  1. Don't worry Spud, I didn't do it, you might as well ask me to pilot a space shuttle as advance the timing.
  2. Here's one for you, largish oak, healthy crown, crash bang onto a garage type thing. It's one of a line that I am now quoting to take out. now a few years ago the chestnut trees behind were coppiced exposing the tree to new wind forces but there is some rot in the base. Hope pictures the right way up! Edit it's upside down but you get the idea.
  3. You're completely hatstand.
  4. Hey Jake I don't think he said he did not want to reduce it, just that he had been advised against it. (Wrongly IMO) It's my opinion that thinning as anything more than a temporary cosmetic fix is a waste of time. Sycamores as in this case will be back to full density in a very short period leaving the client feeling cheated and unhappy. ps. I like the line about "Inviting dappled natural shade etc" it speaks to me of elves cavorting as baby deer run startled from the approaching maidens etc. Anyway that's enough nonsense from me, got to look at a job. Mick:001_smile:
  5. Seriously? What on earth for? You want to go up and down a tree repeatedly? What exactly will you achieve doing it quickly or slowly? Have you seen the temperature? Are the pubs all shut or something:001_smile: Is it going to be for charity or something?
  6. Yeah sure, no biggy:001_smile: (and to Jules) Have a good day!
  7. It's a trick right?
  8. I don't think it's too unusual to flog the big saws without a bar, if the saw works it works.
  9. You Temptress!
  10. But (and i defer to the machine boys in this) I don't want to alter the machine too much or make too much noise. 5 mins with a cordless drill, my 201 is as good as my old 200, that's all I wanted and I got it.
  11. And I agree, leave it there, forget about it, I've got tons of the stuff, i'd be Lucky to get rid for nothing.
  12. I may be missing something but its not necessary to remove anything; 2 x 6mm holes in the outside of the exhaust, job done.
  13. Superwinch HL14 with radio remote, bullet proof, powerful, remorseless, but you'll need a hydraulic tank and loads of other gubbins fitted, not easy or cheap.
  14. But it's not over the phone is it? He posted pictures, gave all possible information and asked pertinent questions. and I'll be honest, I resent someone coming on and describing mine and other people's advice as "well meaning" what a bleeding liberty!:001_smile: if the tree was an obvious danger well yeah, but there were no real targets. oh btw I said retention should be possible, not fell it. finally when a homeowner provides pics of fungus they'll always get more than an ID won't they?
  15. What's the point of him asking the questions and providing detailed photos on a homeowners advice forum if he's only going to get the response "pay for a consultant" I think that's exactly what he's trying to avoid. It's not that complex really is it? Overgrown sycamore in corner of garden.
  16. Sooner or later you'll have to reduce it, thinning is a waste if time, within a growing season or so you'll have to do it again, all this blurb about dappled shade is hooey.
  17. Resistance is futile.
  18. nice idea, but that'll be under there for a long long time. Nice job though:001_smile:
  19. Many a true word said in jest.
  20. Here they are, we settled on him lending me a bloke for the day, as I said there's plenty of money in the job anyway so I'm not going to get all greedy.plus he will take everything too big for the TW. Ps really great work there 7th devil.
  21. I am actually going to look at them with the guy from the mill in an hour, I'll take some pics, I am sure they are deodars though.
  22. I cancelled tomorrow, 31degrees here and I cannot be arsed.
  23. Cheers for the info, it's deodar btw.
