  1. I'm probably going to change todays job from a big Willow reduction to a couple of small take downs.
  2. About an inch here so far.
  3. Very nice job BA. Bet that one cost them more than £200.
  4. Yes, have been for a number of years now although I haven't yet renewed for 2013 - better get on and do that. Thinking about the huge number of thefts already this year, is there anything that the AA could do to bring this into the spotlight? The police don't seem interested in doing anything other the dishing out crime report numbers but will have to act if there is political/public pressure. There must have been a dozen robberies posted on Arbtalk and we're not even two weeks into the year. Considering probably not all thefts are posted and that Arbtalk only represents a small percentage of GB's tree surgeons, the actual number of crimes and cost to the industry must be staggering!
  5. I always thought that it was supposed to be bad internet etiquette to comment on peoples spelling but what Alex was referring to was "nightmare" and maybe a few other grammatical errors. Don't worry about it, everyone knows what you meant. I would at least get your chainsaw ticket otherwise your only good for dragging. Also ask firms if you can do a short spell of voluntary work for them. They may well keep you on afterwards if they like you.
  6. My 346XP. May change when I get a ported 357.
  7. It was Monday night dad got done. Wonder if it was the same scum - Fulbourn's only about 10 mile from Royston. Think his break in was around 7 or 8pm. Seems like they were only after top brand gear as they left an Oleo saw that wasn't even locked in the cabinet.
  8. Servicing one of my old 200T to give to Dad to replace one of his nicked ones. I think that the carb filter was overdue for a clean.
  9. Ditto (April 98). I wasn't aware of the change otherwise I would have got off the motorbike sooner.
  10. Sorry to hear that. Seems like they were out in force last night. My dad's lock up was cleared out last night. Not got all the details but saws that I know are missing are: 5x 200T MS260 MS261 2x 044 MS441 064 Plus a couple of hedgecutters and couple of hand held blowers. From Fulbourn near Cambridge.
  11. Yeah, good foundation knowledge in soils, biology, pests & diseases, ident, arb practices, etc. It should be a must for any tree surgeon. Can be a challenging course if you have not had much pria experience. Try to keep up with the homework, use the library and you'll breeze it. All the best Ed
  12. RFS level2? I did it there in 2009. A good course.
  13. How about keeping the fun going and having a raffle winners swop-shop? Non winners could also partake with anything they have kicking around.
  14. Policies that benefit yourself and a few for others - your'll fit in perfect as a politician
  15. Yeah, i was half expecting to win the book back
  16. cheers Dan - just missed that zigzag
  17. Cool, I think that I may have won something. Are these what Michael Hutchence used. don't know whether I want to risk it personally.
  18. Go on then, i'll have a go. Couldn't get the ending right thou.
  19. Bigpinus.
  20. Didn't get a holiday in 2012, apart from a couple of nights in north Norfolk. So in 2013 i'm going to go see the giant Sequoia's in California. Been wanting to go for years.
  21. Thankfully been out of the accountancy game for a number of years now but this is how i remember it. As said, the full cost of the chipper will be put though your accounts as a fixed asset and devalued over a number of years. As it will almost certainly have some resale value when disposed off i would suggest either 20 or 25% reducing balance method (ie, yr1 - 20% of £5500, yr2 - 20% of the remaining £4400, yr3 - 20% of the remaining £3520, and so on). Choose the method/% that will most accurately reflect the market value of the machine throughout it's life. It won't change the amount of tax allowance you will get on the purchase as this is done a different way by HMRC for the tax return. To make it nice and simple, the inland revenue keep changing the capital allowance so you will have to check their website to see what it is for the 11/12 tax year. Regarding the loan, as long as it was 100% for the chipper then you can claim the interest on the loan as a business expense. Hope this has helped but know it's probably just confused you. That's why people use accountants. Self assessment tax returns! - yeah, right.
  22. http://www.thomascarving.co.uk
  23. Nice. This is the 30 minute carved owl that i bought at the APF - done by Harry Thomas. I wish I could of bought his main piece, his wolf was amazing!
  24. I was the same as you until this year. There's now loads of options- wench, spider jack, lock jack, zigzag (in Feb13), numerous hitch systems - possibly including an O-rig system. Its mind boggling. Best thing is to get to a rec climb and try other peoples and get ideas from them about which ropes to use as this makes a lot of difference. What ever you decide to go for, take it steady but persist. Get a good week of climbing on it and you won't look back. I currently climb on a hitch using the distel. Preordered the Zig zag and would like to try out SRT again with the wrench. Where abouts are you?
