  1. So one assumes, if the op goes ok, you'll be using the saw two handed henceforth
  2. Are you sure they weren't trying to sell a pair of plums with their wood and got mixed up with their syntax and posted on the wrong site too?
  3. Another poplar

  5. Are you and all the other processors on here going to pay for membership? All associations have a cost. Another £300-600 per year. Government sure as .... aren't going to fund it.
  6. Are they in the ground or pots? Do they have the same position in the garden, i.e. sunlight, water etc?
  7. The reason the employer has gone down this route is that they were at odds with employment law and risked being challenged for tax evasion. As has been stated on this thread and many others previously, if a person works for a day rate under the supervision of the employer or an employee, they are technically employed and have the same rights as an employee. Many companies, large and small, across many industry sectors, have been using the self-employed model for years to avoid tax, NI and the usual employer costs. This makes their business model cheaper and more flexible. HMRC have recognized the loop-hole and tightened their definition. Whether from purely fiscal reasons or perhaps a hint of employee protection is a moot point. The fact remains that the conventional 'self-employed' business model for companies is shown to be on the edge of, if not completely into, the realms of tax evasion, (individual cases such as your own notwithstanding). It is, perhaps, why the trend for zero hours contracts started.

  9. And lock it so no-one could get it out. Or substitute the chain for a knotted rope:scared1:
  10. We have one, though not Cat4 and Genny. On big commercial sites we ask for very exact underground service plans. On Skanska sites we have to wear flameproof overalls for grinding in case of flashover
  11. :proud:I thought it looked ok
  12. At least he's wearing a harness and hard hat
  13. They'll have to store it for a while. It'd be a shame, but it does make good firewood. How much would it sell for as firewood? That is then your minimum starting bid from one or other of the cabinet makers.
  14. A decent chain, Boron/steel, will stop the opportunists. The, rather long and not working, link was for extreme metal cutting reciprocating saw blades, which, at $560 each, one would expect to make short work of most things. It's what they used on us, so the police said.

Assuming the link works.
  16. Protector Police-Approved and Sold Secure-Approved Security Chains direct from Pragmasis, the manufacturer
  17. Transit crew cab chip box. Buy a big TV from your local supplier and use the box as a template. That way you'll stay within the legal carrying capacity for the truck.
  18. Speak to your local NRSWA department. They're usually a bit more switched on and have an operational mindset, rather than office based bods.
  19. Surfaced footpaths are generally considered part of the highway. As such they are subject to highways regs. Space is rarely booked though.
  20. It looks like the tree has been heavily reduced historically so re-reduction should be ok. With a cavity that size and happy fungus I'd say it's the beginning of the end for the tree. It can be nursed for a while, though Horse Chestnuts are not that robust.
  21. Leg work, persistence and consistency of work delivery. Identify the type of work/customer you want and then go after it. Target specific clients and you'll be far more likely to get a hit. For example; If you see that Exxon PLC, (made up name for the purposes of surreal humour) carries out a lot of grounds maintenance in your area, go and speak to them about yourself and your values. Ask for an opportunity to carry out works for their clients. Ask what quals, paperwork they require to get onto their approved list and go out of your way to supply them with the information. When we (and this is a general we, in any industry, not me in particular, or even in treework.), work for anyone we are representing their brand, personal or corporate. If we abuse the trust they place in us by not protecting their brand they're less likely to use us again. There are many ways to damage the trust and many ways to build it. If you are established you should have an element of local brand recognition, ask you friends for contacts to make with the companies you wish to work with. A warmed up referral is far better than a cold call.
  22. What he said. The Garmin, brand new, in my Mitsubishi, is very poor. The 6 year old Tom-Tom I was using before was better than it. Now have the go600 and link it to phone to get live traffic. Paid for itself many times over. As the traffic is shocking around here now with all the roadworks and daily accidents I even use it on short local journeys.
  23. That's a watering tube!
  24. Is it near a beer tent? Most of the guys are up on Saturday. Bringing a minibus.
