    My dog is old now, i take her odd now and again in the cooler months but not mid summer. She is happy to stay in the van and sleep.

    First off, Clarkson for PM, thats what i say. Once you have cut thru the crap and the jest, he is actually a very smart guy, and he says some very valid points. secondly, i believe that apart from the basic state pension(about £100 per wk ?)all other pensions should be private. I dont see why a company( private or public) should be made to hand out, make up or whatever, pensions for their employees. We are grown ups, we should be able to provide for ourselves. In my mind everyone of us is reponsable for our own well being, who you work for should not make any difference. Just like the dolies, if you dont want to work, fine, just dont expect a paycheck at the end of the week. As for those that did strike, if it was down to me, they would be disaplined for not carrying out their duties as expected.

    I also did yts in joinery for the local council, this in turn , turned into an apprenticeship. But due to other issues i left the council afterwards and went into other things. But i still think there is room for another yts scheme to help both young people who want to learn and businesses to grow. Pete, i also agree with your statement, found out today that my wifes uncle has just got a council bungalow in a posh village where if you were to buy the property it would be at least 220k, he has only ever worked for 2yrs his whole life (hes in his fifties now). He says he deserves this place, as everyone should be able to live wherever they like,regardless of whether they work or not.

    I'm 41 now, wont slow down, still work out 3 or 4 times a week, work 6 days a week when need to, and feel more comfortable in my own body now than ever before. Does help that my wife is 10 years younger than me.

    No RA or MS will state it is ok to work at height without harnesses. If it does, then imo at the very least the person who wrote it doesnt derserve their job, and if i was employing this company to do work for me, then i would get rid and get new company in.

    Apart from usual transport and tractor mags, i'm reading Bear Grylls Autobiography, its a good read, then waiting for me after that are books by Stephen Fry, Jeremy Clarkson and Jimmy Doherty. I love buying books, just need to find time to make some shelves to put them on.

    I regularly end up behind either a hgv or a tractor due to where i live. I also drive hgv's periodicly, and want to learn tractor driving, i am also a cyclist. All it takes is a senseable approach from everyone to make the roads safer. If i'm behind a tractor i just sit back and relax until it is safe for me to overtake. We have both got somewhere to go and we both want to get there in one piece so whats the rush, i know he is going as fast as he can. Hgv's, have different speed limits on all roads compared to cars, ie single carrage roads is 40mph, cars dont give a damn, as they can go at 60, this is not the hgv drivers fault so why hassle him. I currently work with a guy that refuses to drive at more than 55 on a motorway, and dispises wagon drivers, he is dangerous to other road uses. Everyone is always in a rush these days, personnally i'd rather be 10 mins late than get irate at another driver who is just doing his job.

    same here, hard work, blood , sweat and tears, still small, but thats the way i like it. My money is still mine at the end of the day.

    I have used saws for the last 20 years without any training. I use the saws for my own firewood. I only use a 14" bar. I service my own saw and sharpen them, normally in the past i'd normally but macculloch etc. But after being a member on here for a while now, i know that i am probably doing a few things wrong still and could do with a few pointers, therefore i am looking towards doing a course. It may not be the full monty cs30 / 31 but defo the lantra equivellent at the minimum, therefore i'd say any training is better than none.

    Hi welcome to the forum, your probably looking at a ms180, or something, but dont just look at the stihl / husky range, have a look at the makita range as well.

    the other year, i looked after a couple of nursing homes for a doctor until he closed them down. Did building maintainence and gardens for him. I'm kicking myself for not leaflet dropping as i'm surrounded by nursing homes where i live. Might do some early in new year, see how i get on.

    my missus starts her nurse training in january. I used to carry a tub of putty in my first aid kit.

    i heard about this on the way home from work.Apparently it was an accident on the ground of some sort. As always, thoughts and prayers to the guys family.

    have a look at the makita range, they are a lot cheaper than stihl / husqvarne, but make a good solid saw. But please buy some safety clothing, and look into some sort of training first. Your local college should be able to help.
