  1. Funny you should say that, I filled mine with aspen then read on here somewhere it'll rot the fuel lines if you use petrol then aspen, was I wrong?
  2. Got an 880 on a big bar, comes out maybe 10 times a year for felling, impresses the clients! Will actually last a lifetime so good investment. Always run it to empty cos I never know when it's coming out next. 13 years old now, no problems.(the saw not me)
  3. Scalpit & leggit?
  4. I guess that's what makes them your clients, If they didn't they'd be someone else's.
  5. Is it heck! Mind you don't pull a muscle patting yourself on the back:001_smile:
  6. And presumably lose work.
  7. So he's supposed to feel guilty or up his price for the good of the industry?
  8. Why should he up his prices to be part of the solution? he makes good money, pays his suppliers, if other people cannot match it, that's their problem.
  9. Good for you! Tbf it was not aimed at you specifically, I should not have quoted you on my post.
  10. Ok, gotcha, Now this thread is always running in some form or other, and always the theme is the same, Someone or other who perceives themselves as a law abiding qualified, blah blah blah is bemoaning the lack of work on Gypsies/college leavers/gardeners who get above themselves or in a new twist unworthy clients who don't swoon with admiration when you shove a portfolio under their nose whilst eyeing up their trees. (None of these worthy people ever run an overloaded van or get a bloke from the pub to drag brash on a big day of course) Here's an idea instead of blaming these people (who have after all always been there) look at yourself, where am I going wrong? the rest of the world won't change you will have to. Anyway it's no big deal just something to think about.
  11. Oh my! Am I being accused of that most heinous of crimes to be "unprofessional" We've all had those clients who think we're great, write little notes on headed notepaper with the cheque saying what a wonderful job you did and soooo professional, your problem is you think it should be like that every day. I don't have to "demonstrate standards" or "promote my sector" I get a call look at the job, talk to them, give them a price and if they like it (and me) i do the job. works for me. Ps if your using hideous corporate speak like that with clients no wonder you're turning them off.
  12. I assume you mean me, actually deducing the point from your post was problematic, what was your point exactly?
  13. I think to use someone else's phrase; Your looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. There is no fault, what's the worst that can happen? A poorly trimmed tree. (Huck's phrase that second one) Tree surgery will always be unregulated and long may it continue. Who wants some bloke following you round telling you what to do and then you have to pay him for the privilege.
  14. Like has been said I've been doing the job 20odd years, never been asked. However handing over a portfolio with qualifications and memberships of various organizations is a bit much. of course they're not interested who would be? put it on the van and ads don't ram it down their throats. it's just trimming and felling trees not rocket science.
  15. That last part about the building trade and Eastern Europeans is very true, bricklayers etc had their pay slashed because more reasonable priced skilled workers came over, it could be worse!!!!
  16. I noticed that when clearing my parents house in Sussex a few years ago. At the tip in Billingshurst I was interrogated at length.I swear I had this conversation. Tip worker "where did this stuff come from?" Me "my father's house, he is moving into sheltered accommodation and I am clearing his house" Tip worker "and what relation is he to you?" You couldn't make it up!
  17. You're right of course! I was confusing the UK and here, where, if you're crafty, you can get rid of green waste at the tip by saying it came from you're own garden.
  18. True, but everyone and his dog does, so if you get a tug (very unlikely) say it's from your own garden.
  19. I remember we used to take the baffle out of 020ts and they flew, responsive and utterly brilliant, Christ they made a racket though!
  20. Self employed? Then short of tapping up his clients, do what you like.
  21. Sounds like you were we'll advised, good luck.
  22. Go to the thread "Modding my 201" (someone do the link, i'm nearly 50 you know)
  23. Quite, plus the visceral pleasure of using something that cuts so brilliantly God himself looks down and smiles.
  24. Cheers, you engineer sorts, always looking for tidy solutions, 30 secs with a drill=more power, that's my sort of tuning!
