Is cost or perceived stability on slopes the deciding criteria? I would favour a small conventional agric 4wd tractor, like a Deutz Agrokid, I saw a 60HP cabless model advertised recently for stupid low money. On fat tyres set out a bit perhaps. The farmers in the Alps seem to manage fine on shocking steep slopes with relatively standard tractors is all. And surely the mention of rushs implies boggy, and Alpines are belly low and easier to bog, get stuck. cheers marcus

Our local Hermes driver is known to us, he used to run a shop, he actually appears to enjoy his job, AND knows his rural del area very very well. Ditto the DPD guy, Polish I imagine, dels to both my work address and our home, hes been on this run for a few years now. Another outfit tried, on more than one occassion to leave various deliveries, which were for near neighbours, with us, I oblidged the first time, but politely declined the second, and less politely, the third time. I have not seen them about recently. Local postie is also a long serving guy. 2 out of 3 of the above, will sign for deliveries, and leave parcels in through the front door, or round the back if it is raining. Senior Managment keeps them sweet with homemade jam, which seems to work. Bytimes tis good to be part of a settled rural community.

Less single parents living on State subsidies. Ditto less divorced and separated couples. All living on their ownsome, & most probably state kept. Less defacto "couples" offically living apart, in separate state paid houses, to maximize their benefits, while they rent one house out for cash and live under the same roof. Less couples with 17 or 27 children , demanding, and getting mega room mansions, at the public expense. etc etc How the heck could any society provide for this unending unpaying demand, I can not comprehend. Eggs, I cover Cemetery bookings 24/7, have done this few years and will do for a while yet, without stand-by payment or rancour. Though over the Easter stand-down I did have to go in and therefore claimed my 2 hrs call-out. byw. I do not expect staff to work shifts or weekends without some commensurate enhancement. Though triple pay for the possible 12 days Public Holiday a year is perhaps questionable, on top of another 28 days paid leave. And still some whinge! We might, very soon be put on 7 day rolling shifts, covering from 0800 to 2000 min especially over the summer months. I wont particularly like it but, tough, its a job. I may also have to switch to another office 25 miles away, and I currently work 3.5 miles from home. I came off a small farm many years ago and still vaguely remember what a days work was, getting wet, and the hard earned value of a pound. Unlike others I work with at various levels who think the sole purpose of the Council is to pay their Salary, for working when it suits them. However, I kinda understand, as local Govt employees, we are paid to provide a Service. So yes, I will be judgmental. Simples. marcus

Less 3 day weekends and 10:00 starts. And Reception or nursing staff should be trained, equipped and expected to wipe the (copious) blood off the glass at the reception desk. witnessed with my own eyes, up close like. It was there for hours and hours "not our job" being the response when I finally commented like it was still there when I finally booked out of Causalty, untreated, and stitched myself up at home. Dats da beauty o a closed in stove, strangle the air intake, for a controlled, by ear, "burn". Wor 'owever 'umble 105BHP 1.6TDI Octavia wit der DSG transmission just lifted a 3000kg (weighed so I actually know) up a moderately steep lane with speed bumps and then manouvered said trailer back and forward, in around steel stanchions in a dutch barn. Some 4 miles later. With zero clutch slip or fuss, other than a wee scrabble from the front tyres, never pulling more than 3000rpm and only using D1 to pull away from a dead standstill, and then only v briefly. Who needs 3 litres. m
