  3. I think this is Bleeding Canker. The trees are on a piece of green space outside my house. Both showing signs of yellowing of the leaves and lots of orange and black ooze.
  4. Yep. Plenty of deadwood habitats in there for the woodpeckers and tree creepers to utilise. There is a big Oak that is slowly falling apart. I counted 5 species of bird using the various holes and cracks.
  5. That will be next weeks job. Checking the sites for new species and counting current ones.
  6. Just looked at pic again and your right. Thought my butterfly ID was better but infact its rather rusty.
  7. Wasnt an Orange tip Its a Green-veined White. Although Orange-tip butterflies feed of mainly Garlic Mustard and are the only larval food plant. Other whites use them as a source of larval food as it is a member of the Brassicae family.
  8. Boss has decided to go for Great Dane Scamper Hydro. We got a quote for the Scags and cheapest was £5350. £2350 over our budget. But going to trial the dane first before purchasing.
  9. Do you recon this Beech has Polyporus spp in the root system? No sign of die back in crown. As seen in the pics the root butresses are excentuated.
  10. Looks like that and has completely defoliated most of the trees.
  11. I would top the poplar as it would make a nice bat tree with that split.
  12. In one of the local FC woodlands the Oaks are being hammered by little green caterpillars. Last summer my dad and i noticed a large number of small white moths flying around the crowns. I did wonder if it was OPM but the caterpillars are hairless. The remaining leaves are dry and curled up. I havent got any pics yet but will do when in the woods next.
  13. Ta fungus. Just been looking through my facebook albums and found same fungus. In the first two pics its Postia ptychogaster. Still not sure about the second pair of pics.
  14. Ta Pyro. Next query are Scag Mowers any good? Looking at either the Pro-V or the SFW.
  15. Looking at buying a replacement for our old and knackered Honda UM516 C. The boss wants something equal power to the DR Mower we already have but a better drive system. Any one use them and how easy they to use?
  16. Always nice to listen to. Prefer this version to Pink Floyd. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzkiJJ_NkD0&feature=related]YouTube - Korn - Another Brick In The Wall Full[/ame]
  17. Saw a line of mature beech all in decline thanks to our friends Kretzchmaria deusta and Giant Polypore. They fell over one by one as their root plates were intertwined. Was rather spectacular watching them drop like dominoes.
  18. Got a few: - Giving their bush a trimming. - Die, Weeds, Die (Spraying) - Run, Forest, Run (when setting up for felling) - Get the suckie blowie - Oh fish tits (when in member of publics garden and something goes wrong)
  19. Hi Gerrit. Whilst sorting out my work pictures i found these little critters. The first two pictures are of a small white bracket fungi. It was growing on a Hazel stub that had been cut 3 years previously. We had heavy rainfall the week prior to taking the picture. The second pair of pictures are of a similar bracket on a dead ash limb that had dropped. The last 3 pictures were taken at the base of an ill cherry tree measuring aprox 18 inch dbh. It has since fallen over but is still growing. Any ideas?
