  1. its the same everywhere i'm afraid.... work is thin on the ground in some places
  2. is this what you tell the customer when you go round to look at the job/quote? Its "X" amount and so much to take away the wood..... i thought most customers would want you to either take the wood and clear up appropriatly, or on more frequent occasions they now keep it for themselves, but i didn't think you'd be able to charge to remove it..... Round here, they try to drive the price down with it... of which i refuse to lower the price and explain just what processing into firewood is really like....
  3. just mix a little bit in then? There are somethings in this industry which can be put to good use and somethings that are a pain to shift it seems??
  4. you learn something new everyday cheers
  5. Afternoon all Just after some advice really.... I'm 21 and really keen and a hard worker. I've got cs 30-31-32-38-39-40-41-45 of which i paid for all my self, truck, chipper etc all own climbing gear and all own saws currently self employed I live near skipton and thats the north west..... work is thin on the ground (few of my own jobs and do sub to others but theyre quiet...) and the area is fairly saturated with tree surgeons..... I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to approach companies to offer services as a climber or even a groundy.... (obvioursly the truck and chipper isn't worth mensioning when going "Freelance" so to speak) I've tried a few companies to no avail..... i have practical skills but have no real theoretical skills. I'd even go in as an apprentice to learn all the theoretical side of things but no one out there will give you a chance... What can i try?? or how do i approach etc cheers for any help in advance
  6. I have a stihl hs80 hedge trimmer.... i bought a while back and used it once or twice and leant it to someone...... and i swear ever since i leant it to this chap it takes ages to start!! pretty sure it wasn't like that before it went! I can pull it over for 12-14 times and have to play with choke on off to get it running.... its a single screw adjustment carb..... wound it all the way in and then back 1.... when running its mint and turn it off..... starts first time Just fitted a new plug today also 064 av..... Looks to have had new pistona and pot but takes a fair few pulls to start 12 ish.... fitted new plug today and easy pull start.... It was low on fuel till topped up but i'm sure when cold it will be a pain in the arse again! Again, runs like a champ!! and can stop and re start no problems..... not sure what to think, i was thinking impulse line?? but when running it'd run rubbish if impulse line was cracked.... What else can it be? Fuel filter?? although would show signs when running... stumped

  13. that pulley and dead eye sling combo would be good if it was ever in stock!!!! ebay seem's very good prices all othere are like 44 + vat  shame i didn't get some of that 14mm lowering rope when you did lol jammy bugger
  14. most likely going to get a 14mm so a 5/8 dead eye will be ok
  15. Good spot, 2 of them should suffice for a starter kit i would have thought?? one for pullet then one for the base of the tree on the friction device?? ahhhhh 5/8 16mm hmmmmmm was going to use the stein rc2000 friction device and medium cast pulley.... obv not knocking massive lumps out but would the 19mm be better......
  16. Evening all, Just a quick querie...... where does everyone get there dead eye slings from?? For attatchment of pulley also friction device I take its a case of shop around due to the prices of them?? Cheers
  17. there arn't many more bargins left on ebay anymore with regards to chainsaws etc.... its usually trhe place for people to get rid of there old machines for good money.... there are now and again a few bargins to be had though, but i would be very wary......
  18. i'm afraid that your area is saturated with loads of tree workers.... both in and out of yellow pages No wonder there's not much work round here...
  19. no but these things are out there to help and help you to become more efficient...... i don't want to behip thrusting all the time.... all that exertion when there are systems out there to provide less friction etc..... whats the point being pre historic??
  20. exactly, this is what i said at the start : "what i'm thinking of is what friction hitch/setup to go for"
  21. i'll have to have a look, probabilly just the leather as theyre very tight to get in!!
  22. i still put the 200t into the saw ring at the back but i have a crab at each side of my hip so i can just pull the saw up and clip it up whilst moving around..... then i just clip all the rest of my gear to them red straps at the back (tape slings etc)
  23. what size of friction cord would be used with my climbing line which is a yale xtc for the hitch climber 8mm or 10mm??
