  1. A firewood squad would work quite well. I imagine throwing a few split logs at people would put them off behaving badly - famous people, footballers, their wives, the press who hound and exploit them, bankers, insurance people, can't forget them. Governments too. To top it off you could charge a tenner a bag for it, collect them all up after and then sell them to your customers after. Maybe pay job seekers a fiver an hour / minimum wage to do the throwing
  2. You swine! I wish you were like, 5 miles away from doncaster. I'd give you some money after I'd have fill my ranger up
  3. I like the old transits. I've been driving them for my council for 5 years and they've been ok. Ievco are ok, but watch for bits falling off them, inside and out, also, they more or less use ford engines, iveco are just a bit more peppy. Them sprinters are good to drive but the chassis can rot quick, though. Bloke who does my ranger had a sprinter van in and it needed a lot of welding. I don't know anything about these new VW tippers, but I saw one the other day. VW are a good make and worth looking at, just thought I'd mention them .
  4. Has it ever occured to you that thinking your way isn't the only way? There is a way of indicating cattle have been vaccined. A spray marker on the animal, or a microchip proving it is vaccined simple, and fairly inexpensive. Given that my alfie cost next to nothing ( 25 quid, maybe ) at a vets. Micro chipping a cow should be no more expensive than a pet cat, if not cheaper. Some vets literally do it for next to nothing. Culling badgers won't solve it, as TB can survive in the soil you walk on, the water you drink, and in a hot summer the air you breath. Chile and argentinian farmers vaccined their cattle and they were fine after. Also, if you organised and arranged it amongst yourselves it would be cheaper than paying into some government body to do it for you.
  5. Thats right. Its an MS 250. 16 inch chain n bar
  6. Wrong. It is mostly a 1 hand saw operation when its bolted to that frame. The other hand steadies the wood, and move it along.
  7. Duhh. I'm left handed. Thats reason enough
  8. Hiya I've set my saw up on a sawhorse for left handed use ( on the left side of teh frame ) and after an hour of using it the exhaust gases in my face were too much when the wind died down. Now the muffler directs the gases out to the right, whats the easiest non destructive ( warranty voiding ) way of directing it to the left, or straight along the bar? So far I have come up with a fuel line pipe angled to the left. Or one you would fit on a model plane to deflect the oily exhaust away from the plane, but I'm not sure how much they'd effect power output. Any ideas?
  9. lately its been photography for me. Got a breeding pair of cameras. Film isn't getting any cheaper in the shops at 22 pounds for a 5 pack of 120 medium format film. The camera was £155, mamiya c220. I have a few more cameras too, but MF photography is mostly king. Theres green lanes or a pit top land in the ranger - used to go on the bike but tended to leave the track, and the police left me a little note at the door saying carry on and we'll cut your bike in half. So they gave me a 1 year probation ( get caught again in that time and..) . So its up and one day soon, time to start saving. Also around boxing day I bought a model plane, it runs on batteries and has a little camera on it. I'll upload a video soon.
  10. buying them in at £1.50 or whatever it was. Thats what he meant, right? Obviously I'd sell them for more..
  11. Horror story my arse, though I wondered about it meself for a time. If you leave it long enough to season, it will burn fine with a moisture content below 20%. The best way to achieve it is to cut and split it straight off and keep it under cover or in a polly tunnel all summer, with the ends tied open. People who leave 8ft + lengths un split in a wood uncovered for 2 years would find the ends dry out, but the sap in the middle of the lengths are still kinda wet. I found it myself cutting some I found in a wood up the road. it was registered off level it was so wet. Thats where your tar-soot problem starts. As for the nets, I buy empty nets 50 * 60 in a 100 pack for 19 quid odd and fill with me own wood. Price wise on what buy ready nets in I could not tell you. But around 1.50 sounds ok. Have you thought of doing it how I do it, and do a mixed bag?
  12. Now a land rover appreciation group is here, a land rover recovery club is in order - Obviously.
  13. where have you ever seen a decent 6t splitter for 300 quid?
  14. I don't think thats right somehow. On here someone linked to a page explaining size of log, and what sort of appliances can burn wood in a smoke controlled area, it listed every one. I don't remember it mentioning defra either. Kirklees is a backward county/area in some respects, and this is one of them. Of course you can deliver logs there, after all how else would the people with approved stoves get their fuel? Carrier pigeon? I dont see how delivering to someone with a non approved stove can incriminate you. That would be like suing the car shop for unknowingly selling the car to someone with no license.
  15. Or their shares would be scrapped
  16. I'm not really sure I believe that. After all if it was true they'd be going under or filing for bankruptsy protection..
  17. that protipper looks lovely but its for a double cab. Mines got the 7 n half ft bed
  18. A while ago, and then a few days ago I saw a post on here about people ( including meself ) wanting an option of a tipping pickup, with the standard bed and body work - mainly because its a daily dive as well as a work vehicle. Well last night I looked and looked and over the pond in america they have the asnwer. One involves the usual hydraulics, but another have an idea I came up with some time since involving wire ropes and a winch. Heres the websites Welcome to DumperDogg Dump Inserts Web Site and Technical Specifications - Dump-Pro Website I would go for the dump pro myself, though the powered up and down of dumperdogg would be useful sometimes. What do you all think?
  19. Be brown alert round here if I'm not careful
  20. buy an old ranger 1998 to 02. They are better than the newer ones with the down rated diff ratio - Much better for pulling fully loaded. Then stick the tub on ebay and go to tip master or somewhere. Auto trader is a good place for pickups, and for some reason, Harrogate and knaresborough are a good area to look.
  21. Yeah they sell that stuff at doncaster, I've mentioned it before. Does it have mildew on it?
  22. I've noticed this with my ms250. Maybe you are putting too much force on the saw for its power rating. And some advice would be, if you cut logs into a 10 inch length say, it might be better to cut along the length on the round diamter ( along he length ) rather than like you were milling it, as that would be a lot of effort for the chain, it won't last as long and may become softer with all the sustained heat. If you cut along the length of the log it will be like peeling layers off through to the centre and back out to the surface again - with hardly any effort and should be quicker, and save fuel
  23. Its true food prices are rising, but how many farmers are calling it a day due to farming not being viable? Though what many called non viable might be they can only afford the range rover, and the Massey and its fuel bill. The bulter and the game keeper are made redundant. I'd love them to try and get by on my income and then moan about having no money You'd think they'd get planting trees on half their fields
