  1. we charge £30 a load for clean chip or just brush.. thats a transit size with high sides..
  2. what i'm tryin to say is if i price a job down the road to take down say a big beech or oak tree that could be felled [or fell the butt], and say the butt is 30ft long and 3 to 4ft diameter, i no i can get in there with my 12inch chipper, and lift the butt in couple sections with the tele handler onto my 14 ton trailer. now i no from experience that the job for any average tree guys in my area would take them 3 days with at least 3 men. [most work in cuttin, loadin and clearin butt and all saw dust] but i no i can do it in less than a day.. no matter how hard i try i'll never price the job for 3 days, yeah i do price it well and earn serious money from those sorta jobs but still cant help but feel its the customer who benefits.. same with stump grindin.. since i bought a bigger machine i'm always pricing for the big one [assumin i can get it in the site] and as the big ones easier and lot quicker i'l tend to price stumps bit cheaper than if i were usin smaller one..
  3. having the kit to do a job quickly is a good point but its hard when pricing not to pass that savin on to the customer.. we did a job a month ago near london.. took down 14 oak trees, had to remove everything from sight and grind roots out all in 2 days.. we did it in a day and charged £6000+vat and sold the oak for £2400.. i had mog and 14 ton grain trailer on back, 3 transit tippers all loaded with small chord and paid my mate to pick the butts up with his artic timber trailer and delivered them straight to my buyer.. i had our telescopic forklift delivered there and back by low loader which we moved all butts around sight with.. all wood chip stayed [luckily].. the hole job with timber and forklift haulage and wages cost me £1500 for that 1 day so i was more than happy with the profit.. i later found out that they'd had quotes from 10 to 15000 and none of them could do it in 2 days [let alone 1] some were sayin 10 days which with couple 3.5 ton trucks and 6inch chipper that'd prob be about right.. should i have charged more?prob is they wouldn't of had job done if it was much more..
  4. i've a company owing me £4400+vat since jan 2010.. there a LTD company and after speaking to a solicitor looks like i can write that money off.. they too said they had a company who owed them a large amount.. they gave me couple payments of £200 each time and thats last i heard.. all there phone no's are disconnected and they were in a serviced office and have left with no forwarding address..
  5. takes 2 men 2/3 days to process an artic load chord wood.. 26 tons cost me £1300+vat... £450 to process in wages.. so total each load owes round £45.. not great profit.. and thats without running tractor and processor and small digger loading processor, advertising to sell logs and diesel and my time delivering.. only bonus is i get 3 loads at a time on my truck and rarely go out witout 3 to deliver.. and do min of 10 loads day 7 days week for 3 months up to xmas..
  6. in my experience an average artic load [26 ton] works out to be around 40 loads once processed.. i charge £80 load for just over a metre.. so £3200.. bit less as there buying in bulk..
  7. the manufacture arbour plant will sort you out.. there based near reading in berks.. 01189401740
  8. i bought a used and apparantly refurbed front mount chipper for my mog few yrs back from them... nice paint job and decals.. but hadnt been refurbed at all.. main bearings went within 1st week and none of the drive belts had been changed and showed signs of wear... he did give me good price for my old 10inch greenmech though and delivered machine FOC.. just have good look over whatever machine you wanna buy and look beyond nice paint job..i bought mine over phone without viewing but didnt think i needed to as it was meant to be fully refurbed!
  9. £350.. can be there around 9.00
  10. how many stumps we talking?
  11. main drive belt used to go quite often but since replacing it with series of v belts hasnt been problem..
  12. had a 252 [which was stolen before it was a yr old] and replaced it with a predator R28.. imo the predator is much more versatile machine with the variable width tracks.. and with the multi tip teeth makes for very quick changes..
  13. all you have to do after the 3 yrs is up is sell the machine to a friend or family member for say £10 and then buy it back for £11.. just by raising an invoice it takes ownership away from you and no more £100 yr payments to hp company.. we do it with tractors and machinery all the time..
  14. you'd prod do job lot quicker by havin fire and price of woodchip wouldn't justify the time and expense of chippin.. i get £6 ton for my woodchip and i load it.. roughly £160 for big walking floor bulker full..
  15. i had real problem with my old 10inch schliesing.. dulled very quickly [few days] and machine kept blockin... had similar problem before that with a 10inch greenmech although not as bad but noticeably different soon as it was used with saturns blades... this was 4 or 5 yrs ago so might not be so now.. i'll only ever use genuine blades now no matter how much cheaper pattern blades would be..
  16. i normaly pay £50 ton delivered [26 or 27 ton].. he's just put price up to £52 ton as fuel has risen..
  17. i've 2 big tracked grinders and tractor mounted also.. be happy to have a look and give tou price..
  18. i have one under the bench somewhere.. had same trouble about 5yrs ago.. wasnt runnin right and couldnt get bits to fix.. your more than welcome to any parts you might need
  19. if a battery is flat or terminal come loose then ignition on my 1600 wont turn fully..
  20. seems fair price to me.. theres 2 guys not far from me.. both charge £350 day but thats with a climber, chipper, groundsman and 2 trucks.. i tried both but you dont get lot work done in day for the £350.. i tend to use them on big high priced job so looks to customer that theres plenty blokes and machinery on site.. 6inch timberwolf can be hired here for £100 day so think your price is quite fair...
  21. no worries mate.. will do..
  22. i bought 6 artic loads firewood over summer... all were 26 tons... 2 loads were real big stuff.. some up to 30inch's diameter the other 4 loads were all processable sizes... the bigger stuff we cut with MS441's amd 660's and split and we got another 5 loads extra per artic load compared with smaller stuff.. and it was £5 ton cheaper to buy..
  23. i look in all local papers every week under plannin apps and any with tree work in get one of my leaflets in post to them.. no different to gettin inundated with letters leaflets etc from builders, groundworkers, roofers, window fitters and decorators when i applied for an extension on my house..alls fair in love and tree work..
  24. Its a New Holland 7030 mate...
  25. listen mate.. i've never climbed in a tree in the 15 yrs i been in business.. i'm not a climber i'm a business man..theres plenty good free lance climbers out there who if you pay em good money will do great job.. you dont have to be a climber to be a tree surgeon.. i've never climbed a tree but i've taught at least 3 groundies how to climb in last ten yrs who all have permenant climbin jobs with reputable firms.. if you cant do it get someone else to do it and price the job accordinaly which is what i do and i've never been short of tree work at any time..
