  1. Hi all, the guy that looked at my pc has tried running salvage software etc and got nothing. The pc refused to boot up for some reason. When he put some software on to try to get it to boot and then list problems, he said the hard drive had been failing for some time and in the end became so corrupted it just had a dicky fit so to speak and became so corrupted it couldnt operate. I'm going to get an external hard drive and back everything up to that. I have just started a college course and bought a new laptop for the course. I too dont trust cloud, hence going to invest in a external hard drive.
  2. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, didnt know where to put it Just a reminder everyone to make sure you consistently back up your pc. Tonight i have learned that my old pc that i have used for years, has failed. The hard drive has wiped itself and i have lost over 15 years of work. This includes photos of my wedding, my kids from birth, my beloved dog that i sadly lost 2 years ago, documents, etc, you name it, i have lost it. I know this is my own fault for not backing things up, and this has been a costly and upsetting experience. So please, please, learn to back up your pc. i am sat here is disbelief and dispair. So whilst you would rather be outside using shiney new tools, (like i do ) please be aware that your pc is also a valuable tool for your business, and needs to be treated as such. Thanks.
  3. I did have a look but i've forgot what it were. It was either a post knocker, but i think it was a log splitter, as the farmer whos field it was in, had a load of bagged up logs in storage.
  4. Thats a smart looking set up john.
  5. Not mine, but two i came across on a walk today. They belong to an estate not too far away from me. They have been on logging duty.
  6. When i was younger i used to think about being a paramedic. But know i'm sort of rediscovering my adventures youth, and would love to be a cross between bear grylls and steve backshall.
  7. Isn't tanaka the same as hitachi, or have i got it wrong ????
  8. Hi and welcome. My dad runs a little husqy 135 on the type of stuff you have, and its a cracking little saw. However I'm with the dolmar crew on here. I have a little ps3500 (bought from shavey on here) and that too is a little cracker, or like others have said, you could go for the 4200 instead. Both are more than capable for what you want. cheers.
  9. Hi nepia, what is a realistic capacity for the eliet.
  10. Thanks for the comments guys. Turtlewood, yes your right, the security is a headache on it, especially as i want it to be able to be opened by the kids. The castors came as a lightbulb moment, when i was struggling to keep moving the base by its self.
  11. hi agri, only got the milwaukee kit at xmas, but already i'm hooked on their stuff. I would have no hesitation ( and probably will do) in buying more of their gear. cheers.
  12. Started this project for myself about easter time, and just got round to finishing it. Its for the bikes etc. The base is made from tanalised 3x2, the main frame from 3x2cls cladded in 3/4 half lap i sawed up from planks. Its that big and heavy i put caster wheels on the bottom for ease of movement. cheers:thumbup:
  13. Hi eggs, how is pat, he helped me when i first joined here. has he still got that green suzuki sj ?
  14. Dolly all the way. I also just use mine for home firewood and i have two saws. I have a dolly ps3500 and a mak 9010 beast. Complete ends of the spectrum, but i love em.
  15. Hi, I fancy having a go at making some clocks. For those of you that make clocks, where do you get your movements, hands, dials etc from. Have been scouring the web for ages and still carnt tell the difference between all the different movements apart from a great variation in price. I will be making them out of 9,12 and 18mm mdf, for now just to try different ideas that i have. What size spindles on the movements do i need for each of the the above thicknesses of mdf do i need. Any info at all is much appreciated. Thanks.
  16. My latest toy. I decided to go with machine mart, as it suited my budget, ease of buying etc. Not used it yet, but looking forward to trying it out. Can anyone recommend some good books for patterns etc. Cheers.
  17. Cheers woodworks. i'm thinking about getting a cheapo real xmas tree and using that for the antlers. What do people find best for the eyes ?
  18. Hi chaps. I really fancy having a go at making some of these this year. Where do i start ? eg how big do i make them, length of body/head, height of legs, etc. Also in some pictures people have used some thing like a teddy bear eye, where do you get these, also how do i attach a ping pong ball for a nose ? Sorry for the daft questions, just want to get stuck in and make some. Cheers.
  19. You carnt go wrong dealing with shavey. I've bought from him before, he really is a top notch guy to deal with.
  20. I love my makita 9010. Paid about £700 new last xmas for it. Dont use it much and it is a bit overkill for me, but my god its fun to use.
  21. Cheers for the replies guys. I'm going to go with a scroll saw. Just weighing up which one, have got about £100 for one. I am fancying a clarke one from machinemart at the moment. Also just been looking at the pyrography threads,so might get a kit to try that as well, or a get a flexi drive for the dremel and try that.
  22. Hi and welcome to the forum. I am one of many makita/dolmar fans on here. I had the 4300 model until recently. It was a really nice saw to both hold and use with plenty of grunt. I did my cs31 with it. Only got rid of it a few months ago due to it breaking down and after spending some money on it to get it going again, decided to trade it in and get a new dolmar from shavey off here.
  23. Hi all I'm wanting to get a either a small bandsaw or a scroll saw, but dont know which to go for. First off it has to be cheap, so i'm basically looking at machine mart/ scewfix etc. I'm just looking at bench top models as space is short and its going to be used as a experiment and voyeur in small craft making. Secondly its going to be used for making small decorations, name plates, clock faces, templates etc. I was thinking at first to get a scroll saw, for the tight curves etc. But, would a small tabletop bandsaw also be able to do the tight curves and also give me the chance to cut thin material in a straight line without me having to get my table saw out which is overkill for small thin material. I know we all say avoid the cheap stuff but sometimes we have no option, so please dont tell me to get a big workshop machine as that option is a total non starter. So, opinions please. Thanks.
  24. My mate is onto his 3rd, whilst his dad has has a freelander. The jeep wins hands down in his opinion. I had a look at the new Renegade last week at the yorkshire show, and i fell in love with it straight away.
  25. TCD bet me to it. Pm shavey.
