  1. My folks have a large one at the bottom of their garden. It hangs over a small river. Its a nice healthy tree of about 5` diameter at the trunk. It affords a good deal of screening from the footpath and open area across the river which has attracted a lot of chavs and other drunks, displaced from the local park by the police. My folks are quite attached to it and rightly so, however, a lot of clearing work has started to take place the other side of the river. When questioned, the boy in charge said they were opening it up a bit as a local amenity and trimming back trees hanging over the river for H&S reasons. My parents arent too chuffed as they havent been asked if its ok and its their tree. The bod said the branch might be rotten and needs to come out. It isnt. No rot, no fungi, no splits, no cracks. It is a significant branch which only reaches over the river and not the path. The people claimed to be `Natural enterprise` . I said to check with the council that there wasnt a TPO in existence for the area and the group were`nt just volunteers with a couple of McCullochs poking around where they shouldnt be. If its legit, my old chap said he would let them get on with it, but wants the branch for firewood. TBH if they have authority to do the work then it might be an idea to let them get on with it. But if they have it but stand a chance of wrecking the tree, then i`d sooner do it myself. On the plus side they said they are reinforcing the riverbank at the end of the garden.Maybe its a good bit of free work. The main concern my parents have is the amount of tree work taking place their side which they really dont want because of the reasons mentioned earlier. Any thoughts?
  2. A powerwash and a pic of it on a hardstanding might get you a better price.People dont tend to like the `grown in and abandoned several years ago` look. Just a thought.

  4. Doddle of a job just screws straight back in there. Use a bit of locktight if you think it might come out again.
  5. Speedo `budgie smugglers` on.Mind you, this time of year more like `Wren smugglers`
  6. Its people who laugh a lot on line then get qualified in it.
  7. You must mean charcoal surely.Otherwise i hope you`ve got several million years to spend waiting for it.
  8. They say `no waiting` here. I`ve checked, thanks.
  9. Double yellow lines mean `no waiting at any time`. With an adjacent plate on a lamp post to back it up. From previous experience in a former life as an electrician, they dont give a toss and you are at the mercy of whatever traffic nazi is patrolling at the time. When they were police employees you might appeal to their better nature on occasion and come to an arrangement. Since the local councils took it over often contracting out to private companies, they`ll just mug you whatever the reason for being there. The dicks have nicked hearses, and even police cars so doing a bit of chipping wont even cut it.
  10. Good point.Would put off those genuinely ignorant. Maybe a photo of it with the wood behind if the sign went missing and people were caught red handed.
  11. Yeah, recon people would just kick it over and carry on.
  12. Sometimes saws turn up on the bay or whatever very cheap. It can often be folks that have been left things in wills etc. They have no idea what its value is, but have seen `similar` things in B&Q and just want to turn everything into money.

    Help

Spuds right. Open up your muffler on your 260. Its really restrictive in standard form.Mine really rips with a 16"bar.361 looks a good saw otherwise. Not used one though. A 440 would also be a good saw.
  14. My log store is a bit remote but the farmhouse across the yard has just been sold and i know its got a big stove in it.The new owners might decide its for their benefit. Just have to see. I`ve had more wood lifted from job sites.People have said characters appear with wheelbarrows and bow saws as soon as we leave, so where possible we take as much as we can and leave the rest in 8` lengths to make it more difficult to cart away. Its a problem being secure in some places. Trouble is, a lot of folk just see it as waste and think they are doing you a favour.
  15. 046,460. Superb saw.
  16. Thats a real one. If it isnt Stihl have got problems. The price is round about what the yanks pay.Shipping over here costs plenty.

  18. Braken is also a carcinogen apparently. Not sure how:Cutting, clearing, the sap, dry, living, or whatever. Life is a carcinogen.
  19. Your friends mate wants a kick in the gonads.
  20. Got a Hamlet multi fuel 6kw. Dont know how many logs really as my brother and parents raid my log pile.
  21. If its reving high like that its normally an indication of a lean mixture. As you said previously, fuel starvation. Is your fuel filter gunked up or the line pinched at all?
  22. After 1/4 tank its up to temperature.Reduce your tickover untill the chain stops turning.Should be fine.
  23. The stihl one at 16 quid has been a good one.It sharpens fine, leather handle, cant fault it for the money.
  24. This looks sweet. stihl ms650 chainsaw 2009 model on eBay (end time 30-Jan-11 17:28:16 GMT)

Yeah, had been watching it. If the bottom end was bad there was a crank and bearings listed for 15 quid. The rest might have taken a while to track. I noticed a `buy it now` fresh listing Stihl 064 which was too good to miss. Someone had it. Nice project. Anyone off here?
