  1. We didnt spend anything on our pushy stick. A piece of heavily forked Hazel. Each time it gets chewed a bit or goes thru completely we just cut another one.
  2. This is the beast that we use to do most of our mowing. It has interchangeable decks. We have a lawn deck and a rough deck.
  3. That would be ideal. Maybe the "FLIR" system in the police and search and rescue helicopters or similar and smaller. Everytime it detects a heat source it stops the feed rollers and you have to reset the system by the push of the forward feed controller.
  4. Yep we occasionally work with EA. We've seen there tracked piece of kit at work and its brilliant. Trouble is the site were have been working on its covered in massive pieces of flint. So the flail hammers would be destroyed in seconds.
  5. We brushcut it a couple of years ago and raked it into big heaps and had a big burning sesh. The slope is too steep even for a lil compact tractor.
  6. We work on the ecologist spec as it is easier to follow. E.g. Year 1 - Remove Gorse. Year 2 - Control Gorse. Year 3 - same as year 2, etc, etc, etc
  7. The branch was reduced and we left a about an 18 inch stub near the trunk for habitat. The crack didnt decend too far into the beam (only 6 inches or so) so we decided to cut it back to a point where it wont look silly but at the same time will become a habitat for lil critters in years to come.
  8. Here are the pics of Okeford Hill 2. No public access at all. Gorse, Bramble and small patches of Ash copse with a few pockets of good quality chalk grassland. Lots of flint and very much on the wazz. Current management plan involves removing Gorse and Brambles to encourage further grass to spread.
  9. Last week on one of my site rounds i spotted a split in a sizeable limb (2ft approx at butt). We had our own council contractors come and deal with it this week. When the limb was being reduced to a managable size the tree surgeon was a tad nervous as it made a loud crack from the butt. He decided to drop it in two sections (Crown and trunk). Ive attached images of said limb with crack clearly visible.
  10. Lighter fluid might shift it. Would be thin enough to clear out the gunk.
  11. Gutted that KP has had to leave early and now Broad is out with a side strain. Pretty much a kick in the nuts for the England fans.
  12. Firm is based in Dorchester so not too far to travel. We jetwashed it today at the yard with the near side front and offside rear tyres on logs so we can clean the suspension components easier. Going to see if it clunks when it dries out.
  13. Same here. Cant cut any more trees down as birds are starting to nest. The next plan of action is to nibble back brambles so they will not be a pain during the summer during our mowing regime. Then into the joys of ivy banding. Edit: Might just nibble back the exisiting bramble patches with our 13 hp rotary mower. As our normal contractor has removed his flail arm for the winter.
  14. Not sure. I think it was a DIY job as the owner was a mechanic. Was really good fun as well as the exhaust was two straight through pipes off the manifold. It was very loud and was a tad smoky when accelerating and going up hills.
  15. It has been neglected a bit. We partially cleared it just to open up sight lines and the little muddy path went in between two big bramble patches. We removed them both and hope that we get more grass and wildflowers coming up. Will get some pics of it during the summer. I shall also get some pics of the site we are working on tomorrow. Its got one of the best views in the county and its more of the same (Bramble bashing with some gorse mixed in). The fire wont be quite as big.
  16. I have been in a Defender 90 at 120 mph lol (not a council truck tho). It has a TDV8 with a supercharger on it. I was cacking myself as its been speced up to dakar standards. 120 mph down a gravel track made my ass go tighter than a goldfishes mouth lol. But the newer L200's in comparison to the new defenders have much more low end power. In the L200 you can tickle along in low range first gear. In the defenders you have to apply a bit of throttle to get it going and keep it going.
  17. Stihl FS 550 brushcutter, bowsaw and loppers. My arms were ok as i was on the brushcutter all day. It was my legs after walking through the brambles that i had cut down. We used the clearing saw head at the end of the day to knock down the stumps after the guys had felled 3 inch blackthorn with bowsaws and new loppers. We werent expecting to be working in T-shirts at lunch.
  18. Cheers tha puts our minds at ease then. But why is it clicking on the back?
  19. Yarp. Got some pics of a fire damaged Field Maple that we felled. Had a lean toward the car park so decided to fell it. The pics show the decay completely shut out in the first pic. Second pic shows the rot setting in with a bit of bark occlusion.
  20. I was typing as you posted As i submitted yours came up.
  21. We would do the legal 50 but when we go between 45-50 the trailer (especially when loaded) goes on the wobbly. Tyres are all at correct pressure but no idea why it goes all wobbly on us. So we stick to 45 with the double axle trailer on. We can do 50 happily with the chipper on the back and will happily cruise at 70(ish) on the dual cariageways.
  22. Looks very much like fire damage and judging by the square shape of the fire scar in the grass (light patch) it would have been a car or similar. Hence the wide scope of damage.
  23. It might be that but sounds more metallic. It is intermittent and only seems to do it on level ground.
  24. L200 now sorted. EGR valve removed, new better wastegate (sounds a bit like an EVO8) , and the ECU has been reset. Goes very well and will quite happily pull 2 ton of logs at 45. Brakes were re-adjusted as well.
  25. We have recently noticed that our 10 plate Ranger when on full lock clicks, squeaks, crunches, etc from the front and back suspension. We were thinking it might be that because it mainly does road driving the suspension isnt travelling far enough and clicks because it is stretching. We had it on full articulation today and was clicking like mad. Would spraying grease onto the shocks and springs help? Or would it be a case of new suspension all round. It has only done just over 9800 miles.
