  1. Thanks Big J. Excuse my ignorance, I gather pulp wood is just lower grade wood? Ideal for fire wood. I will contact Scottish Woodland and see if they can give me a quote. My first quote was 48 a tonne delivered but the timber has been felled for over a year so lower moisture content. If buying freshly felled for say (28+10 for delivery).....by volume, would it not be comparable? Do people offer quotes by volume rather than weight?
  2. Thanks for the info guys. I need to check if that includes VAT. We do have the room, that is not really a problem. We can store about a years worth inside and then the rest remains outside till it is split. We normally burn about 15 - 20 cube a year. It heats non commercial greenhouses. We are just outside Kilmarnock. Now we are going to run out in 2015 season, we are just trying to work out if it better to convert to electricity or buy in wood. Cheers MarkieBoy
  3. Hi Guys, Here are our piles ready for splitting. The split stuff is inside. Cheers MarkieBoy
  4. Hi guys, We have never had to buy firewood. We have been very lucky and been able to source from local estate (dead and windblown with permission). That is unfortunately running out and in the next year we will have to purchase our wood. Does £1200 for an artic load (softwood) delivered sound a fare price in the central belt of Scotland? (48 per tonne approx) Cheers Markieboy
  5. Hi Central, Did you have any joy finding someone local to supply wood direct from the forest? I am looking for a price to delivery a full artic of wood (type not important) to Ayrshire. Cheers Markieboy
  6. I ordered mine direct from Amazon.com It took less than 4 days from US

  9. Hi Guys, I was running my Husqvarna 576XP yesterday. It was a hot day (yes even in Scotland) and I was working on a really old wind blown oak which was very dry and hard. When I took the oil cap off, it give a nice hiss and the oil was bubbling away. I know the oil tank is next to the muffler but should the oil get that hot? Never seen this in 15 years of using saws. Regards Mark
  10. Thanks for your replies. I will look into this place near Dundonald. I used to live there so I think I know the one. It is only around 4m3 of chestnut but there is other stuff as well. Normally it is split by hand. My dad heats his greenhouses with a wood burner. I bring in the wood (cut to length) and then he splits it in his own time. However he has recently been told he has a heart problem and the surgeon told him no more axe work. I would split it myself, actually I enjoy it, but I simply don't have the time to bring in the logged wood and then split by hand. I would love to but I travel for my job and I have a wife/family who might object to me spending every weekend at my dads.
  11. Hi Guys, I am wondering if anyone knows where I can hire a log splitter. I am looking for hire of machine only and not operator (if indeed this is possible). Thanks in advance. Regards Mark
