  1. yeah sorry about that i was up there when i set this up but forgot to change it when i moved:001_cool:
  2. is that bury st edmunds or a differenet bury?
  3. get a groundie to go in the water with shorts on and maybey wetsuit boots *spare change of clothes in the van* and a decent pruning hand saw. cut all that he can and a rope for people to drag it out. the more he takes off the lighter it will become and it will be easier to pull out and more it will float bring the limbs that were under the surface to the top. this takes out the saw and chance of oil/fuel contamination and slipping with a chain saw. and yes i have done this before and was the person in the water.
  4. hello guys and gals of arb talk i am new to the tree side of things working as a groundie for a company. i used to be a outdoor instructor specilasing in climbing but i was wondering where could i go to get practice for tree climbing. i know i wont be climbing for a while at work because i am just starting as a groundie. but if i am able to practice it would hopefully help me later on. yours dm p.s. if this a silly idea/wrong thread please say/move it thanks again
  5. sylvestris. some one once told me that a name for a dog should be two sylables *pretty sure i spelt that wrong. as in car-ly/ sand-ey. so that when they are learning the difference between names and commands so maybey not sylvestris but sylvester.
  6. most walking boots now days are of a good standard. but prices do seem to of risen in the past 2-3 years. my thoughts are do you want leather or fabric above the "knobbly bit om your ankle" or below but the main thing is go in to a reptible outdoor shop and try on lots and lots of pairs as some are better for wide feet/thin feet. and be careful of the sales assistant try to sell you addons:thumbdown:. p.s. i've had a pair of meindel's for 5 years now still totally waterproof and doing well:thumbup:. looking old but not showing it
  7. hello there no dont scarper. i am completley new to this i have got myself a job as a trainee groundsman. *i start tomorrow and nervous but excitied. i have never handled a chain saw before and have only helped drag fallen limbs out of the way. something some one told me if you dont know ask if you dont understand the answer ask again. good luck safe cutting and hope all goes well:thumbup:

  21. hello all at arbtalk i am sure this topic has come up manytimes before but i would like to ask the people their opnion. i am currently an outdoor instructor and have halped with a local tree surgeon a few times mainly humping and dumping wood but watching what he is doing as well. :confused1:i would like to get in to arb but dont know what route to choose. 1. find a firm and work from the ground up and gain practical experience in the real world *my prefered choice* 2. an intensive college course to gain my tickets and some experience. will the 2nd one help me get a job as i will have tickets and some experience or will the 1st be the better option and what are the chances of it happening. i am going too be based in norfolk by the looks of it. i am currently in the lakedistrict on a seasonal contract. many thanks in advance ian c *a newbie
