Yeah, its possibly the diaphram. Might have a small hole in it. The kits come with a new one. Take the muffler off and look at the piston for scoring if you think it has run lean.

Carb rebuild? Not expensive if you do it yourself.
  4. Try the landrover mags. Theres loads of ads for all types of tyres, and they come fitted on ally or steel, depending on price.Last time i looked they were reasonable. No fitting costs either. If you dont mind going used, i picked up four general grabbers on ally for a ton last year from the local scrapper. Practically new.
  5. We`ve got a Hamlet, which was about 600 quid.Well made unit of 5kw.
  6. If the council highways dept. have done the work they normally issue a warning first, then bill the owner for the work. Do buses use the road?Around here, they use their own guys to trim back branches.Perhaps they`ve got a bit overenthusiastic. Might be an avenue of enquiry.
  7. I`m fussy with the sharpness of my chains. As soon as i notice a bit more effort being required to cut and the chips are not as crisp, i sit and file.
  8. I use a guide. I`m not a pro doing it daily, so havent really got the knack of getting the angles right freehand. My chains always come up good and sharp, so guides suit me at the moment.
  9. Lot of money for an 08s. They normally fetch less than a ton.A lot less.Saws in general on there seem to be selling for good money though.
  10. Bit of both really.Saved a bomb on bills. The woods free. Its great to come home to after being out in the cold and wet, with a stew bubbling on top, or a whistling kettle just starting to hiss. It got me into saws as i had access to wood, but needed to cut it. Now all thats an enjoyable sideline, which is pretty much a hobby to get me out in the fresh air.
  11. Besides the power issue of running such a long loop around the 36" bar, a 460 oiler wont be enough to lubricate chain and bar leading to overheating and damage to an already expensive set up.

    Hung tree

Hang ups can be pretty dangerous and unpredictable. There is a way of cutting, but its an advanced technique and as the tree is dead, might not work safely anyway. The tree can easily swing forward and hit you when cut. There isnt a lot of control available.Towing it out with a 4by is an option. Its really best left to someone who knows what they are doing.
  13. Surely its only waste if you say its waste. Chip can be sold or used. Its what you say rather than what you do that gets you convicted of offences.
  14. I find stihl chain stays sharper longer.
  15. The chains i`ve had from kwikchip have all been stihl. I dont use anything else.
  16. I`ve had some good deals from kwikchip on the bay for chains Get a free account with topcashback and search the bay through it and get further money off.
  17. 460. Powerfull saw without the weight of the 660. I have three bars for mine:18,25,28".Covers most eventualities.
  18. The answer could be in the question:`when hot`.If the clutch springs are needing replacing then the shoes will always be engaged with the drum. This will generate some heat. Is the drum `blued`and hot to the touch? Is the chain still moving when idling. Brake on or off? Heat expansion in this area will affect brake operation as the drum will expand and jam the brake band. How well cared for are the saws? Gunked up around the band? Clutch bearing shot? Just a few pointers mate.
  19. Theres probably a lot of embelishments to the story to exploit peoples `bambi` instincts, cause agro, and sell a few more papers. You dont really want a dominant stag putting its genes into a herd for more than a few years otherwise it will be procreating with its daughters, desease and deformity will pass into the herd to its detriment. Good management focuses on the herd, not the individual. An old stag will have well worn teeth that make feeding difficult. It will eventually die through malnourishment. On the upside, those passed on genes will ensure a fit healthy herd with some magnificent beasts to come.
  20. Your boss has likely been in your position earlier in his life and now wants to kick back and enjoy the proceeds of a sucessfull built up business. Keep his overheads to a minimum and pay his employees an average wage. Unless you offer something indespensable to him, then its unlikely he will want to up it any if he can pick up another climber at a similar rate.As has been said a labourer without any qualifications who can graft all day and sort anything thrown at him is an asset you want to keep. If you are staying on to do jobs like maintenance or coming in early for no real return, stop doing it and have more family time or do some jobs on the side.He then might see your value. Otherwise start up on your own, or find another employer. Sub yourself out for work. Good luck with whatever you try.
  21. Stihl 260. Great saw for this type of work.Whos going to be using it?If its a labourer ragging your gear with not a lot of skills, then the powersharp system might be a good choice to keep up productivity. If it was me using the saw, i`d sooner file it by hand.
  22. Gobemaster. Nothing fancy. 20 quid. It gets some hammer this time of year and seems really bulletproof.
  23. +bodges. I worked as an electrician many moons ago and it never ceased to amaze me what people would use to pass 240 volts through. Bell wire was a favourate, picking up power from any circuit. Using bellwire/phonewire for an overhead to a shed or garage is downright dangerous, but if it can be done, then the inept will do it. As has been said always check lines, you can never be sure whats running through it. It can and will kill you.
  24. GB pro top is a very good bar. I have a 28" for my 046
  25. Sounds like he considers himself more of a `mate` than an `employee` and now thinks he can push the boundaries of whats acceptable and it will be ok cos you are mates.Familiarity breeds contempt. Having said that, i wouldnt put up with that from a mate, but some peoples standards in which they deal with friends varies considerably.Whats yours is ours and all that.
