  1. I would guess Lime seeing as the bark is peeling off so much.
  2. Ive got three of these sheds (2 for hardwood 1 for softwood), each hold approx. 70m3 of wood, keep a tarpaulin over the top weighed down by tyres. Pallets and old fence panels on the ground to keep the logs dry.
  3. We spent the last week felling 3 large redwoods and a few smaller broad leaved trees in a large woodland garden. The client was worried they might fall over onto a very busy road after the recent storms. Took about 60 tonnes of timber away.
  4. Very true!
  5. Todays job was dismantling a beech growing between two garages, beautiful tree just in the wrong place. Very small drop zone and lots of obstacles in the way. Got a chance to try out my new yale 11.7mm rope on the petzl zigzag. Back on monday to section the trunk.
  6. I was on yell for years, got very little response from it. I now just have a free listing which gets me the odd job. I wouldn't recommend paid advertising with yell.
  7. Thanks for the advice buddy.
  8. Nice piece of kit. What did that set you back?
  9. Water damaged!? Just let them dry out for a few months and they'll be fine.
  10. This has got to be the worst one yet! I wonder if all the brash is included in the deal?
  11. Good job lads
  12. If I was driving a modern 100hp tractor while towing 10 tons at 20mph, how many mpg am I likely to get?
  13. Who do you hire for this sort of stuff?
  14. What is this restricted operators license? What do you need to get one?
  15. The Iveco is still around 3000kg empty so doesn't leave enough of a 'legal' payload. Im doing a job next week where i'll be removing about 50 tons of timber, that's a lot of trips down to the yard, if I had a tractor and a 10ton dump trailer I could extract all the timber in just 5 runs.
  16. Why not a 50k box? All the tractors I was looking at had 40k boxes.
  17. I currently own an Iveco Daily 35C15 tipper and a L200 pickup which we use for the business but im always aware that the vehicles can creep over the 3500kg legal weight limit, even when they have little in them (I have a post Jan 97 license). I don't want all the hassle of the C license, operators license, tachographs, etc so ive been considering in investing in a Tractor, probably something around 100hp, like a John deere 6000 series, budget would be around £25k. The main advantage being that I can tow heavy loads without worrying about being pulled over by VOSA and can drive off road if necessary. What are your opinions on this? Is it worthwhile? Will it be practical or just a waste of money? What sort of tractor should I go for?
  18. I was thinking the exact same thing!
  19. Personally I would rather wait the month and get the extra £700!
  20. Ive been wearing them for about a year now, got a few tears from thorns, brambles, etc but other than that they are very good. Would recommend them too.
  21. 2 new chains!? you should be able to cut them without wrecking your chain, the bolts are only located at certain points on the sleeper, just avoid these and you'll be fine, although you made need to re-sharpen once or twice.
  22. I don't have much info on it, found this on the woodland trust site: The Woodland Trust | Tree profiles | Belvoir Park Forest oak and this: Old and ancient trees cast their magic at Belvoir | Belfast Hills Partnership
  23. This old oak tree is located in Belvoir forest park, Northern Ireland. It is believed to be one of the oldest oaks in Ireland.
  24. Got a phone call from one of my regular clients wanting me out asap as his cedar tree was about to go over. Got out and sure enough it was hanging on by a thread, I could hear the roots tearing with every gust of wind. I put a rope round it and used the truck to pull it clear of the phone lines and silver birch it was resting on then just felled it in one go. Back in a few days to dig out the stump.
  25. 9 blades! theres only 2 on my arborist 15-23
