    Dolmar 116

Sachs Dolmar 116 Chainsaw needs work 18ins on eBay (end time 27-Jan-11 21:41:57 GMT) No bids. Dead cheap if you like Dolmars.
  2. The real problems start when folks think they can progress from chopping up logs to some tree felling. A couple of years ago i cleared a mixture of dead elms and sycamore from a building plot. Nothing huge, but most of them needed roping. I was shocked to find some really amateurish deep cuts through some of the trees then just left. They were dangerous, but the cuts were by no means fresh. I can only think that the individual bottled it and left them. They had attempts at face cuts against the lean of the tree.If continued with, they would at best, have sat back on the bar. At worst fallen the opposite way or even barber chaired.
  3. Whoever your carrier is will charge you about a tenner on top of import duty and VAT.`Administration` for paying your taxes in advance. I`ve bought a fair bit of stuff from the US.Shooting bits and bobs mostly, but hard to get items like carb kits for old saws are cheaper and easier to find. A lot of stuff used to just come through untaxed, but everything seems to get stung now where the government are looking at ways of fleecing us, and tightening up.
  4. Nice set up. The 070. Some kind of quote problem.

    Firebricks

Dont know mate, but we use a bit of coal too. The throat plate in our stove rests on the firebricks .

    Firebricks

Anyone else replaced their stove bricks recently? I was shocked to find my local supplier wanting 68 quid for a set for my hamlet. Looked at getting some vermiculite board and cutting them myself, but the sizes that i`ve found wont produce the bricks i want without buying a lot of additional board. Thereby working out expensive. Fixable?i`ve got some stove cement.Only one brick is completely broken, the rest are cracked. Tightwad i know, but i was expecting 20-30 quid tops and it chaffes a bit.So anywhere i can get some at a sensible price.Or a reasonable alternative. 2x330x210x25 2x357x263x25 Cheers guys.
  9. If i`d gone that far with stripping, then i would fit new fuel and impulse hoses, and have a really good look at the carb boot for splits. Also replace the crank seals or at least vac test it for leaks. When i rebuilt an 026 i cleaned up the cylinder with acid. The stuff from builders merchants for cleaning bricks. It lifts off the aluminium transfer, and as long as its not deeply gouged, bit of fine wet and dry will bring it up fine. A patern piston off the bay and the jobs a good un.
  10. If its cos its seized through anything other than not putting oil on the fuel or its just worn, then it might be a lean seizure and the carb boot fuel line and case seals might want looking at otherwise it will seize again.
  11. Do you mean a big pipe like this? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CovJD_Ozbng&feature=related]YouTube - 026 piped chainsaw[/ame] Loads of info on arboristsite. Its very technical and the pipes are built by hand to suit the porting work on the saw.
  12. Competancy with the saw, not standing over the kerf and keeping an eye on where the tip is, is the safest thing you can do.
  13. I run my saws on 40:1 with the Stihl stuff. No noticeable difference next to 50:1. It just gives a bit more lubrication. I`m not on a budget when it comes to looking after my gear.Any more and i think you`re going to get carbon build up all over your piston crown and in the exhaust port.
  14. Having, and providing wood for, a stove is something i really enjoy, but if you want it cheap then theres graft involved.I`m just small time. For us, my parents and my brother, but it never ceases to amaze me how idle people can be. They deserve to pay. Workmates know i cut wood, and the arrangement is:help me out on my side jobs labouring;have some logs.Or any windblown or contacts they may have, i`ll do the cutting, they labour, split the wood. Works fine and everyones happy. There are however, those who just ask`Any spare logs mate?`Spare logs?is there such a thing. No offer of a bit of help, just `can you leave me out a pile and i`ll pick them up sometime`. `What about helping me out for a couple of hours?` `Nah, too busy at the moment.Tell you what, i`ll pick up some wood at the forest(FC) when i walk the dogs`. As though wood is free and for the taking. Trouble is, lots of folks see wood as a waste product, dont see the work that is behind it, and think they are doing you a favour burning it.Then moan about the cost of heating when the answer is right there.
  15. Dereliction of duty.In other words too bottleless to persue an investigation.I`d have reported it to the chief constable.

    Modding?

I modified the mufflers on my 026 and 046. It definately wakes them up.I also played around with the porting on an old 026. Nothing drastic, just polishing and a slight widening of the exhaust port and polishing of the inlet. Quite big gains on cutting speed, but a lot more fuel used.Fun though.
  17. Fair bit of heat being generated there to cause that burning. Is that normal?

    034 av

Mate, while you`ve got it apart, have a look at your fuel and impulse hoses.A bit of extra hastle, but worth it in the long run.

    Got my 357!!

    Nice saw. Congrats.
  20. The longer the bar, the tighter the chain has to be to stop it sagging. Not only has the motor got to pull more cutters through the wood, it has to overcome more frictional resistance of the chain on the bar. Big bars on saws for joe public are there because they asume it means a more powerfull saw= more units sold.

    Stihl 034 issues

Nothing wrong with stihls, but like any tool, they need a bit of maintenance. You`ve said you bought it used, so it may have had a lot of use. On the face of it your problems appear to be in the fuel system which just needs a bit of stripping cleaning and replacement of a few inexpensive parts.

    Stihl 034 issues

Its underneath the saw.Comes from the rear of the crankcase to the carb.It will be behind the part of the rear handle that runs underneath the saw.Long black pipe with some ripples in it. You wont be able to see it without taking the rear handle assembly off.You may just about see it between the rear of the clutch cover and the rear handle assembly where it goes through to the carb, but this wont tell you a lot as you cant see all of it. Recon its time to twirl some spanners bud, thats what the long winter evenings are for.
  25. The only good deals i`ve had on saws have been `buy it nows` in the week. People shifting shed fulls of inherited items etc, where they dont know the value and just want to turn a few quid. The worst time to bid on saws are those that end on weekend evenings when folks are halfway through a box of strongbow.
