  1. Yea it's all ash and beech. They don't insist but I make sure anything that goes out to our pizza oven customers is under 10% on the inside of the log
  2. 10 cube of 500mm skinny stuff for a pizza restaurant this afternoon.
  3. Not sure why but it won't let me PM you, if you could give me a call or text on 07772280850 I would be interested! I'm only in Pontypool so not far away. Cheers Ash
  4. I'm looking for a log splitter to process rings that won't go through the processor. I've had a wallenstein in the past and it's a great machine but I'm looking for something with a table at hip height if possible. Petrol or 3 phase (would rather petrol) Able to process 400/500mm at least and around or under the £2 mark. Any recommendations?
  5. Do you season the cord first, dry the rounds or kiln dry it in the nets?
  6. Yea always thought a Luton van with tail lift was a good idea!
  7. Yea depending on the size it says in 10" long rounds! Most of it is perfect size for a split into 2. Doesn't look like it but there's a lot of 4 way stuff in it as well! Perfect for the Posch 350!
  8. Just getting through this pile at the moment. Mixture of Ash, beech and alder
  9. If you have somewhere to store it Save your money and time and Import kiln dried. If it isn't your full time job your time is precious! days you will be processing 3/5 cube a day you can be our delivering making money and you won't be waiting a year for it to dry. Firewood is a numbers game and to make any money out of firewood you need to be doing high quantity! Buy a few crates of Ash for kiln dried and sell at £120+ a cube and birch for seasoned at £90-100 a cube so you have 2 differing products. You will be saving a lot of time and making the same money! If you havnt got a forklift to unload it hire one for a day for £60-80.
  10. Yea we always took the chain, bar and socket off at the same time and put them back on the same. You better get used to taking the chain off it Iain! They do like to go through chains!
  11. Done nearly 100 cubic metres to RHI customers year to date. You only need a few customers doing 20/30 cube a year and it adds up. Another guy contacted us yesterday for a drop of 15 cube to start so it's going well for us
  12. If 1ton was 4m3 I would be a millionaire! [emoji23]
  13. Hard to say as it depends what tarrif they are on. But my guess is they burn 1.5/2 cubic metres in 10\12 hours. Duffryn would be best to say! Probably about £100 in RHI a day per boiler. 200ish days to £20k (depending on tarrif) so 350/400 cubic metres per boiler would be my guess and that's a big guess because there's so many variables!
  14. 90-100 tons per boiler? Because 100 ton would give you roughly 160-170 cubic metres. Are you saying you burn about 40 cubic metres per year per boiler and get £20k? Just out of interest how long do you run the boilers for per day? On the metre, how many kW per hour are you getting? Batch boilers being about 50-60% efficient I'm guessing you will be getting about 80-100kw an hour?
  15. Jusus I thought our fuel bill was bad! [emoji23] How many cubic metres are you burning a day?
  16. A 2.35 high, 1.2 wide and 0.8 deep (external) gives me 2.8 cubic metres of loose logs. Depending on the Euro it's about £140-150. Crate for birch. Extra £5/10 for ash
  17. There's quite a few threads about kiln drying and seasoning. A log at 15% that's been kiln dried or air dried is exactly the same
  18. Really? It might go up from £50/55 to £60-65 a cubic metre. At £120-130 a cube Still worth it and more so for people that sell them direct in the crates as well. No messing in and out.
  19. No one should be envious, they are a complete pain in the arse! I've said it a few times on here I wish I had a little unit with very little overheads just importing firewood and selling on.
  20. I was just cashing my RHI cheque actually
  21. One of ours is a 40ft container that we have reduced down to 20ft. We put the hardwood that we sell in the fan side of the container and the fuel for the boilers in the door side of the container. We couldn't get the hardwood in a full 40ft container dry enough in a quick enough time. Putting it down to 20ft with an internal door means we have a drying time of 5-6 days. The other kiln is a drying room that holds 30 cubic metres. It's more square than a container so holds the heat a lot better. We have also put the fans/heat exchangers in the roof pointing down. The main issue we have in the container is the top crates dry and the bottoms don't because the heat just goes up and stays up. Putting the fans in the roof has made a massive difference in the quality of the bottom crates.
  22. Yea I'm £95 seasoned and £120 kd
  23. If it works for you well crack on! Kiln dried will be here to stay if you like it or not. 58 cubic metres booked on for me this week so far, 43 of them kiln dried. I wouldn't survive only selling 15 cube of seasoned a week.
