  3. I think i would agree with populus alba * am using a book as i am new to this but its fun when one of these comes up* "fruit: small green capsules borne in catkins 4in (10cm) long opening to release tiny seeds held in white cotton wool like hairs." i dont think it will be in fruit but the cotton wool like hairs look right. please correct me if i am wrong
  4. dont worry about the screaming 9 week old its the screaming 19 yr olds that are the problem
  5. hi sandy i'm new to arb my self i have ben working for a little over 2 months now its a great thing to do. like yaffle said there are some small niggles but its worth it in the long run. good luck to you and hope all goes well
  6. i used to work as anoutdoor instructor for the last 4years then helped a tree surgeon who needed to do work on our site and anytime he came back i helped. nows he is a good friend and i started with a company in suffolk. i am hoping to emulate some of the guys higher up the posts with a company of my own one day *fingers crossed.

  9. in reply to harmony arb this will sound like a silly question but how do i find a correspondence course? and how many units were there? what were the units and what is the practical side of things? for the cert in arb and cheers to all that have posted
  10. how long the the cert in arb take to complete? and what experience did you have going in to it? i'm not looking to do a course tomorrow just want a plan to study so that i.e.5 years go by and i think s**t where did they just go?
  11. hello all at arbtalk i am considering doing some studying and not sure between a uni/college course full time or RFS qualifications so i would like to hear peoples views and opinons on the RFS qualifications if you have completed them or are in the middle of finishing them. yours ian c
  12. it is better to replace the bridge than hit the floor via a possible multitude of branches and other items. stay safe always
  13. its not stein but i have a samurai and it does a good job i've handled a silky as well. the silky is better but the samurai does a good job and they are not that expensive
  14. yeah it was a good day and a winch would of been good but we had limited access and limited choices so you got the lacky to do it but i had fun except for when i got stuck *for a moment
  15. if you want a landy look at modsales or something like that its ex mod stuff they sell and when the mod service a landy they do it right so should be good. cant remeber the website but look on google and youll find it
  16. i think i have just found the sloution. i havent done extensive research but this is what i was thinking of icom hand held radio Icom IC-4088SR - 2 Way Radio Shop icom headphone and microphone 2 Way Radio Shop hope this helps
  17. my friend has been able to put headphones into his ear defenders. my idea is to have flat profile earphones. the lead running down the inside of your t-shirt and the radio on the back of the harness. the talk button and mic are the bits i'm not sure of. downsides i can see are saw dust and things catching on the radio. long wire coming out of tshirt catching on things and the problem of microphone and talk button.
  18. no problems here all day * been popping in and out of arb talk all day as i have broken myself and off work for a bit.
  19. i'm intrested depending on when it is * current broken ankle so might not be strong enough by the time this happens* fingers crossed
  20. i can do 2 60m climbing ropes in less than 15 minutes. and besides a weekly thing will also show up any knicks or bad bits in the rope because your running your hands along it.
  21. flake the rope out to one side of you and then pull the rope through your hand holding it tight *yes your hand will get warm* pull at a reasonable pace but dont pull it fast. as you get to the end of your rope it should be getting the twists out because you will see it twisting up and winding around when you get to the end. hope this helps and makes sense to keep twists from occuring repeat this once a week should take 5 mins
  22. yep that does count good thinking sloth
  23. the thought occured to me that the rescuer has to decide if it is safe enough for them to enter the tree and perform the rescue. also if the rescuer can be belayed by someone on the ground then would that help as if they fell unconsious they could be lowered to the ground *if it was completley clear beneath them.
  24. to mick i would love to but have got plans for tomorrow and wouldnt last long in the chilli side of things anyway. to eggsar stowmarket oh and apologies to all for the confusion earlier
