  1. Only asking, as i've worked in a few different industries over the years including the building trade, road maintenance and the wastewater industry and i've never known it before
  2. Did you have time to take a run around yet zeroluke, if so how did you get on?
  3. what wood are you selling is it hardwood/softwood or a mix of both?
  4. pretty much the same has hullsmill, never cut a tree for financil gain, just a plain old firewood merchant, most of the guys on here would cry with laughter if they saw the set up we have.
  5. Now then Glyn welcome aboard
  6. Like i said in my earlier post go and have a drive around a few farms so you can speak face to face, also take a business card with your details on it looks more profesional than scribbling your number down on a fag packet. alot of farmers are dubious about renting out sheds/barns bits of land as they have be stitched up in the past, one local to me rented out a large barn to some lads who filled it floor to ceiling with tyres then disappeared leaving him with the cost of getting rid of the tyres, so even though he as got empty barns he will no longer rent them out. Another thing is tell whoever you speak to that you are willing to pay the rent by direct debit, this then shows you are genuine and not a fly by night. Hope this helps.Egg
  7. Mark are you on about the fact that he has priced the job wrong? or that he has''nt got a company name? or the fact that tommo is trying to bite off more than he can chew? Tommo dont take it all to heart we've all made mistakes pricing jobs but let this be a lesson.
  8."Insolvent" if he's not careful:lol:
  9. This one gets better by the minute:laugh1:
  10. I'm not a tree surgeon, but i'd be suprised if any tradesman would work for a oner a day monday to friday never mind on a weekend, the old saying is any fool can work for nothing, your prices need to go up me thinks.
  11. Andy i dont doubt what you are saying, but how can it be that i can buy processor size mixed hardwood for £30+vat per tonne roadside within an hour and half away from home, and you are about an hour away from me and your price is nearly double that? i'm not having a dig i'm just curious.Egg
  12. Hi Charlie i,ve just paid £30 per tonne roadside for mixed hardwood oak, silver birch and a small amount of ash, im on the Suffolk/Essex border, hope this helps. Egg.
  13. Take a drive around all the local farms in your area, dont be put of by the knock backs, there will be a farmer out there who as something suitable for what you need, when i moved to my new yard it took me nearly a year to find what i needed but when i did find my new yard it was alot cheaper than i expected to pay.
  14. I'm sure you're right about removing the barriers, but that would mean everyone having to have a dart tag or some other way of paying the toll charge, which for the forseeable future will be in place. Dont lets kid ourselfs that if DRC passed the bridge over to the government tomorrow, that the toll would be done away with.
  15. The reason other toll roads work is that they dont carry any where near the volume of traffic as DRC and thats why we queue. Also, we have seen a massive increase in the number of left-hand-drive lorries on our roads since the crossing was built and the drivers have to get out of their lorries to pay at the kiosks which holds us up even more. Like you say Mark, you can always save your money and go the long way round through Blackwall, but i know which way i would go even if it does mean queueing.
  16. Yes you are right in part, there was a concession that the construction company would have 20 years to re-coup the money they spent building the crossing, but what private company would build a bridge just to recoup their costs and not make a profit there after? The bridge was not built out of tax payers money. No other business works just to cover its costs. I know that the DRC as made alot more than its cost but the deal was 20 years ownership before it was handed back to the government which i believe should end this year as the bridge was completed in 1991. And also, lets remember that the bridge is in reality the best maintained part of the m25. I can vouch for this as I worked on all parts of the London orbital for many years.
