  1. Yeah, just been to pick my van up from the job. paced out some big beech on the road side, they were 8 paces. Going to have to measure it properly i think rather than paces... you just drive down and think, it wants a heck of a lot of tree's compaired to what i first thought!
  2. not as a hedge but individual tree's, will be managed. thats why i was thinking 15 yards to centres. Maybe 10 yards.... gives crown dia at 20 ft for instance. 10 ft radius from each tree and 10 ft gap between tips of crown..... that sounds better? or am i miles out...
  3. Hi there, i've been asked to plant a row of tree's down the side of a lane. Walked it and it approx 135 yards. Tree's are going to be maples i think. one crimson king then 2 green then another crimson king, that kind of pattern... Planting distances is what i'm thinking about! I was thinking 15 yards initially, but on second thoughts seems like too far apart. Just trying to make sure the tree's have enough room. Any suggestions? oh, 3.5 - 4 metre tree's 12-14cm girth
  4. can accomodation be sorted?

  14. Hi there, Just wanting to know where to go to get some prices on some insurance to go on the road. I'm only 23 and nfu only deal with 25 + Any suggestions? Cheers Chris
  15. yeah still do this, although have changed to a 5m split tail insead of the 3.5m one. I have 37m rope for most stuff, 10m rope for smaller tree's when no point coiling up the excess metre of rope + carrying it etc!! and the 5 m one 5m split tail is about 20 or 25 quid from f r jones and son
  16. Thankfully nothing on the bench at the moment Sure the 200t is still playing up with the needing choking to start after turning off but its ok and earns me loads!! Just sold 2 saws aswell so feel better Maybe the answer is to sell them all
  17. One thats not been said yet is the 024! If kept sharp is a belter of a saw! I have 2 of these and they're brilliant! One day doing some conifer bashing was using the stihl ms261, when that ran out of fuel, was passed the 024 fueled up. My god what a weight saving! Felt so much better! Don't discount it! 024's are bit cheaper than the 026 and are professional saws!
  18. When i was taught i didn't use a main strop/side strop, i used a 3.5mtr split tail and used this as a second line. So when you throw your main line to branch 1 and you get up there, you don't have to used side strop around branch, waste time and then unhook main line, waste time and throw main line up to branch 2. You can use main line to branch 1, then throw little line up to branch 2, dissconnect main and prussik up to branch 2. Only use side strop/flip line for take downs thats it.
  19. sit back and keep your hands off your rope or clutching your friction hitch, look around, realise i don't need to keep hold of my rope all the time, trust your rope
  20. your right its crap
  21. I run one. If its a crew cab they are crap for ground clearance!!! Cost me roughly 130 for the new fuel tank and 70 ish for fuel and filters etc.... My 2.8 is flat and i prefer my ldv 2.5td transit engine for power and pulling...
  22. Think of the money..... erm sorry, once you've set up your line/saftey system your away, and after you've been in the tree a little time it gets easier to go further out etc..... You know what you have to do and concentrate on the job If its a big one and your taking it down and your getting to the end of the day, all your bothered about is doing what needs to be done to get it down. And in the end you get paid
