  1. If the end weight is reduced/removed would that crack still be there. If it is then cracking bat habitat to leave.
  2. Blades were sharpened 2 weeks ago so should be ok for the summer. Degreased it at the end of the mowing season with a steam pressure washer. All wear is equal on all pulleys. When we have it on the lowest (2 inch) height the angle of the belt is pulling the belt uphill which is probably why it bounces off so often. 5l x 75. Its gone in today for a weeks worth of work (just niggles and to sort belt bouncing) Apparently its a common problem with our model but it can be resolved with 2 x 1/4" washers.
  3. Thats what we were doing today. I went through with the 341 with a chipper chain cutting the bigger (2 inches +) stumps with a colleague in hot pursuit treating them with neat Glypho 360. We used to do a 50:50 mix for stump treating but it didnt work very well so we now use it neat. We have just got a fresh batch of Glypho 360 but still have the old container so any excess from the stump treating jug will be going into that as we dont want to contaminate the new stuff with woodchip and bits.
  4. The trees were cut down last winter so we needed to cut the first 2-3 inches of wood to get down to the fresh tubes so we could apply the herbicide. My colleague thought it was pointless cutting the stumps down but it would be pointless applying herbicide to a dry, cracked semi dead stump. Looks nicer as well with the stumps about an inch above ground level.
  5. Coz im waiting for my Type A's. Last pair of type A's i had lasted me 2 years before the seam on the outside of my right leg fell apart. Was told by council H + S guy to replace them and use the Type C's for now.
  6. Been too hot to spray so been stump treating instead. Was roasting my nuts in type c trousers. Mowing tomorrow then off til the 3rd May.
  7. Thats why we use the same safe access points. We havent had an accident caused by our mud as we try and keep it out in the field and lanes. Been warned by the local pc for dropping mud on the roads. We asked him why he didnt warn farmers but apparently because they are agri vehicles they fall under a different area.
  8. Or some Mickey Thompson Baja's. On a few council fleet vehicles (RoW 110s, 130s) We run Insa Turbo Special Tracks. They are noisy but have nearly an inch of tread. We have had a notice in the past that we put up before going back ont surfaced roads saying "Caution: Mud depositing on road. Please keep your distance".
  9. Found several last year mowing and strimming. Worst thing though was i found a hornet nest in a rotten crack willow stump. I was cutting it lower with the 440 and was aware of a few hornets milling around but didnt think much of it. It was only when i was surrounded by em and getting stung that i realised that i had hit the hidden nest inside the stump. I have never run so fast for a watercourse before. What amazed me tho is we went back in the winter and they had completely covered the 440 in "paper". It had partially fallen away and the saw was still in place. We were expecting it to have either disappeared (been stolen) or to be a non runner. Wasnt expecting it when i put a fresh tank of fuel in as it had ran dry after been running on idle for however long it was for it to run out of fuel on idle and 3 pulls and it was running. The only time i've been stung by bees was when i found a honey bee hive in an old fence straining post. They didnt attack me when i snapped the post only when i threw the post into the back of the van.
  10. Bought it at the weekend and its really good. A must buy if your into alternative rock.
  11. I'm liking Seethers new one [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDepqD_Wlkg&feature=channel_video_title[/ame]
  12. More pics. Top pics are the same fungi at top of page just a week on.
  13. Looks like Dead mans Fingers. But unusual to be growing at 2 metres. Normally a ground dweller that eats dysfunctional wood.
  14. We were 50 metres away from the fire and we had 1 ping off the beacon on the van. We went another 50 back lol
  15. OK. Can never tell if its going to be a bt line or 500v elecy line.
  16. I am 90% certain it was asbestos as some of it was in sheets and those insulation tiles you find in school buildings. HSE been informed and got licensed contractors coming out to start on it tomorrow. We asked the fire crews to damp it down rather than saturate just to keep the fibres low down. and turn it into a pasty sort of consistency.
  17. That a bt line or elecy line thats nackered?
  18. All we can do is ask him to stop putting more on. If he carries on we cant force him to stop. We did say that the police and fire brigade had been informed. He went back into the house so we directed the police to that address.
  19. Been nicked for fly tipping and got vid evidence too. Gonna get him to pay for the contractor too.
  20. We were doing site checks today and came across a large plume of smoke coming from one of our sites. We checked how big the fire was first and then proceded to call out the fire brigade and police as we were watching a man putting asbestos insulation, aerosol cans, paint tins, and 2 matresses on to what was already a raging fire. By the time the fire crews had arrived the fire was safe to leave. We watched (stealthly) where the man went and made a note of how far down the terrace he was. He was a builder as well so should have known better. Now going to have to get specialist contractors out to deal with it.
  21. Got tensioner on both decks, The one on the lawn deck is a self tensioner and moves with the tension of the belt. It bounces around a massive amount which leads me to suspect the belt is too long. and the belt on the rough deck is a constant tension as you can lock it in place.
  22. Timbrel and strong (360 or stronger) Glyphosate. Normally twice a year. Once about now and again in august as it starts to send nutrients into the rhizome. You would want to blast it with round up now and timbrel in august. For Timbrel max dosage is 150ml to 10 litres of water. And our glyphosate we use at 500ml to 10 litres.
  23. We hve noticed this year that our belt seems to be slipping alot more on the lawn deck. We have had the rough deck belt bounce off a few times as well. we aren't using it any differently than last year. We have just ordered new belts as we think the old ones have stretched. Any one else had the same problem?
