  1. You would use the 4wd with the hubs unlocked (so essentially it gives you the '2L' option) if you were shunting a heavy trailer on tarmac or any high traction surface so as to potentially avoid transmission wind up or damage. I for one use that option quite alot.
  2. well reading those comments Spud hopefully means you would like my 084av to arrive at yer loony toon(ing) emporium soon for some serious porting, muff modding and maybe an ignition advancement....xx
  3. this is a great thread.
  4. this was up recently, i pondered it but decided on a new chipper instead! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Vario-814D-4x4-Crew-Cab-Tipper-/122959075748?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=x31pTc4CCusOiQOLNDanzguy%2FN0%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
  5. Hello, can u elaborate some more please on how you avoid the O licence please?
  6. How ya porky, i don't know to be honest. I can usually fix them (green or black) as i have about 10 old ones that i can use to make up a good one. I only bought this black one as it was so cheap including delivery.
  7. Dunno if these are as good as the older versions but I get these in green or black off Ebay. £7.99 including p&p.
  8. they are rubbish, apparently they swell up and stick and cause problems. I stripped it a few times to no avail so i stripped the guts out of it and modified it to a straight pour type. The older Husky cans had black or green spouts which were a bit better but are easier to fix.
  9. grand spot.
  10. what part of Loch Garman are yer folks originally from Mick?
  11. It'd be a Hyundai Santa Fe for me as i reckon the 4x4 system is more robust over the Freelander.
  12. savage money!
  13. too right Matt, Us posh chaps have gotta stick together yeah...
  14. good scram there Bill, i have eaten dinner there a few times. I pointed it out to anudder Arbtalker on wednesday of this week as we drove south down the M5 after a visit to the Greenmech factory. He hasn't sampled the delights yet. The whole layout is indeed nice. I like the way the building is kind of hidden from the motorway.
  15. I'm fairly certain i saw one of those hydraulic Tirfors for sale in the last few week either on Facebook or Ebay.
  16. I have a 3200kg Tirfor which is not used too much but is very handy when required. They are a bit heavy and awkward to set up though. I would like to own an Eder power winch, the biggest one they do is rated to have a straight line pull of 1800kg or 3600kg when traction deflected using a snatch block pulley. I would only consider one that utilises a 2T engine though as some of the 4T engines automatically cut out if they tip to one side and starve the head of engine oil which would do my head in! Problem is they are over 2k new!
  17. it'll be nice when it's done but a Hiab will ate into yer weight limit, but seeing as yer In Eire ya prolly don't need an Operating licence or ya can get away without having one?
  18. he said we cud use them as we wished.
  19. check yer email Eggman.
  20. I was gagging to get out on the beer with yew guys but work got in the way. What i liked about today was what appeared to us visitors to be a massive effort on Greenmechs part seemed easy peasy for them. The delivery was gently informative and nicely casual without information and stats overload. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to understand, adapt and implement the 'Lean' manufacturing process. It was good to see various people including management stopping by to introduce themselves and chew the fat. Big thanks to PeteB, Martin and everyone else at GM HQ for the hospitality. Them 2 gurls on reception were nice too huh! Regards, Ken
  21. Timmy, can you message me your contact address details please as i may be able to help.
  22. amen to that. I feel sorry for the guy, we all make bad decisions and mistakes. I think he's an Arbtalker.
  23. hard to tell from the pics but is there obvious signs of 'pulpy' decay?
  24. I would imagine there will be a light on the dash to indicate you have shifted in 4x4. My old dog errr Isuzu has a similar setup.
  25. drive it into a muddy field and stick it in 4L, engage 1st gear and see if one or both of the front wheels is spinning? Does the front axle have manual hubs that means you hafta get out of the truck and manually engage them first loike?
