  1. Hi, Does anyone use a uk based company that does good quality seasoned or kiln dried hardwood nets? Cheers Ash
  2. I bought a house about 6 years ago with a log burner, it was about December time and I couldn't find anyone locally that had seasoned firewood in stock. Bought some ash lengths off a tree surgeon because the Internet said "you can burn ash green". After the winter I had a bit left over so netted it up and put it on eBay. Had a few people come and collect that summer and though "I could be a millionaire here" [emoji23] Roped a mate in to throw in a few grand and got ourselves a little unit, wallenstein log splitter, chainsaw and an artic load of beech. The rest they say his history!!
  3. You'll be lucky to get any grant funding for a machine over the last 2 years. Everything in South Wales stopped in 2014/2015 after the woodfuelwales machine stopped rolling. Havnt heard of anything since!
  4. Your right! But with the Posch k-600 being close to £100k I believe you've got to have a lot of perfectly size timber for that machine to make it pay. Can you imagine putting 10" stuff through it all day! [emoji30] if you had one of those machines you would have to have a 360 or similar to go with it. I probably have less than 5% of stuff in my 1500 odd ton a year that would be usable size for these machines.
  5. What Boiler do you have that doesn't like it? Our 2 loves the processor "waste" that comes off the conveyor screen. Burns better that logs
  6. Yea it's a good idea. Just as a personal input we sell 1000's of cubic metres a year and I don't have a splitter. For how much big stuff (+14" that won't go through the processor) we get, it works out about a weeks work for someone per year. I hate chainsawing and splitting so would much rather get someone in and pay them!
  7. Best thing to do is spend days on google and hours phoning around everyone for the best price! With the tarrif dropping I bet people have stock sat around they want to shift!! I have a list of suppliers somewhere on eBay from when we built ours so if I find it I will pm it over.
  8. Kilns are working really well in this weather! Temp going in at 25/30 deg!
  9. I may be wrong but I think it was a British government scheme backed with away money? Edit: I was wrong, it comes directly from the treasury! Ignore my original post about the RHI payments [emoji23][emoji23]
  10. I was a remain voter and It's abit worrying. I'm on the RHI tariff and import about 15 containers from Europe a year as well. There's no reason why when all the negotiations start and everything is re-written they won't ask for their £950 million pound back that the away invested in the RHI scheme and scrap the whole system. Not really worried about the exchange rate as I paid 1.26 in February and it went down to about 1.22 at its lowest on Friday, seemed like it was abit of a media storm in a tea cup. If import tax/duty is put on wood then it would impact the price of imported wood. That in turn would mean more people would try and buy uk cord and drive up the prices on hardwood which are already reaching £80+vat a ton in South Wales for half tidy stuff! But like everything nobody knows! We will wait and see what happens!
  11. How many cubic metres can you fit in it though? Our transit can hold 3 cube so it's nice to run 3 out at a time
  12. Until everyone has to buy British wood and they will very very quickly realise there isn't enough on this little island to support it
  13. I used to fit our farmi in a 20ft container folded down. Great machine for the money. We put probably about 1000 cube through ours and quite a lot of big 300- 400mm stuff through it and it didn't miss a beat. With the road tow kit it's so easy to move around as well. Would highly recommend it.
  14. I see your point maybe 2 years ago but not anymore! The tarrif is basically nothing now unless you go 200+kW and I'm guessing if your looking at a small splitter and chainsaw you won't be in the market for a 40+k kiln system. And your 100 cube in a 200+kW system won't last you very long!!
  15. I've seen a few on eBay in the past but they seem hard to find!
  16. Between £5 and £40....
  17. It's possible but you need to be competing with imported timber, at the moment for kiln dried birch your looking at £55/60 per loose cubic metre delivered
  18. We use NFU. They have covered us for the ins and outs of a cats a***e for about a grand a year! Employee liability, public liability, business interruption, building insurance, processor, 2 kilns, £15k's worth of other tools ect ect ect.
  19. I think it's all sold now
  20. Good answer! That explains it then! [emoji106] didn't realise it was to do a specific job so it sounds like abit of a beast
  21. Just out of interest, how much is this homemade log processor costing? With the parts you have used AND your time charged at minimum wage?! When you can buy a towable/petrol processor from someone like farmi for £10k or a second hand Posch 350 for £12k i don't really see the point in making one. In my opinion it's never going to be as good.
  22. I forgot to save your number mate! Sorry!! Can I have a load please? Barry's son Malcome Morgan comes here all the time. (AJ Firewood in Pontypool) Could you give me a call or text on 07772280850 again please? Thanks Ash
  23. It's a decent price for someone looking to do small scale like a few cube a year for a biomass Boiler or something. The farmi wp30 is 600kg without engine and road tow kit but I think its about £7/8k for engine/tow kit so a few grand more. A tidy splitter and chainsaw is £3k so it's seems to fill a small gap between them, If your budgets £5k looks a half tidy bit of kit.
  24. Some of them have been through 20+ times and still seem OK! They come with a string tie on the top and bottom so you can tie them tight, they don't move at all
  25. http://www.bagsupplies.com/cubic-log-nets/ These mate! They are really good to be fair. We don't normally put them in if we are doing normal stuff but because it's so thin they keep falling out. I think we paid about £200 for 100
