Was only pulling your leg. Not going to fell it just reduce it a bit and give it a rebalance as most of its weight is leaning towards a solicitors.
-
Try and get hold of the company that did that and report em to RSPB, RSPCA. Would be a hefty fine for them and maybe 6 months prison for bloke who felled the tree.

Chicks still alive?

How bout this for dual? Inonotus dryadeus on the outside. Ganoderma on the inside. Shagged both ways me thinks.
-
Thats what i was thinking to doing. Fracture prune to a pollard or similar. It has sent out rot crown branches so the rot is fairly extensive.
-
The tree only gets a very light (few twigs) crown lift each year but nothing major. Was thinking along the lines of canker but its attacking the heart wood judging by the buckling. The trees were subject to some abuse by some travellers that camped illegally during a loca steam fair. So Armillaria may have got in there through the bark being shot/beaten.

One of the clutch springs had snapped so one of the shoes was on permanently. When the saw was running it was just spinning around on the sprocket but when the chainbrake applied it had enough grip to kill the saw. Now got a new spring in and all good.

Tis a biggen. Approx age - 250 years old. Shame its got very rotten and its a very heavily use public area. Would like to manage accordingly but would have to fence area off. Last fence we put up was destroyed and set fire by the local oiks.
-
Any ideas what has caused this? It has steadily got worse over the past couple of years and now tree is starting to suffer.

Took some pics of the beasts we have at Stour Meadows. Looks like one of the boughs/limbs had split sometime in its life.

After 2 days of solid strimming i did some tree checks on our Oaks at Stour Meadows. I saw one of the Oaks has Inonotus dryadeus growing in the butress roots. It wasnt there last year but was aware there was a cavity forming but wasnt sure how bad it was... until today. With my mums camera i got some shots of the cavity and i think is goodbye Oak. It has Ganoderma badly in the cavity. I counted at least 6 brackets. TO has been informed about the tree. It has two major targets (building and busy footpath) within falling distance. Nothing is nesting in there so it may have to be a summer felling job.

Wasnt meaning to be an insulting comment:blushing:. Its just the select few in my area that make merry hell when we fell the smallest sapling. We were made the anti christ the other day for deadwooding an old Oak with a 20 mm rope and a van. Deadwooding and fracture pruning in one

Trust me its tempting. Would get rid of a few tree huggers too
-
Yep. exactly like that
-
I've noticed that on Dandelions and Ox-eye Daisy's too. Some type of gall or canker?
-
Informed the TO and head of Arb today and the wheels are in motion for them to be reduced to a 2 metre monolith with top coronet cuts. We are thinking about MEWPing it and use the Sessile Oak behind as the lowering tree as we hit butresses with a hammer and instead of a nice "doink" it was a sickening thud. So hopefully within 2 months they will be down. Unless the local tree group objects:001_rolleyes:. They think all trees are good no matter how nackered they are and how important the targets.

An old apprentice just gave me a load of his ex's symphonic rock albums as she has gone into the world of HTID. Here are some of the songs from various albums. Heavy for some people chilling for me. 3 days a week on average end of season is normally 5 days a week. And yep hit the hedge as it came into land. Not much of a hole in the hedge but flew directly over the estate HQ -

In the words of Quagmire "Giggity Giggity Gooooo" -
Already ahead of ya got a nice big Sessile Oak directly behind them to use for lowering the branches. Its a little bit smaller (10 ft lower) that the beeches but can use an ash as well.
-
Sweeeeet. Time to get the 090 ready then. But only for the trunks. Depending on how bad the rot is will depend on what the outcome is for the timber.

Did some basic surveys on these Common/English Oaks. Most of them have a defect in one way or another. First 5 pics are of a roadside oak. The road only a residential one so not overly busy but busy footpath underneath it. The next 5 pics are of its roadside neighbour. It has Inonotus dryadeus at the base and very obvious decay judging by hole made by local kids in butress root. The next 2 is of what i believe is Chicken of the Woods growing from an old wound and a pictures of its crown from the base. The final 5 are of another Oak on the site with Inonotus dryadeus growing from the base. I shall get some better shots on Saturday as my current new camera is nackered. So will be using my SLR again. -
Thought so. Our in house tree team wanted a challenge. We'll give em this pig of a job lol. Next a main road so all going to have to be lowered and traffic lights too as on a blind bend.
-
Was doing site checks this arvo and noticed the beech were very tufty in the top. Not the usual flowing lines. They are next to a busy main road and a garage. The district council tree officer has said monitor the past 3 years but i think its time to act and get these bad boys reduced. What do you recon? And how hard a reduction?

Thank you. If you don't mind just printed that lot off to check for various wear/heat points. We had it on an old (1993) 034 we called "Herbie" as the stop switch didnt work. After running for 15 mins at full throttle the with the chain brake on it would still creep round very slowly. It didnt matter where it went it would come back the same. Sadly it was stolen with our 2 month old 361 and 4 month old FS450 and T516 tirfor winch. Boss hit the roof but wasnt our fault.
