  1. Oh well there goes discretion.....! Greenmech have been really good all in all. I just don't think the machine is like it was.....which was awesome, sparky manoeuvrable and up to the job.....and i guess it still is now, but this rotor speed is nagging me.
  2. Evening all, The engine on my chipper went kaput within warranty and the manufacturer has replaced it but they have adjusted the machine so that the rotor speed has dropped from 1900 to 1740rpm. Now they are claiming that the 'throughput' is the same but I cant see how it can be - it certainly wouldn't throw the chip as far. They have raised the lower no stress limit and altered pulley lengths and ratios. I think they may have sped up the rollers but I cant be sure/remember. I had a bigger model for the 3/4 weeks the chipper was away for repairs so I am trying not to compare it to that, but I am sure my machine was more impressive before. The machine returned gleaming with paintwork all restored which was awesome....and had new blades fitted - possibly to mask performance issues?! I dont want to name the manufacturer in fairness yet but does their claim sound possible? Its beyond my mechanical brain to work out. Cheers Mark
  3. not much i can add to the above but i tend to enjoy your posts and you come across with knowledge and professionalism so all the best frum Devon Regards Mark
  4. looks trez Elmesque from here
  5. buy a shredder to suit your business size and compost it. surely you can re-sell the compost to customers? i expect you are on a sticky wicket in land usage terms with planning though....so stop doing it for a bit and then hatch a plan keep the neighbours sweet!! give them the compost?!
  6. Ha Hi Kevin, i thought that was you, and yes this is me! All good, gone a bit quiet, but its catch up time.....all good. Ive got an awesome team at the mo. Thanks for the input guys, yep pretty much as I thought. I can see in all cases but the removal of notable large trees prosecution is extremely unlikely. Joke.
  7. Evening all, Has anyone ever heard of a contractor being prosecuted for unauthorised works in CA's? I have just been to see an unauthorised half-completed job, which two other contractors (the one who started the work, and another quoting) failed to flag up the CA issue with the client. The client has hinted that they will go with the company most likely to keep things quiet, so I doubt we will be getting it....its not a biggy, so I'm not bothered. Then there is another company just round the corner, same CA, carrying out footwide logs from a garden, no CA application on the planning tracker...... so whats going on?? Hasnt the system got the teeth and are people ignoring the protocols? A TO did once use words to the effect that it is not in the interest blah blah to pursue convictions.....
  8. Brand new blades James! I have had to max out the throttle by clamping the throttle cable with the throttle held fully open to get the 1740rpm that they are saying is the top rotor speed of my machine now - I have no way of verifying the engine speed now compared to before but I reckon it is way down. Interesting what you are saying about the engine speed in other applications......I think the dealers are keen to get tachos on it to see what gm have done because they didnt tell them about it....i'll keep you posted but i have heard another story of the 130 needing a new engine...no details though...
  9. Thanks James - yep thats how mine used to work - now imagine it being quieter than a lawn mower and the no stress chewing away an inch between rolls to the disk with the revs hardly dropping off - its weird. Pretty sure the rotor speed IS the performance but basically im supposed to be happy with it running 10% slower.....on a small machine it is telling in performance. ta for your input
  10. magnolia, although ive only got one picture showing to go on!
  11. Its Arbmark Tree Care - appreciate your efforts but dont spend ages if its tricky !
  12. i used to use the portal but now i get a lot less complications by emailing a pdf'd photocopy of the written form to the TO
  13. James - havent you got an Arb130 chipper too? I just had to have my engine replaced - and im not sure its throughput is the same now they've dropped the rotor speed to 1740! They tell me as the gearing has been altered but im doubtful - had a 150 for the last month so its hard to compare to before.....
  14. here it is again stompy - its probably the same though https://www.facebook.com/pages/Arbmark-Tree-Care/256747557671396 all above liked cheers people! M
  15. to quote partridge.......god that's good
  16. hey there some great stuff on your page. that dovetail man! i cant even begin to picture how that went in! liking done - you can like mine at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Arbmark-Tree-Care/256747557671396 the lady is desperate to visit croatia.......i hope i can persuade her to look at woody stuff...cheers M
  17. turn the tap on, then keep your eyes on it and dont get distracted by other things! drill an air hole on the top and that will speed it up. I still fill an old transparent bottle first before tipping that into the combi still not happy with this method and hoping the right answer is going to appear soon!
  18. youre right - where you and i are going wrong is that we are spraying the sawdust away from ourselves, and probably across wind so it cant eddy back. doh!
  19. have you had it checked out - i went to the docs with wrist ache and lack of grip. having been referred to a physio today it turns out i have tennis elbow in both arms. seems like a mix of stretch, manipulation (was oww!) and i am guessing some strength exercises to follow. apparently my biceps are too big for my wrists!
  20. It does sound like a crab apple, probably just there as a pollinator? Are they pinky orange or pinky red?
  21. how long since these were felled guys? i got some three years old now and think it must be getting pretty ripe?
  22. what a whopper - judging by the motion blur it looks like she pushed it
  23. glad you didnt take my piece to be negative. you really could get an ecologist to walk round with you for an hour or two to give suggestions. it does seem that where previously long-standing established coppicing programmes are reinstated the relevant wildlife can return to these unique habitats but too many think that coppicing is intrinsically good imo. I would take out most of the leylandii, leave deadwood as much as possible, standing and stacked and take what you feel is right of the livewood. Perhaps vary in age and species what you take and where you do fell open enough to allow light and regeneration. Deer can ruin regeneration and brambles can flourish when you open up the canopy. stacking a few branches to protect regrowth helps. Some of the most valuable trees to wildlife wont be the most healthy - cavities, deadwood etc - so dont always cut down the unhealthy ones. A varied age structure is good. Have you got any more land adjacent you could plant up? Just my thoughts - you could ask your local council countryside rangers or parks team for advice? Good luck
  24. i dont care which as long as its sharp! quite like the hook on the end of the sugoi though. as rob said about the small stuff though but i sometimes just snap ends off with my chunky thumbs
