  1. Lovely work..... do you sell it?
  2. my innosense showed up there!
  3. take it easy button..... Hard hat is essential in treework, i too cringe and judder when i see people just using muffs and safety glasses. I've taken a pretty big hit on the helmet before and from what i can remember i was pretty much out cold. Use your loaf....wear a lid!!
  4. I really hate fighting, it makes me feel sick......but in this instance i was so glad to see that little bast#rd wobbling when he got smacked down. Bet he wasn't expecting that!
  5. Skyhuck - couldn't agree more.... I try to touch up chains rather than change them all the time, only the odd check of the guidebar and cleaning the sawdust and oily gunk out of the side casing and socket.
  6. would love to.....especially alaska or scandanavia, but too many ties at the moment and building a succesful business in these economic times is more important to me
  7. im not posting any pics of my kit if this is the reaction!! Yeah the chipper could do with a bloody good pressure washing...but surely the point of the thread was to highlight that the chasis could go on YOUR chipper so keep an eye out for rust, cracks, stresses, wear and tear. I'd rather people kept on posting these incidents on arbtalk than keeping it under wraps for fear of getting a load of jip!
  8. with all the rules and regs flying around in arb....sometimes being oblivious seems easier! - but im trying to stay up to date in an attempt to keep my back covered!!
  9. fair play to them if they are selling them for that...might put my prices up!!!!!!
  10. get your workforce to sharpen a few each in the afternoon if you finish work a bit early!! Might take a few sessions but it will get them done - and considering you have allready paid them for the day... cheap too!!
  11. "I got as far as reaching under the bed then got sidetracked by a big stash of old porn".... HaHa...that cracked me up!!
  12. Matt these pics are stunning! Thanks for posting them - i wish i made the effort to photograph all the wierd and wonderful things i see every day at work - until them i shall enjoy yours.... cheers mate
  13. I strongly believe that this should be free to tree surgeons and arb companies..... pdf file would cost nothing to produce and email out to people.
  14. Lovely work cracker - can't wait to see the updated pics of that structure you were making!
  15. Tachyon is a lovely rope - i've got two..... As a rock climber as well as an arb i'm allways looking out for a very supple rope which feels nice in the hand and is easy to tie knots with (thats the climbing influence) and the Tachyon fits the bill perfectly! Ive got both orange and green....both of which are hi viz so you can easily keep an eye on them when climbing and from the ground (groundies eye view!) They are quite prone to 'milking' if they are used from both ends simultaneously but i rarely climb with both ends anyhow. I use YAL101 - Yale Silverstreak Cool Accessory Cord for my prussik which seems to be a good match, but i too am looking to join the 21st century and get a mechanical climbing device to go with this rope at some point.

Looks good that mate - have fun with it!
  17. Yeah i had a peek at their website.... they look very good actually. I just feel the need to keep learning more and more about this subject - after all arb is constantly changing and adapting and its essential to keep pace with it - not just with knowledge but with an up to date collection of tickets and quals. Just need to try and find an institution near-by to teach me!!
  18. I will get on to google and see what i can find! Just thought it would be great to give them somewhere to nest close by, to hopefully encourage them and as a result get to see them more regularly! There are scores of green woodpeckers (the inspiration for my user name....'yaffle'!) living in the pines near by, and put a box up for them and they love it. Hopefully i might get a few takers from the megascops!!
  19. Nick, i wanted to do it at Kingston Maurward (about 25 miles away from me), but they can't get enough interest to justify running the course - real shame, as i allways really enjoyed doing my quals there. Just hoping i can find somewhere reasonably close to do it as it could be a real time consuming effort otherwise (like you im trying to run my own business at the same time!). I really want the qual though so hopefully i will sort something out in the end!
  20. There are quite a few owls around living around my place (mainly screech owls), and i was considering putting up a nesting box for them. The tree i had in mind is a large mature Scarlet Oak set fairly secluded at the bottom of the garden.... my question is.... what size should the box be, and should there be any specific requirements, as i want to make it myself? I'm thinking they should be quite large but if any one has any ideas on this it would be much appreciated! Cheers, Pete
  21. I would like to do my level 4, but i'm struggling to find a course running down here in deepest Dorset!
  22. clearly not a ounce of common sense between them!! But why were they there in the first place... what were the council playing at
  23. Im a golfer, as yes i do spend half my time wondering round the course staring at the trees.....that may be where im going wrong - more concentration needed!!
  24. Think you may have to put a patent on that idea!! Quality job
  25. this has cheered me up no end!! top stuff
