  1. Sorry I misread. I thought you wanted to make one.
  2. I know TP are popular cos they're light but I've done comparison trials with Bandit and TP. Bandit wins, no question and not just on performance.
  3. If I was you I'd buy Stephen Blair's Iveco 4x4. I would.
  4. What he said.
  5. My apprentice recently left after one year with me, 3 days a week. He still needs two years of guidance but he's now out by himself mutilating trees! It takes a long time to learn this stuff and you'll never know it all. It really is a life's work.
  6. Well it won't be in his area now so it's all us chaps that are far from him that need to keep look out. Any distinguishing marks Sean?
  7. Except what Paul has done is start from scratch and made something that will put up with the rigours of what we do. Here's a good thread on The Treehouse about it and I've put my name down for the first one when they come out in a few months. SO much better than having the lanyard trailing around and wrapping round legs and saw.
  8. Search for cambium saver threads and other related. You'll find it all there. The answer is yes BTW.
  9. Wow! That second one is amazing! I can totally see myself there, fishing rod in one hand, bottle of fine vodka in the other, Rhona Mitra doing.............oh, better stop before I get banned!
  10. Hey, you can't use photos of my house Butler!
  11. What Skyhuck said or just carry on burning it. The amount that you're burning isn't going to melt the ice caps. One of my tip sites has some wood land and the owner is happy for us to dump our scrapings in the woods as it rots down anyway.
  12. What's the point in insurance? A tree surgeon local to me that has been operating for about 25 years has "Fully Insured" emblazoned on the side of his truck. I once asked him what NPTC qualis he has. He looked confused as he had no idea what I was talking about. Now, we all know that you can't get insurance without qualis but he always has work on. So my original comment, what's the point? Anyway, I've been with Trust and always had good deals with them.
  13. That would attract more 'have a go merchants'. Also, pros wouldn't make good entertaining viewing. Have you ever seen S&S Aqua loggers? Holy cow.
  14. We have such a broad range of business types here on Arbtalk, this question is not an accurate gauge of anything. The first member may say that he's only booked for five days but he doesn't mention that he only does domestic tree work and he's always booked for five days. The next member says he's booked for five months but doesn't mention that he does tree surgery, forestry, fencing, farming, haulage, landscaping. I've been well booked for months but now it's Chritsmas so enquiries are at a standstill. Guess what type of work I do
  15. The only way to progress the industry to a point where our earnings reflect what we do is to eliminate the 'fringe contractors'. i.e. gypos, cowboys, gardeners etc and make it an elite only profession. But until our errors kill members of the public, like gas engineers could, there will never be tight legislation to control our industry. The government will never fund such a scheme, like Gas Safe, and no private consortium or VC group will do it as there won't be a financial return for them. In short, control of our industry will never happen across all sectors. ChaS, AA & HSE enforce control measures in the commercial sector but I'T AIN'T GOONA HAPPEN in the domestic market!
  16. I read on another thread that they are not.
  17. I have only used a Pulleysaver but the concept is the same. i found that if it's chocked up tight to the tree it won't release.
  18. Magic post:thumbup:
  19. Exactly!👍 I bought a ZK1, used it for eight months, then passed it on. Money very well spent due to what it provided for me.
  20. Sorry to hear about your harsh situation. You're wrong about your future not looking good. This is just a temporary dip and if you're positive and want it, you'll be back on top sooner than you think. Rekindle the spirit within👍.
  21. Back to the subject: I priced to plant a Laurel hedge, as a sub-contractor. We started digging and found a 12" thick reinforced concrete slab. 1.5days of labour with a mini digger and mini skip turned into 4days with a 5t digger & breaker, 2t dumper, 5t telehandler and 4 skips! Looks like the client is about to knock me for the lot because patio slabs cracked even though they were pre-warned and said ok. 👎💩👎😢😢
  22. I can't talk about build quality Ty as I've only just got it but it looks good. I think you have to be careful because its aluminium but the stability afforded by the design is unparalleled. Being able to stick the front leg in the hedge is a real bonus, as is being able to straddle small shrubs by extending all legs. The SWL worries me.
  23. I bought the 3.6m with adjustable feet and used it for the first time yesterday. and it's brilliantly stable and nice and light. However, I then discovered that the max SWL is 100kg! One of my groundies is 95kg in his birthday suit, the other guy is well over. Do any heavy guys use them and have you broken yours? 100kg seems a bit slim considering a man wearing PPE and holding a big hedge cutter will be using it!
  24. That makes sense but I've got no idea how that would actually work. Do you have a video link.
