  1. I have an AGT835 and have been using it to skid 60 year old beech out of a woodland. I was using a simple frame attached to the 3 point and was pulling them out one at a time but I was amazed at what it would pull. I did try hooking it up to an Igland 3601 winch I picked up but the geometry was not great as it sat too close in to the tractor for the PTO shaft. I have since invested in a Uniforest 3.5 winch as it has an offset PTO meaning more room for the shaft. Drop me a PM if you like and I will try and answer any questions.
  2. An alternative would be to treat as coppice and cut them on a cycle.
  3. Oregon 10 Inch Double Guard Chainsaw Bars | Clark Forest : Chainsaw Bars & Chains Oregon 91VXL040E Low Profile Chainsaw Chains | Clark Forest
  4. I also have 280wes and would be interested to know if you manage to get any more out of it. Mine also seems a bit slow to pick up and rev out. The best thing I have found for it was to swap to a 10" bar as it is much more nippy. I think this is the right tool for adjusting the carb: Carburettor Adjusting Tool Screwdriver For Walbro & Zama Carbs D Shaped | eBay
  5. This is what that seller has sold previously: eBay Feedback profile for morley109 Does not exactly scream forestry to me! I suspect it is a hacked account.

    Dolmar

In an email Makita UK told me they would honour the warranty on any European Dolmar as long as there was a UK equivalent Makita model and they could get the parts. But never tested it so no idea if its true!
  7. This is forestry but presume the guidance is the same for Arb? http://www.ukfisa.com/assets/files/safetyLibrary/FISA%20804%20-%20Electricity.pdf

    Dolmar

The dolmar / makita 6400 7300 and 7900 all share the same chassis so you should be able to put a makita / dolmar 7900 pot and piston on your 6400.... Or you can get this which will give you 84cc Nwp Big Bore Piston & Cylinder Assembly (54Mm) For Dolmar 7900, Makita 6401, Solo 681 Chainsaws | NWP | Pistons, Cylinder & Ring Kits | www.baileysonline.com
  9. I can see both sides to this - dealer and consumer. But what about the manufactures? It seems to me they are manipulating the market massively by offering dealers saws for different prices in different countries and then not offering the dealers any support as internet sales erode businesses built up over decades. Surely they could do more to support the dealers and offer a better deal to consumers?
  10. Spotted this while looking at tracked barrows and suddenly I want one! Crawler lawn tractor PEGASUS | Crawler lawn tractor | AXO Group
  11. CS34 and CS35 have been combined into a single ticket: Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees Using a Chainsaw http://tkftraining.co.uk/cs-34-dealing-with-individual-windblown-trees/
  12. I have one. It is super light but does lack power. I was a bit disappointed at first but swapped to a 10" bar and now find it pretty nippy. I think it comes with a 2 year commercial warranty as well.
  13. Haddon Lumbermaker Chainsaw Mill Made in USA | eBay
  14. We are in a similar situation. We don’t have a big enough saw to run a big mill. Our saw is a Makita 6401 so 64cc. We went for the 'small log mill' and 'mini mill'. As the small log mill only clamps on one side you get more cut so with a 20" bar you get an 18" cut. alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill By the time you have taken the sides off with your mini mill you will be just right for planking with the small log mill.
  15. Yes sorry wrong block! This is the right one: 4.5" 4 Ton ( 4000 kgs ) Heavy Duty SNATCH BLOCK Swivel HOOK - Pulley Lifting | eBay
  16. Were you using a snatch block? 3" 2 Ton Lightweight Heavy Duty Snatch Block Swivel Hook - Lifting Pulley | eBay It will double you 1.6 ton up to 3.2 ton......
  17. I have had wire rope from here before - they might do a winch / pins for you: Rope Winches from SafetyLiftinGear
  18. I have an 800kg ACE tirfor clone which gets used almost everyday. It is light enough that it can be carried into most woodland sites. But I also have a 1600kg tirfor that sits in the van 'just in case'. If you get the 800kg winch get one of these to go with it: 3" 2 Ton Lightweight Heavy Duty Snatch Block Swivel Hook - Lifting Pulley | eBay Can be used to double the pulling power so allows the little winch to haul bigger timber.
  19. I dont know why - but it is! I recently imported a piece of machinery from Germany and it was totally painless and about half the price of the UK. I suspect we are just paying too much as there is not enough competiton - but as it gets easier to import machines direct from Europe and cut out the 'middle man' prices will start to come down. What are you thinking of importing?
  20. Regarding VAT I dont think you pay the Swedish rate. If you are VAT registered they should sell to you without VAT but then you pay (and reclaim) the UK VAT rate on your VAT return. But I have never done this so not 100% sure! Info here: VAT between the UK and Sweden
  21. Is this what you are after? 7mm Grab Hooks | Clark Forest : Logging Equipment
  22. I started off in wellies and they are OK. Now have these which are the cheapest boots I could find: Oregon Waipoua chainsaw boots (class 1) | F R Jones and Son
  23. Veg Oil for the last three years. Never had any problems. Don't understand why people use anything else!
  24. Contact your local Wildlife Trust, National Trust, Council Countryside Service, Conservation Volunteers group ect. All will gladly let you volunteer and get some experience. Some might even train you. Good luck!
