  1. First pic is of Bramble. He was only 5 years old and died last thursday from a heart attack. He still had plenty of fight in him but his body just let go. The rest of the pics are of my three remaining dogs (Floyd, Charlie and Bracken)
  2. Ye got hit by a Fallow buck. Few broken ribs n nacked shoulder but all healed now. Ribs are still a bit sore but was shooting yesterday with my bad shoulder with no problems.
  3. He had pneumonia during the summer and has never really recovered from it. He was hovering around the 20kg mark but should have been nearer 30-35kg. We think his heart wasnt strong enough and eventually let out last thursday night.
  4. I've had no internet or phone for two weeks hence why i havent been on. Since my time of not being on here i lost one of my spaniels (Bramble, 5 years old:thumbdown: ) Still shocked that he died so suddenly especially when he was gaining weight.
  5. Highest wind speed recorded (so far) 135 mph in Cairngorm National Park. Couldn't beleive it when i heard the police telling people not to travel unless it is an emergency because of the wind.
  6. Check out the size of this bad boy. It borders a commercial shoot that i beat on. We have a bird called "Bandit" which is a Reeves x Common pheasant. I think this maybe Bandits twin. I took the picture about 100 metres away with my camera on full zoom (hence pixelation).
  7. Looks to be a nasty batch of wind coming in. Should keep people on the borders busy for a lil while:thumbup: Met Office: UK: severe weather warnings
  8. BBC Four - After Life: The Strange Science of Decay
  9. Started the work van this morning ready for my colleagues and this came on. I couldnt resist i had to turn it up. Got some very funny looks from the district council workers. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emGri7i8Y2Y&feature=relmfu]Sum 41 - In Too Deep - YouTube[/ame]
  10. Our monster we got going today. Burning Goat Willow which i thought was the worst thing to burn.
  11. What do you recon it was that caused it to fail at the base? No fbs of HF and in a sheltered locaation so couldnt have been wind. Was still alive too.
  12. Anyone ever seen a tree fail because of Hypholoma fasciculare?
  13. Our monster we got going today. Was a big of a pain to get going as everything was soaking wet.
  14. Yup. we are having issues this evening. It was off when i got in from work and took a few attempts to get it working again. Sis was having a major tantrum becuase it wasnt working on her Iphone 2. It was launched across the room in my direction even though i didnt let out a peep.
  15. We use those around the pheasant n partridge pens. We leave the wad in there and it frightens anyone who sets them off. Ive set one off on a shoot day. Got a big bruise soon after.
  16. Leant it to the team in Dorchester.....Got a phonecall yesterday. They were mowing heavy wet tussocky grass (the thing it hates) which had 2 inch thick blackthorn interspaced between it. Sounds like the chain drive has gone as the pto will engage the gears will rotate but no movement from the flail head so will be taking it apart tomorrow morning to check the chain hasnt just bounced off. Hoping the chain hasn't snapped or the shaft has snapped (happened last time when colleague hit roll of barbed wie hidden in grass).
  17. He worked no harder than the other 3 we had out today. Bramble (father) did a stunning retreive on a hard hit hen which went miles back. The vet did say that if we brought him out on a shoot day it would give him a fresh spark and his fire is back. He is putting weight back on and is getting stronger every week. Floyd picked up his first bird and brought it back to hand today. We havent even started training on feather yet and he brought a partridge back with no chewing at all. We think he has picked it up from his dad.
  18. Where i work we have a 2 tier ladder for the normal tree work, a 3 tier for the higher trees (crown lifted ones) and we borrow a 135 ladder from the tree team that are next to our container. A 135 is what the fire service normally use and will happily reach into the crowns of 80ft Ash.
  19. I did the LANTRA course and although it was informative there was enough in the course for you to develop your identifying skills.
  20. I will be doing that this weekend when dads 110 comes out of the garage.
  21. Father and son after a day out beating. Floyd (bottom dog is 7 Months!)
  22. Basically aim for Shillingstone then at a blind crest turn right and park in the "Trailway car park". There is a sign saying no cars beyond this point and a road planing lined car park then walk across the main road up the bridleway and your in Blandford Forest. Its Forestry Commission owned so to my knowledge it is open acess. Here is a link of the map. The "A" is where to aim for the woods are in the bottom of the image. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Hodway+Lane,+Shillingstone&hl=en&ll=50.881052,-2.231426&spn=0.037582,0.090895&sll=50.888659,-2.22382&sspn=0.018788,0.045447&vpsrc=6&hnear=Hodway+Ln,+Shillingstone,+Dorset+DT11+0,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=14
  23. I went out with some friends when it was really foggy and when the mushrooms were going nuts. Here are the pics. I shall ID most of the fungi but others i'm not sure what they are. This is my true fungi stomping ground. Pic 3 - Candle snuff - Xylaria hypoxylon Pics 4,5 - Hypholoma dispersum Pics 6,7 - Agaricus placomyces Pics 8,9 - Mycena galopus - Milking Bonnet Pics 10,11,12 - [stropharia aeruginosa/I] Pics 13,14,15 - Unknown fungi growing under hawthorn in 60 year old beech plantation. Pics 17, 18 - Unknown fungi growing on Oak deadwood Pic 19 - Fistulina heptica Pic 20 -Stereum sp on same oak Pics 28,29 - Crepidotus variabilis - Variable Oysterling. Pics 31,32,33 - Coprinus comatus - Shaggy Inkcap
  24. Its fairly common around my area. I saw 3 old hawthorns in decline with it today. I've seen one on a stretch of trailway we manage. The hawthorn is almost dead and the mistletoe is growing with what energy the tree has.
