out cost at road side, there is a cross over point from one product to another and as some products are more money roadside than others you dont want some thing cut at 1.8mtr when it could of been cut at 2.2mtr and that log worth a couple of quid more, We do not cut 1.7 or 1.8 fence posts any more that timber goes in the chip stack at 3mtr less cutting time, less arsing about with calipers, less forwarding time all for about £5 a tonne less, the numbers just dont add up on fencing posts for us, Drinksloe said buy a logging tape and while you are there buy your self a set of tree calipers as well, the only thing i can say about spec is that we cut several product lengths out of each tree and some are listed below, 450 and above would go at 2.5 mtr over size 500 - 350 4.9mtr saw log 500- 180 3.7mtr saw log 250 - 150 2.2 or 2.5 strainers 220 - 150 1.9 bars these are just a few as there is so many different specs to cut to it takes a bit of sorting, on a recent job we did there was 7 different specs 2.5 o/s 4.3mtr saw log 3,7mtr saw log 2.2mtr strainers 1.9 bars 4.9 mtr jump poles and 2.5 mtr chip,
  21. No not a problem at all with them i have had one since 2013 and the fuel solenoid went about 3 months ago, when i took it in i was given a printed diagnostic report saying fuel solenoid but the thing that supprised me was 389 working hours on it which i thought was quite a lot for a small saw, got the fix done and now back in action on a regular basis, use it for snedding out as its light and a ballsy little saw, proberbly been the best saw i have owned and i have owned quite a few over the years,
  22. £42 aint that much to have the right piece of kit for the job is it ? and i wont use it that often, i said that and how wrong i was, now have 2 800mm ones and a 1200mm one all get used thou,
  23. CS34/35 singulare and multiple windblown,
  24. you do right by getting the correct certificates (not licence,s as quoted in the email) i have CS 30,31,32,34,35 ATV , EFAW+F and several FMOC tickets and i dont regret doing any of them as if i did not have them i would not be doing the job i do which i love doing and really enjoy,
  25. just had a look on there website and it dont give you much info about what there chainsaw courses consist of, i personally would not bother with that and just go down the NPTC route at least if you do that your certificate will be reconised by most major UK companies and as you said your money wont be wasted,
