  1. When i've been coming back from a job i generally try and find a safe place to pull in if i have more than 10 cars behind me. The best i've ever had was 47 and that was only because there was no safe spot to pull in (not even a wide gateway or farm entrance). I put my hand up to apologise and most of the drivers tooted and thanked me back. Felt really bad as at the back of the que was a funeral procession.
  2. One of my many stomping/fungi grounds around Blandford. Off out tomorrow on a fung hunt around Blandford Forest.
  3. Whilst out beating i got some pictures of the beech trees that are tucked away far from public eyes. There are some beauties in there that have been left to their own devices.
  4. Whilst digging a hole for a gate post i hit a metal object. I dug around it with my hands and found it was domed with a "nipple" on the end. We made the hole wider to investigate further and found it was a WW2 bomb. Was scared us was when bomb disposal arrived and detonated it, they informed us that is was ready to go off and was a 2,500lb high explosive parachute bomb. Needless to say my colleague and i needed new underwear after being told that.
  5. Next planned laning adventure will be around Salisbury. The army are training around Imber (German Village/ Chitterne Down) but still got a few good lanes to do up on the plain. All being well we shall be doing the full length of Old Shaftesbury Drove (even past the racecourse). And the full length of the Ox Drove. Not for people who are scared of getting scratches in their vehicles. Nearer the time i shall give detail of location and time to meet. Comment if interested.
  6. Not road work but last winter we were doing tree work on a section of already opened trailway. Because of the size of the trees we were felling we had both vans fully articulated between the bank so nothing could get past. We had signs saying "Trailway closed. Please use/find alternative route" as well as tree felling signs and tape across the path. This lady on her horse decided to jump our L200 (Don't ask me how) and proceded to gallop through the work site. She was giving us abuse as she went through so on her return journey my boss stopped her and told her not to be so damn stupid and to read the signs. Her excuse was the horse needed a good gallop along the trailway with a couple of jumps thrown in. She phoned the head of the dept stating that we didn't have correct signage. We sent pictures to the head and she very quickly retracted her statement when we said we would report her for using a public right of way as a gallop run and criminal damage for the holes her horse had been leaving in the surface.
  7. Weve got a 10 plate and a 61 plate ranger. Cant fault them on anything. A few minor tweaks on the 10 plates fan system (would only work on 4) but other than that they will happily tow 3 tons of tractor and trailer around. As will our 56 plate L200.
  8. That sounds very cheap. The cheapest ive seen it in my area is £350 for 5 hours. I would go for it as it sounds like a top venue. Its good fun as well. I did it with a load of mates on a stag do with the groom dressed as the stig and we all kept spinning him round. Was great fun.
  9. Will be out this weekend at Blandford Forest/Bonsley Common. The fungi gods are shining upon us.
  10. I think you can get hedge cutter attachments for the husky saws. I was using a MS260 with one the other day with no problems.
  11. Had a stile and sleeper bridge to replace today. The fields we had to drive across were a little soft to say the least but we managed to get to the site.
  12. No i cant stand eating them. I'm just adding to my fungi ID bank. Got a seperate hard drive for my photos.
  13. I went out with my dad and the dogs today to one of the many local Iron Age hillforts. It has a few well known local landmarks right next to it. The two most famous being Beechy Avenue (B3092) which used to be the drive to Kingston Lacy House and the WW2 airfield at Windy Corner, Hogstock. Badbury Rings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia RAF Tarrant Rushton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Despite the rain and the mild weather there was a poor show of fungi. I got a few shots of what was about but next time i shall go into the ancient oak woodland that is just off the site. I shall have a stab at IDing the fungi. Pic 1 - Badbury Rings Pic 2 - Looking towards Tarrant Rushton Airfield Pic 3 - Beechy Avenue Pics 4,5,6 - Melanoleuca polioleuca Pics 7,8 - Coprinus sp Pics 9,10,11,12 - Lycoperdon sp? Pics 13,14 - ? All fungi were growing on chalk grassland grazed by sheep.
  14. I'm a celebrity has started tonight too. Cant stand anything reality tv related. Only really watch documentaries and sports. And the occasional bit of Family Guy and Simpsons.
  15. Well said:thumbup: How is it that we get a rollocking for swearing yet mods get off scott free?
  16. We had a two minute silence in the middle of the main drive on Friday. Even the birds stopped flying and making noise. The keeper called stop at 5 to then blew the hunting horn at 11. I've got a few friends serving in Afghan at the moment and lost 2 good friends during the fighting.
  17. Not a massive fan of Dubstep but rather like this track by a new comer called Skillrex [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cXDgFwE13g&feature=related]First Of The Year (Equinox) - Skrillex [OFFICIAL] - YouTube[/ame] [ame] [/ame]
  18. We have noticed that our current trailer for dragging the tractor round bottoms out on almost everything (even low speed bumps). Can you get suspension lift kits for trailers so we can attach higher tyres to stop it bottoming out at the ramp end and occasionally at the tow hitch?
  19. Wil be doing that tomorrow morning as its going to be a wet morning and have a nice dry workshop complete with airline so i can blast any excess water out and give it a really good blow through. Will remove the tank and drain it completely. Will flush the chain oil tank while i'm at it.
  20. Hopefully this link will work BBC News - Red Arrows pilot killed in incident at RAF Scampton
  21. I shall be stripping it completely tomorrow. If i manage to move the piston by hand so the inlet to the crank case is open and let the water drain out that way. Would that be sufficiently empty then put it on a hot radiator for 48 hours to dry out? It is a 1993 saw so if it is a total loss then no biggie as we can buy a new one.
  22. I have a part time job as a beat keeper on a couple of small farm shoots. My parents buy me food but i pay for my own bills.
