  1. usually pot grown isn't it Not that we plant it much
  2. can honestly say I've never greased the roller bearing in nearly 500 hours. Have I been doing something wrong- not even sure where the nipple is. Oh well- better check the manual or have a word with the saturday refresher and see if he has been doing it:blushing:
  3. My insurance wanted details of all employees tickets- chainsaw and others plus pass dates Now if we have an accident I'm sure they will investigate whether we were telling the truth. Thats for us - a company that has never had a public or employee claim in 30 years. Touch wood
  4. depends whether you were attempting to kill them surely:biggrin:
  5. I am led to believe by training providers that tickets are required for chainsaw/pesticide provided you are paid in cash or kind and that insurers will not pay out if tickets not obtained - that includes me as well as employees. Now- are you saying they are lying- and if that is the case why are we all running around like headless chickens. Is it just duty of care or is it just not wanting to put guys you work with in situations they can't handle Who can we ask to find out the truth of this
  6. I'm the same When busy I don't want customers to phone at any time When slack I'll give them the time of day at any time:001_smile:
  7. so far have found asda ones ok and at £3 can't be beat
  8. We did some grass cutting for a travellers site a few years ago and they paid double what we quoted so don't believe all the hype
  9. Thats just concerned public Give them your card Start talking to them and usually ends up a bit frustrating
  10. This from the guy who only believes in burning seasoned wood. Needs must maybe:001_smile:
  11. I find it amazing how few people actually ask to see your insurance- One in 30 years other than big contracts. Customers just don't understand how vulnerable this leaves them
  12. I'm paying a plasterer and his mate £250 for a days work- they are quick though and good. You'll never get that for a few years in tree work and when you do- you'll be too old to work hard enough- (not always mind)
  13. well- an update- after sending it back to jonesie for a fix We've used it twice since and today we maintained it and guess what- chewed up washers and metal flakes on the needle bearing. What can I say I now will be sending it back for a refund as not fit for purpose
  14. fasciation you'll see it a lot now It's facinating
  15. This may be the wrong place to ask Most tree surgeons with log burners burn their own wood and don't really count. In fact probably keep the house much hotter than necessary. I know we do. It's a case of burning less when guests drop by I'm looking at my log pile and hoping it stays cold enough long enough to get through it all by spring so I can have my patio back:biggrin:
  16. So- you have a decent chipper/series of saws/new climbing gear/=all OK But get a flash truck and you get 'noticed'. Always has been the way. You're expected to buy a 3 year old one and tell everyone you got it for 3K- that way they think you are astute and they will be paying you less for your wisdom in buying decisions. The only way to buy a new truck is to buy it for your staff:biggrin:
  17. you are giving him over 10% discount Taking out your costs- labour/fuel/wear & tear/ delivery/maybe the cost of the wood in the first place. How much is this discount compared to your actual profit for selling the product. I guess it's nearly all of it.
  18. And ever so vain Keep a mirror with them
  19. Know what you mean but No he's named names and they actually are (though not climbing) -they're the bosses
  20. when people say 1-2 do they mean 3 when people say 2-3 do they mean 4 Yound lad with us starting out in climbing says all tree surgeons are p*ss heads. Not my experience but the ones he meets round town appear to be Oh... and coke heads too(some of them)
  21. Yep we reported this a few months ago Jonesie fixed it under warranty but Hope is isn't a recurring problem as theres a business cost to all repair shop issues Nice saw though- loads of power I'm thinking if it happens again then it's a 'not fit for purpose' job and I'll be expecting a refund or PX. Don't want saws to be a problem on top of all the usual
  22. About 4 inches fell saturday night and most is still here as temperatures hovering either side of zero
  23. Obviously the above post makes me feel saddened I need to start enforcing RA rigorously not to prevent insurance claims but to prevent accidents. Point taken
  24. I'll do that next time But I think it's different companies every time I Know it's not exactly what the OP was on about and I will explain. Mainly I feel it's (no win)the reason we all have this risk assessment mentality forced upon us now. Without no win no fee we wouldn't have the stress of justifying what we do Once upon a time (maybe 10 years ago)we just got on with it And this H&S mentality wouldn't be giving us these headaches/costs. I'm just emphasising the reasons why this crap happens on site. - to prevent the firm getting into a court situation Whenever I hear about risk assessment my blood starts to boil. I hasten to add I meekly comply though which is even more annoying
