  1. was just thinkin same... we'd prob charge £ 130-150 bit less if custromer came out while we were workin next door for instance... but hour, hour and half max we'd be on to next one....
  2. not far from u... in fact been in your town deliverin logs today.... amersham i'm from...
  3. is there enough in the job for me to come from near london... i'll travel anywhere if moneys half reasonable...
  4. shame your not bit closer.... down here we pay that for 6 inch on wheels... last tracked 8 inch jensen i hired was around 160 a day...
  5. was at george michaels house in goring yesterday grindin out big horse chestnut stump..
  6. your not far from me... i'm J16 mM25.. if you wanna come have look/drive of mine feel free..
  7. thats good to no... we got 2 new holland tractors with 50k [30mph] boxes and air brakes.. and a fastrac that does 40 mph...i thought they were all to slow for motorway..
  8. we only use the chip to put down about foot thick every time we clean sheds out.. then bed with straw as usual.. chip does good job of soakin moisture and holdin it. straw goes lot further. we use neat chip on outside areas... only problem with chip[ is we're still ploughing it back out the ground every year.. doesnt rot like straw..
  9. i do.. but traffic officers who stopped me obviously didnt... very polite.. one occasion one brake light out and another to tell me ratchet strap had come loose...
  10. we couldn't chip enough woodchip if we worked 7 days week to bed our cattle and every load gets used for beddin as well as over 500 tons straw.... apparantly i could still run on red and sell the chip to other farmers as long as it was for animal bedding.. its bit like haulin straw with tractor.. run on red if its for farm use if its going to a power station or compostin plant then supposed to be white....
  11. i was asked once.. many years ago by customs about the diesel situation and as the mog is registered as tractor and we got farm with lot cattle i said the chip it produces is used for cattle beddin.. they said long as chip isn't left on sight and is taken back yo our farm for beddig it wasmt problem.. we been stopped several times on motorways by traffic police towin 14 ton agri spec grain trailer and [ for odd light noy workin] and they dont seem to have clue about regs..
  12. and has anyone ever actualy been pulled up on it.. we're not supposed to run tractors on red when deliverin hay to stables but who's going to police it...? customs officers? i very much doubt it...
  13. me 15 yrs and far as i.m concerned you can never do too much advertisin... as long as its directed in right areas and you have time time to look at each job that rings up no matter how big or small... many times i.ve got a very small job for £60 then end up doing a full day in that road..
  14. roughly speakin and going by what i sell my oak for a butt just over a metre in diameter and around 12ft long would be £600.. ish..
  15. i've got a vermeer SC50 on tracks and a predator R28 also on tracks... how many stumps you gotta do.... i'd give you a very reasonable price to do em..
  16. i use my SWB mog everyday with front mount chipper.. lot of our work is for private clients and there aren't many jobs it wont go in [height can sometimes be problem] its same width as transit give or take inch or 2.. only thing with LWB is you'l struggle to get it in tight driveways etc..it drives 12 inch chipper with ease runs on red diesel no tax cheap insurance and people wont try to nick it as much as a towable chipper.. i tow a 14 ton grain trailer behind mine up and down motorways... once you've had one you;l never be without it..
  17. my 1600 prob uses a tank full every 2 days.. thats if its runnin 6 or 7 hrs day.. holds around 120 litres..... runnin on red its cheaper than my 7.5 ton lorry and 10 inch chipper used to be to run.. and lot less hassle..
  18. i look at what i spend a week and what i earn a week.. [turn over] like i said before i only need one smaall job for 300 in a week which covers advertisin costs.. do lot work for excistin customers and recommendations and hell of lot new customers.. since friday nite i've had 7 jobs come in to price.. there all new customers.. and i got job tomorrow mornin for 550 for previous clients neighbour.. the statistics dont really worry me.. i pay out 300 and get min 10 times that back in week [without weekend work].. job i do on a sat pays my 2 groundsmen for week and diesel bill and any foldin i get pays climber for week.. mog and chipper are payed for so long as i can find work i'm happy... very happy.. but your prob right about the %'s..
  19. price per cubic foot usually..
  20. yeah that'd be great.. mines still in warranty and park brake never gets used [afrter i explained to better half that doesnt need usin] but the manual disco is out warranty soon so might be useful..
  21. disco 3... my dads 08 plate has been in 3 times with park brake fault and my sport once.. but lights on again... not that it ever gets used bein auto
  22. i just put some goodrich mud terrains on my 90... un believable difference they make..
  23. turnt over exess of 160k last year.. without any of the foldin stuff that you cant help to accumulate in this job.. so around 10% i guess..i'm more than happy with thaty return..
  24. most of it goes on local papers [especialy for firewood] think we're in 6 or 7 at mo... thompson, yellow pages, BT phone type local books etc.. several internet ads.. i used to do lot more but couldn't get round all the jobs... i'd say for me the best ad's are local papers, way i look at it is one average job will pay for all the weeks ads.. we have a company who puts 5000 flyers out at a time as and when i tell em.. that works very well.. deliverin firewood is also good.. give em a card and 1 outta 10 will call re tree work..i also have a skip hire company and always give them a card which has tree surgery details one side and skip hire on other.. that works well.. but like i said all i do is price work..all tree work is done by my guys unless its stump grindin which i can usualy fit in with pricin.. butwe're always workin so must be doing summin rite...
  25. without a doubt word of mouth.. but unfortunatly thats not gonna keep you in work full time.. depends what your budget is... for instance a local paper in our area is around 250 a month.. but same size ad in thompson local or yellow pages is not much more for whole year.. i spend round 15k a year on aderts.. but thats all i do is price work.. theres no point in advertisin if your not gonna have time to look at each and every job..i'd def say put small one in thompson and or yellow pages then put one in local paper.. doesnt have to be in every week.. do what ever u can afdford..
