  1. Thing is with laurels- they survive in spite of you. I wouldn't worry with lots of soil improvers or anything. We've planted on top of rubble and they still get away. The root system looks great. in fact better than you get on the nursery sometimes. Just dig a trench and slot them in roughly the same height they were grown at. Bit of water to stabilise. Refill trench. Mulch if you want to to reduce weeds for next year and wait. If its a dry spring, they may lose a few leaves though giving more water will put that right. IMO cutting them back would be a mistake.
  2. Just out of interest- has anyone been involved in reducing hedges to comply with our English law. Just mention it because it would seem we all know about the law but who actually uses it. Is it not a case of people just behaving a bit more neighbourly and not using hedges in a bullying way. The law is there for extreme circumstances maybe.
  3. You picked up a leaf and a twig but didn't see the tree. Thats some doing. My vote is for sweet chestnut.
  4. I find it odd that someone selling something like this doesn't include more pictures.
  5. east enders/ corry/ emerdale Whatever else???
  6. he's not holding the saw so I guess it's OK
  7. love the 4 mix rubbish = not a chance. Hated them from day 1 ditch it 4 what is the big question:001_huh: Chipper fine thanks-top job- still need a bearing cover though
  8. Shhhh...Like churchyard mould or something:001_smile:
  9. Thanks- is that a vent in the fuel cap? I haven't worked on these engines yet.
  10. Keith Richards autobiography/biography- whatever. Took some getting into but interesting nonetheless.
  11. Well- turns out today we really need a solution to a longstanding issue. We have found that when the engines roll filter down when travelling that the filter floods and starting is difficult/impossible due to the filter element getting soaked in fuel. Has anyone found a solution other than replacing and drying out the wet one. This Stihl engine is a pile of poo. This issue eclipses the noise issue though. Much appreciate any help as the power is hard to beat and we have tried Echo but they were too delicate for us to use for general trimming jobs.
  12. The other day I was asked for 6inch logs for a 5Kw burner. I couldn't believe it. average of 3 split logs in that baby. How it delivers 5Kw is !*/Q%.......................beyond me.
  13. anyone able to compare these to the metal mulching blades. I'm sure they do a similar job and much safer IMO
  14. Sure you didn't hit him. Wait till the insurance change the story:001_smile:
  15. 2 batteries a day Thats fantastic I'd use 2 DeWalt 18v batteries to cut up a pallet with a circular saw so thats some going.
  16. OK so it's not that widespread. They restored factory settings today and it seems to be behaving itself for the now. I've just got so far behind in smart phone techno. feeling like a Luddite. It's a bit much for a 4week old phone though. Pete- try amazon- very cheap and loads of options!!
  17. Anyone else have problems with this phone. It seems to be eating memory so no updates/apps etc will download onto it. 2 weeks old and it's become necessary to phone tech support. No help. Seems to be an issue with this phone. I should have bought an i phone.
  18. not always we bought a 200T side cover from our local dealer for £18 eBay wanted £30 so don't just assume they will be the one stop shop- though it gives retail a bit of serious competition. I think dealers, once they know you will be returning regularly now seem to want to be more price competitive so in that respect eBay have been good for us.
  19. eBay is above the law You can buy number plates (vehicle) without V5 or licence- what is the point of forcing (with huge fines to any not complying) genuine dealers/ car parts businesses to collect this data when the crims are just going to eBay.
  20. Can't think where Massaria came from in my head then. Bit of a tragedy though.
  21. Thousands of Plane trees are being felled on the Canal du Midi- I think thats the one. Southern France leading to Carcasonne according to one of my customers who went there for a holiday. Encouraged by boaters tying up around the trees and boats damaging the roots spread or encouraged I think by the water.
  22. Personally I want every other tree company to do well/ have easy lives and happy staff. This means they won't drop their rates and I'll be competing against better prices. Be nice if we could all agree prices like the big 6 energy companies. Back to the OP There is money in tree work but you've got to be organised and prepared to work hard when needed. This is a difficult question to ask a bunch of tree surgeons as the ones who are making the money will be keeping quiet.
  23. Great shot from swamploggers Whens the new series
  24. We haven't had any terms and conditions for 30 years so I'm not sure how necessary they are.
