  1. hi mate.. total job sounds like 4 to 500 quid to me.. all depends what you want to end up with in your pocket at end of job or day... i'd have to pay a climber out of that money so your be 150 in font to start with.. i'd want to do 2 jobs of similar price in 1 day to make it worth while for me... if your just startin word of mouth is better than any amount of advertisin..
  2. i get mine delivered in chord in processable sizes at £50 a ton.. roughly 27 ton on a load... we deliver half transit load slightly heaped in middle for 80 quid.. last load i had i got around 33 loads out of it and time i had paid my 2 lads to process it i was left with £800.. which is £25 load.. less fuel and less adverts... only good thing is i got my truck designed so it takes 3 or poss 4 loads at a time.. which is invaluable on savin time and diesel.. and we were doing around 12 loads a day for 3 weeks up to xmas.. unless you have good amount of your own firewood [thats cost nothing] to mix with it i wouldnt think theres much profit in it..
  3. amersham in bucks mate... not far from london..
  4. and thats plus vat.... i womt be puttin as much through chipper this year thats for sure.. time i've processed a load i'm lucky to clear 30 quid for half transit load.. not good when its normaly all profit apart for bit labour..
  5. i pay 50 a ton delivered for beech and ash.. all processable size.. or 45 for bigger stuff..
  6. think it depends on what area your in.. basic labourer wage on any buildin site down here is still 90 to 120 a day.. so i hav to pay same for basic groundsman.. one lad who does a bit climbin ie top biggish conifer or reshape or fell 50ft tree is 130.. and he drives mog too..climber who can do anything is 180 a day.. he was 150 15 yrs ago when i first started.. he is quick though.. i'd like to find someone to take work load off him but its very hard to find freelance climber down here..
  7. thats no problem.. if your down south working let me no.. i got a hook loader trailer goes behind mog or fastrac with 40 yard bin so could drop that on site..
  8. hi ed... can you get an artic in your yard [assumin you'd have enough wood to fill it] and have you got or can get use of a telehandler to load it.. i'd pay for someone to load it and give u few quid for wood..
  9. could do that no problem and arrange haulage but what they payin..
  10. we did it few yrs back along with stump grinder... took less than 5 mins.. had to check oil and water.. start machine.. check if kill switch worked and then chip couple branches.. same with stump grinder.. ground an old tree butt for 30 secs.. blokes who'd never so much as started a stump grinder before passed easily..
  11. i used to tow a 12 ton grain trailer behind mog or fastrac and then ifor williams behind with stump grinder on.. got pulled couple times [ only ever on motorway mind] and never mentioned a thing about the 2 trailers.. just stoppin to check stump grinder out.. dont think you'd have same luck behind a 4x4....
  12. i'd be very interested in a bulker load loose..at right price obviously..26 ton or whatever they carry.. i'd a thought a return load from u if u could find one should be around 3 or 400 quid to bucks.. j4 M40...
  13. i like pricing behind them... i'm told i charge too much at times but some of there pricin is just unbelievable...
  14. i had an R reg L200 when they first came out.. that was an import.. all the toys on it as standard.. put hilux's etc to shame at time.. i ran it to 100k miles then sold it to my mate who only sold it lasy year with 180k on clock.. usual starter motor alternator prolems but that was it.. and i just put set goodrich mud terrains on my 90... if u get stuck with them on your proper stuck..
  15. looks good job.. my climber always takes far too much off for my likin.. usually cos it makes his life easier.. perhaps not quite 25% by your photo but good job all the same..
  16. soon as he's found a replacement for warrior i'll message u with details.. its in black.. no tow bar.. and comin up 40k miles.. its obviously old shape being an 05.. he still wants 5 grand for it when he sells it but there will be VAT on top.. although he'd prob take some in cash to keep VAT down if your not registered...
  17. we're in amersham.... bucks... i'll speak to him tomorrow.. he was tryin to find something to replace it with first.. i no he was lookin at range rover yesterday..
  18. re badgedyeah.. VW taro wasn't it..... single cab hilux
  19. ..i think the old shape are better than new.. seem more reliable.. i had 3 older shape ones.. onlp problem i had was gear box going at 60k for no reason.. my mates got a mint 05 plate warrior.. never towed a thing [no towbar] and only 30k on clock.. uses as a car.. he was talkin of sellin for around 5 grand.. lotta truck for money...
  20. hi callum.. i had a L200 warrior brand new in 2006 when the new shape first came out.. nice lookin truck with all the bars etc.. drove nice being an auto and good off road... absaloutly gutless for towin [even after i had it chipped] and i drove a manual at the time which was no diff... i did 100,000 miles in 2 yrs and to be honest it wouldn't a lasted much longer.. engine seemed tired [had every service done at main agent].. gone back to land rover now, very basic after a pick up but new engine they put in pulls like a train.. i'd go for an isuzu 3L rodeo rather than L200..
  21. your right.. we recently bought 12 acres of woodland from forestry comission.. it was very cheap as only access is through our farm except for small bridlepath which would be impossible to extract timber through.. timber is ready for harvest but covenant states can only be thinned and never clear felled.. theres another 40 acres comin up 4 sale right next door to us [as 12 acres was] and we'l be tryin our best to buy that too....
  22. hi andy.. we recently bought 12 acres off forestry comission.. only because its right next door to our farm and cos it was very cheap as only real access to it is through our land so no one else could access it other than through a narrow bridle path... the timber is ready to harvest but can only be thinned due to plannin regs and can never be clear felled, theres foot paths runnin through it already so dont think it'l make much diff who owns it...
  23. hi there.. we did similar thing with a 40 ft 3 axle step frame.. brakes worked fine on fastrac, mog and now on a new 50k new holland tractor... plenty of air pressure.. my cousins done same as u with 2, 40 ft flats.. he's got one on air and one converted to hydraulic brakin.. think you'l find that going down route of using a bogie and draw bar is now illegal....
  24. we try and get 100 a load [half a transit, slightly heaped] but mostly 80 or £90.. in buckinghamshire..still plenty doin same load for 60 though.. trouble is i'm payin £50 ton delivered..get around 30 to 35 loads from artic load.. time i've paid lads to process or split that load i'm lucky to clear £35 for half truck load.. i've designed body so it takes 3 loads [or 4 if you wanna throw 1st load off by hand] at a time and very rarely go out unless theres 3 loads to deliver..
