  1. As long as you werent cutting actually in the flame wots the problem. Should post this but if our fires are choked of oxygen we go around the edges and cut the stuff out that is holding it up.
  2. Now that was below the belt. Not all tools are going to be pristine. They will pick up gunk and grime no matter what cleaner you use. Granted the chipper looks like it hasnt been cleaned in a long time (for all we know it could have been done last week). 300 hours isnt long for a chipper lifetime. It could have done 15,000 miles of road driving so will pick up the salt n oils off the road and we all know how much of a pig it is to clean off salt of our vehicles. If all tools we extremely shiny and looked like they had come off the forecourt you have more likelihood of them being nicked.
  3. Ive seen people in telehandler buckets cutting limbs off various bits and bobs. Ive witnessed a whole cedar of lebanon being dropped in large chunks with a bloke sat in the bucket with a selection of saws. The biggest was on the deck ready to fell the main stem. Was a veru funny site to say the least. No rope holding the bloke in. Just chainsaw hat and trousers for PPE.
  4. It is we couldnt beleive it. We got onto site and saw the gunge/sludge when we got the cans out. Several cars had broken down as well because of it. I'm not going to disclose the name of the petrol station we got it from due to site rules.
  5. We had a bad batch of fuel a week or so ago. Must have been in the bottom of the tank. Looked fine coming out of the pump but when it settled there was about half a litre of sludge in the bottom of the combi can. We took it back to the petrol station and they refunded us. We were then given a voucher to fill up with upto 50 litres of any fuel for free. We took the two 20 l jerry cans and the two combi cans and filled up with the top notch fuel.
  6. Taken on camera phone from Milldown.
  7. We had an old MS 034 (Was stolen a couple of years ago) that we called Herbie as it wouldnt stop. We took it to our dealer and they sorted it only to go to back to square 1 again. We had to choke it to kill it.
  8. My old man used to be in the fire brigade (Not going to go into reasons for leaving). He used to get the newbies to take the caps off the back of the appliances just after he pressurized the system. Was highly amusing. Just before he left he dealth with a big dodgy hung up beech. He just put a ladder up, attached a strop and used the winch to make the tree safe. The jaws of life will cut most things but not 18 inches of beech.
  9. Will let ya know as soon as we start stump cutting.
  10. Thought it would have been. Just cleared area ready for pheasie pen on local estate. Was hard going as most of the trees were hung up and still attached at the coppice stool. The pen is going to be able to hold upto 5,000 pheasant.
  11. Yep. We cut the tree down only 6 weeks ago and it was dripping during the day. Going to be cutting the stumps down and treating them soon. Got a carbide tipped chain on the way and a set of chipper chains as well. The stumps havent been cut for a few years and the boss wants em dead.
  12. Slight derail. In pic 15 is that a pheasant pen or just a fence to keep people off the root systems?
  13. LOL. We had a monster today in our fire pit. Started it at lunch and we burnt about 8 ton of brash within 5 hours. all hand dragged. Had some lovely smoky leylandii and a bit of rhody, laurel and yew to burn too.
  14. Here are some pics of a Sycamore stump. Taken today.
  15. Pic of one of my colleagues next to a monster fire. Would this be classed as a lunge?
  16. Thank you. I'm currently waiting for my new camera as my old work one would have cost £150 to repair and we bought it for 70 so not worth repairing.
  17. Oh cocksocks - When something goes wrong.
  18. Looks like that fire will smoulder for a few days yet.
  19. Here is a better pic of the cut end. We had some rain overnight which washed out the crack of the detritus that had built up.
  20. We've got a couple of them in our store. It saves quite a bit of time as it sharpens the chain and reduces the depth gauges at the same time. Very nice bit of kit but as you say just a bit steep on the price.

  22. The recent Fosters Ad always cracks me up and will for months to come [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0ws0jshIgg[/ame]
  23. Its scary at the power of mother nature. With a quake that big how long will it be before Mount Fiji is set off? It doesnt look good for the nuke reactor though. There is the potential for another Chernobyl blow out or if the whole lot goes up another Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Either way it doesnt look good for the locals. Soon after the tsunami recedes there will be lots of diseases in the contaminated water.
