  1. All these people around Cambridge and I never knew. If we can't find some nice biggies, theres some half decent Oaks very close to me that I practiced in when starting off. I'd probably be looking at early March - MAY have warmed a bit by ten. I may have had some time on the zigzag by then.
  2. A small Plane reduction that I did last summer. Only just downloaded the photos off my phone. No often I remember to do before and after pics. .
  3. As said Duxford H&S is the only place close to Cambridge but they don't have much on display. Landmark Trading at Stamford is alright but to see it all, either a trip to FR Jones or wait for the trade shows to start. Chilli, I guess from SG8 that your somewhere near Royston. Where abouts are you Oak Oracle? I'm at Bar Hill. A Cambs rec climb will have to be sorted soon.
  4. Just looked it up - £1500+vat for a new 13hp stump grinder seems incredibly cheap. Theres generally a good reason why the other better known brands charge more than double that, but I hope it proves me wrong. At least it doesn't need to do many stumps to have paid for itself.
  5. Ok, ok - £50, dog biscuits, some cider and a sewing kit. You drive a hard bargain!
  6. £50 and some dog biscuits.
  7. When I prune fruit trees In a garden i'd do the usual reshaping, and if possible, to train it as a fairly low crown. Take any dead and crossing branches out and thin out to open the crown to allow light and air to circulate. I would also prune out an amount of buds from each branch. IMO this produces a smaller but better crop. I would expect a commercial orchard would somehow be pruned differently as they would want to maximise the fruit crop.
  8. I agree. I think that My TCF trailer cost £750 but I think the price has increased since then.
  9. no, I just hooked it to the truck to test it out - I'd just taken delivery of it. I think that the firm I bought it from does do road legal versions thou.
  10. looks similar to mine, but a bit better. just wondering the other day what the max speed of an ArbTrolly should be. Must have got mine up to 30mph.
  11. Some nice pictures there Matt. Good on you for helping those in need.

    Jokes???

Man going into Tesco and orders a cheeseburger. Lady behind the counter asks "do you want anything on it?" Man replies "yeah, i'll have £5 each way"
  13. Is that a 14" bar? I certainly wouldn't go any bigger than that.
  14. That would all depend on how bad the rot in the trunk is. If it's not too bad and you say the crown is heathy hen I would leave be until you see the crown deteriorating.
  15. Crossed wires Rob, I was referring to post 11.
  16. That is a form of canker - commonly called Bleeding Canker and that one is more serious. Lots of it about and it generally does kill the tree although it does sometimes take many years.
  17. Yeah, i have seen that and don't want to see it again.
  18. Looks likes a canker. Probably won't kill the tree if it doesn't girdle the whole trunk.
  19. Photo hasn't worked on my ipad.
  20. Looks like I may miss seeing the Maiden again - website says not doing day tickets.
  21. Has to be the Saturday for me - iron maiden, Motorhead, Alice in chains.
  22. OMTC, I Have huge respect for you and your fantastic postings in Favourite TV Girl but i've seen quite a few posts in the past about legal ramifications with regards to cable bracing and "admitting a fault with the tree" and it really winds me up. I would much prefer to cable and retain a tree (with possibly a reduction, if needed) than to fell. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever been prosecuted for a failed cabled tree.

    L200 advice

Do you also have a Transit Fenland Arb? I often see a tree surgery truck parked in a driveway when i've been passing through Ramsey Heights.
  24. Sorry James, I agree with Steve.
  25. Chains arrived just as I was packaging the book. Many thanks Andrew. And thank you Steve - good job.
