  1. Does this mean at some point firewood merchants will have to rely more upon imported wood to meet demand, rather than mow every tree down in sight? As one firewood selling geezer from around london said, if you sell more than 17% of your total tree stock its more likely to be unsustainable as it would take longer to replace it. It would put prices up due to importing costs.. Maybe this could be a reason why this little island is more of a gas and coal burner than europe and the rest of the world, with their vast forests, which countries they are in are only seperated by a map drawn border, rather than the north sea
  2. Any idea on limited milage, and would you have to modify it e.g fit a P.T.O or something like that, as if you were likely to fit a seeder or something to it
  3. what price would you put on good seasoned logs that would fill 2/3s of a council recycling box? I've sold a few I reckon I'm under charging at a fiver a box full, but its my 15 year old cousin, so meh
  4. autotrader served me well for my ford ranger, it might be as good for tippers
  5. Them grippo / super splitters look good. Do you reckon it would be difficult to have a rack and pinion / dual flywheels made up and make one yourself? Maybe a long distance push biker with a modified pushbike do just as well if you didn't have a horse
  6. So fahrenheit, it looks like its taking off for you. I've asked all the farmers like you did, round where I live like you suggested, and they all said no. Either no room, which doesn't seam entirely true, or the barns have cows in them. I've dropped on a few ton of soft wood if I can get hold of the people sorting it, but its nothing special, not like the league you are in, it would be a branch in the forest compared to your swag.
  7. won't a ranger or a one of them old mitzi l200s? They are narrower than a transit and great if you have to go off road. One thind about the dinas and cabstars is if theres a bump to be had you'll take a battering. Where as the factory pickups have that nice long bonnet and nose you could wreck and replace.
  8. That looks fun. I used to make that kinda thing out of lego. It all worked.
  9. the council yard have a vermeer chipper, except that one has a conveyor. Often when chipping thin stuff, mainly if it was wet or conifer / really thin it would clog up around the blades and inside. I imagine it is doing the same in yours. If you send a good sized branch through it should clear it up and throws it all out. It worked for me
  10. Disclaimer: For educational and fun reading perposes only. I would not recommend doing this. Why not just make a big fire with all your little bits n bobs from splitting and sawing? Or maybe leave them to rot in a pile, away from your swag of firewood? Napalm is simple. There is the free flowing napalm, which is basically pumping fuel though a non return valve and there is sticky napalm, which stick. you can make the sticky type with fuel and toilet paper, and some sort of oil based soap shavings. Mush them all together reallllly dense in a container full of you desired fuel, by gradually filling up said full container with little strips of toilet paper and flakes. Shake and stir them well, and with a lid on the mixture, leave them to soak over night. In the morning drain off the fuel on the top, and in the bottom of the container should be a really thick gooey mixture. That is what you're after.
  11. someone I worked with at the council used to take a council owned big inch engine landy home to rossington near donny, and it got stripped, the entire thing in one night. Leaving only the bare chassis and this an that. As a rule it was safer to let staff take vehicles home, but not always, in this case. Now its been stopped and they get smashed in every so often.. Maybe wire up a little security camera or sensor alarm at night. You can get something from maplins that will wail if someone breaks the beam as they walk between the transmitter and the reflector
  12. What do you all reckon to this? Dump-Pro! Turn your Pickup into a Dumptruck in Minutes! Dump-Pro Website I reckon they don't import them, but it looks easy enough to make. A winch, some steel, some fittings, and a strenghtened factory pickup bed, job done after welding, and bolting it togther, no? Wether you'd get insurance cover for "home made tipper insert" is beyond me to say. Though I'd bet no, or some sky high fee.
  13. them south african bees and the like, its the male bee in the hive that makes them give birth to agressive young, and i think they give off agression hormones more freely, too, so to speak. They replaced a normal south african male bee with a not south african male bee and the bees were ok. wasps, and some times hornets, they are just plain nasty and if they won't be told its rolled up newspaper time. I love bumble bees though. Even though they are almost stupid. Bumble bee photos everyone!
  14. Can't you unclip your tailgates rope supports? I can with my ranger. That way it won't be a problem. These american firms think of everything. They appear much further along the line than here in many ways. If you wished, maybe you could fit a hydro pump to the liner and unload it that way when on the move. Or if its something heavy or you can't manage
  15. When I first did it I never wore them, just clothes etc. But that was in the height of summer. As time wore on I'd catch a chill any other time of the year and it'd do me chest in ( which is done in enough already). And no wearin wet suits aren't posh. Just where we went with scouts they were cheap, because we got consessions through our subs. righting them toppers didn't always work. I got pinned under the boat by my life jacket once or twice, I got a telling off for undoing it so I could get from under neath, and tying it to me wet suit with some string/harness type cord.
  16. I sailed on toppers they could be really fast at times. I remember sailing on keilder water and it going so fast over the waves in the force 5 wind it seamed to not touch the water. The wind changed direction and the sail changed sides faster than I could turn the boat round and it flipped over and capsized. the 2nd time it happened I righted the boat quick (full circle, using its momentum as it rolled over) enough to not get wet. They were happy days mostly, but I don't miss that cold water and wetsuits
  17. Haa I couldn't move or breath by the end it was so funny watching that. Thank u it saved me day
  18. I did sailing as a kid with scouts, I mostly loved it. Sometimes I did odd day out in them canadian canoes, all on lakes. Now-a days its canal boats. I've hired 3 so far, 2 for the day and one for 4 nights. The pace of life on one is almost like nothing else. That said you still get some old sod blasting horn signals along the Leeds Liverpool canal that he has right of way, which would have been fine if he could be heard over the noise of the engine. I never thought canal rage could exist now its mostly leisure boaters.
  19. Has anyone read the comments on the youtube video page for this one? Everyone says she deserved it, for filming to report them for more or less blocking the road for a few miles. Apparently hauliers are not supposed to do that in america. Some 2 lane rule etc.
  20. You've got 200 acres of woodland. Make 30 of it a free roaming motorbike area, and charge a little for it. You should get many turn up. The reason people like to ride motorbikes in woods and the like ( some abuse it, its true :[ ) is because they enjoy being there doing it and people have been doing it since engines turned over. I have met many doing it who don't abuse it as you'd notice whilst riding in them myself. Maybe buy a few gentle ish trail bikes from classic bike or ebay and hire them out.
  21. I noticed that myself. If it had a longer crank stroke it'd maybe do it better, but it'd mean maybe a bigger flywheel to make up for the effort needed. I wonder what it'd compare with modern gear in efficiency?
  22. Does this look as good as todays? I can't see much wrong with it except it having its limits ( just like anything, though), keep your self out of the way of the axe. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOs1E_GYpRU&feature=watch_response]YouTube - Antique Log Splitting Hit N Miss[/ame]
  23. That looks bloody brilliant. Why isn't there any sound in the video?
  24. Ah it sounds like an exciting day for you then, turned out well, getting away with it and all . It could have been worse, it could have been one of them jeeps that for no apparent reason rolls over, towing or not!
  25. Hi. Was it worth doing that nptc tractor driving course? I'm considering doing it myself, along with a trip to the dvla for the F bit for my license. I've been told you can drive some under a certain weight on a car license with L plates but I'm not sure thats true.
