Bahco adj wrenches are the best I have come across, my "go-to" spanner was a 10" adj rubber handled Bahco, as favoured by plumbers due to the wide jaw opening, quite superb, currently mislaid, hence I have been using the 15" and 18" big brothers(eye wateringly expensive for all I use them for, but a pleasure in the hand) for surprisingly fiddly stuff, which they can do due to the tight tolerences. I proper hate inferior tools and despair in this age of knowledge and CNC machining that such shite continues to be produced,(and that people buy it as well, sigh) when 100 years ago they could make good tools, with proper steel therein. I may yet design & fabricate my own wheelbarrow and long tailed shovel, our of pure despair/inability to purchase. Shite HSS Drill bits are another beef of mine.

On the subject of hot/sexually attractive women, Mrs. Obama ticks all my boxes, especially in light of her close relationship with Barack. As I espoused at a rather PC meeting(at work) & exactly in line with Hairys earlier observation, there is a certain pleasure in being an older male, since a greater %age of the female population become sexually attractive, I even had the grace to concede that I could only presume the converse was also true, for the benefit of the few older woman present, this observation only seemed to make matters worse!

Aside from currently rendering myself relatively skint (as a result of an implusive house purchase, viewed, offered and offer acceptded in 10 days) I am still in the notion o a compact tractor with a loader. Anyway seriously eying up a Hurliman Prince 45 or a Kubota MK5000, when I spot Zetor are about to start production of a new model, a 49HP "Minor" in early 2017. And Zetors are supposed to be cheap or at least affordable? Hmmmm!

And, quite seriously, that is the key, build up the kinetic energy(speed) in the business end, with a big long accellerating over shoulder swing starting low, and finishing and at the very moment before impact, "free-wheeling" into the block, concentrating on the aim and control. It should look smooth and effortless, if correctly executed (boy! have I not got a quare good memory) Presumably exactly the same as a good powerful (& effortless looking) swing for driving a golf ball? keep it simple(or hydraulic)

Despite being reared country Presbyterian, by a reasonably God fearing mother, I simply could not believe in any religon, both our children independently came to the same conclusion, despite "churching" probably directly as a result of RE being rammed down their throats at school, on the basis of "stop asking awkward questions I cannot answer, you just gotta have faith". And unfortunately, on balance, the various religons down through the milliena have undoubtdly done much more harm than good. BUT, for whatever reason the bulk of the populace seem to need a creed to follow, blindly or otherwise. Be it sport or Church or new BMW's. I think the Bahai faith are probably nearest the "truth", in their core beliefs and many uncertainies, but the key is striving to do good, for others as well as oneself. This based on sketchy knowledge gleaned from our son who forged strong friendships within the local Bahai community as an aldoscent, and ourselves meeting some of the parents of his friends.

Ah ha Hi-lighted the crucial statement, that perfectly identifies the cause of our current sorry state. The root cause was the quite understandable desire to "de-stigmatize" the situation of lassies who "fell pregnant" outside of wed-lock. But the inevitable consequence, once the bleeding heart Liberal PC Feminists types got in charge, was the creation of a rampant benefits culture. Crudely put "breed for profit", well at least free housing and living expenses, then Maslows hierarchy of needs kicks in and we end up in todays sorry state, with an ever expanding uneducated ill-mannered unemployable very expensive* to keep underclass . And need to import furriners to actually work, some of whom are unfortunately then attracted to our generous benefits system. Tough, but true. *expensive due to lifestyle choices putting enourmous extra costs on the NHS, Councils, Social Services, Police and Insurances.

Purely from an agricultural background, I only take my wee saw to the v good local dealer, for "open heart surgery" type ops/mechanicing, all the basic "nuts ,'n bolts" stuff, I do myself. Anyone who deems themselves competent to use a chainsaw should be able to do the routine stuff, and quite a bit more. ESPECIALLY sharpening, and I mean correctly/properly, with a round file and guide. Bit like most drivers, and their lack of mechanical understanding, I suppose

Senior Management aye spoke of "first principles" and quoted a contemporary on the Physics course who could solve problems that he had no background knowledge of, by starting with the absolute basics, i.e Joules for energy and temperature in deg Kelvin, literally by "thinking", not remembering, "remembering" was apparently for the thickos on the Medical course. The Civil Engineering course I attempted was also big into "thinking", one of the Professors was fond of saying that was his task, was to teach us how to solve problems by breaking them down to the basics and "thinking", not "teach" us how to be Civil Engineers. These 2 later life examples were no different to my farm based upbringing, where a bachelor Uncle would fond of saying "would you fornicating think", about ALL possible outcomes for any decision or action, good and bad. Or indeed often phrased "what the "f" did you think was going to happen", after the ill considered or rash decision/action by my younger self . Which basic premise has stood me in good stead throughout my 57 year life. The above also applies to filtering the vast amount of misinformation on the internet. Reasonably easy to identify the nuggets among the gangue. PS I ud be glad to be a Mentalist btw!

Transplanting a few mis-placed/wrongly planted ash and apple trees today, with an 8 tonne digger, we will see how they get on. A good job the Mrs. were busy in the kitchen while I plundered about in the flower garden! But at least wonderfully wonderfully dry everywhere. marcus

Hold me back Bob! Cos ah love drains, Looks like Springs, also looks like running sand, which is to say sand(of a particular grading) suspended in/by water. Water MUST be rising, ERGO intercept the source i.e. "go deep" and solve the problem. But it would be useful to know the area & disposition of the wet spots. And yes "tramping" about with machinery is generally enough to disturb the soil structure such that the water very soon erupts elsewhere. The drains will almost certainly need Geotextile filter membrane to prevent the running sand infiltrating and blocking the pipes. Would LGP Eddie not have useful input? Cheers M

Pie Eater Pete, If David Tunstall chooses to sell the Solis tractor range, the engineering must be sound. Carraro front axle = "tick" Perking engine = "tick" Renault gearbox and back end = "Tick" all solid proven components. being bought by prudent farmers as "Scraper" tractors, tough and simple. Tunstall's mechanic was just finished removing all but 1st and reverse gears from a brand new 50HP one, ordered by a Diary farmer, for his "gung-Ho" Polish stockman, the only way he could keep the speed down apparently. A bit cumbersome I suspect with the longer wheelbase, and limited? steering angle, but steadier on the road/with a loader or linkbox. PS A source phoned me a few minutes ago that JD are bring on their "free" loader (worth 4k) with the 3036E this winter again (& same offer as last winter, with a cost-of-living few% price rise) I make that about £16,500 incl VAT, unless I misunderstood. So just perhaps I will satisfy myself with 36HP for now, and then trade up if needs be.

Now a MF 430, it is actually still for sale (unlike those other bollocks of WAY out of date(but always cunningly undated) internet adverts) , but MF430 price looking a bit stiff for my limited justification. Kubota MK500 or the wee Hurliman Prince 45 are my backstops (& identically priced too) Santa gonna be good to me:thumbup:
