  1. Maybe theyve read an economics book and found the chapter on 'Giffen' goods.
  2. When was she last loler tested???? If you look closely (steady) you might see the included bark!
  3. It was the fact that he was so pleased that his son was among the 95% (or whatever the figure is) of the population who are NOT criminals. Like skyhuck said - he was setting the bar low - he just sees law breakers and law-adherers. Man.... did he have blinkers on.
  4. I havent read all the posts so maybe someone has made this point alread (apologies if you have) - It seems to fit somewhere between the top quality hand saws and the MS200t. It can't be used for an all day reduction due to battery cost - fair enough. BUT I've just counted my old discarded silky blades and there were 87. 87 x the £24.00 (or whatever they are now) would buy a few batteries and chains. Its the sharpening and continued use of the chains over the hand saws that I think tip the balance. Now I'm going to go off and do lots of sums and I suspect I'll be giving Jonesie a call soon. Shane
  5. I think they did the right thing in this case. Not saying there are no bad-uns (someone in my family was stitched up years back) but they have a hard job which must have an effect on them - either that or only a certain type will want to join the force. Yes we are all their customers but most of the people they meet are (or may be) law breakers. In my days as a safety trainer (yes, before I got a real job) we had a retired copper working on the team. One day he said (and I remember it word for word) 'The thing I am most proud of in my life is that my son grew up without becoming a criminal' That comment killed the conversation. Good to see them out there trying.
  6. Those things are amazing. Do they come under loler or NASA regs?
  7. If they continue to breed at the current rate we will have to make sure we wear our helmets at all times.
  8. Is that per week - or was that it?
  9. McCulloch do some really cheap T shirts but......
  10. John - now I know what happened to all the trees at Chanctonbury Ring! You naughty man.
  11. Glad your using the dishwasher not the washing machine.
  12. Theres a load of crud on there - always lots of optimistic domestic bods with no idea. It is amusing but hey.... nobody HAS to buy it -heres no law against trying
  13. One trip to the tip with an arb trolley!

    Auction

Sounds like it was a chance for peeps to meet up and observe stupidity. Did anyone on here get anything at sensible price? Last time we had an auction like that round our way (dear old John Cooper RIP) everything went for silly money - it seems to be the auction mentality 'I want it so I'll keep bidding'. Dozens of nomads appeared on the day too - though they had to be reminded to pay for stuff before they took it away - an easy misunderstanding.
  15. To balance things up I do have a list of 3 things which prevent the greenmech being 'perfect' - mine is a 16-23 by the way. 1. The a frame is too long (hence the comments above about chips falling short) 2. There is a vertical bulge welded on one side of the infeed hopper which means you have to work around it when feeding brush - its a strengthening piece but should be OUTSIDE the hopper. 3. I wish it had a diesel level indicator - you have to fold the hopper down to check the level. I don't know if any of these have been addressed with the quadchip. Maintenance wise its easy and it has only blocked up once in 3 years and that was with cordyline. I've found it brilliant - and I'm not on commission!
  16. Round these parts it's not good to admit you've been converted to a bandit. Easily mis-interpreted statement :lol:
  17. I used to use an old chain file, pointy (handle) end sharpened on the bench grinder then a 45 degree bend set in it - home made dentist pick. Worked fine. TWs are OK - but once you've used a better chipper how many would go back to them? Maybe some but not me (this is just an opinion, before the tw fan club goes ballistic)
  18. I service it myself, no problems. Blades are a doddle compared to TW. I get 30 hrs chipping time (that is flat out at a very productive rate) before having to turn the disc blades round 120 degrees. That means 90 hours between blade changes! A 2 man crew will put about 2- 3 hours on the machine each week. Yes it don't seem like much but we probably do 10 -15 mtrs/week
  19. The annual diesel consumption may just be a small part. You are right to ask about service costs. I had a timberwolf and converted to Greenmech - glad I did. That's just my opinion. Mo doubt there are many wolfies on here who would dispute my view. Keep on top of the flywheel bearings - first hint of noise and change them before they wear the flywheel shaft. No other issues really. TWs have been popular for a long time. Just be careful. Running costs of my greenmech have been stupidly low, its a 34hp motor and I recon its 3 times quicker with any pile of brash - that makes it cheaper. And the blades last a lot longer.
  20. Good value - theres nowhere they will not go and if you have popeye arms there is no limit to stump size (it just takes gallons of sweat when you do hard stumps over 3ft diam.) As for value - the next machine size up (20hp+ pedestrian machines) will set yopu back 6k or more so I'd say go for it. My SG13 rayco (almost identical) cost me £2.5k 10 years ago and it still earns me money.
  21. Thats the only way to stop your bike getting stolen in Sussex. If he went to war (after riding that bike) they must have been recruiting them very young!
  22. It depends what they find wrong. The best thing to do is grill the specialists on the pros and cons of it. The human body is amazing at repairing itself or adapting to injuries where you find other ways of doing things - you just need a clear understanding of what is wrong, if it will eventually fix itself (maybe if you build up the right muscles with specific exercises). Everyone is different so without knowing all the details can only suggest good talk with the medics.
  23. So the amount of effort for a professional job is irellevant. Its just a case of what some google-eyed, safety-oblivious dickpiece has come up with?? I'll punt for £750 + the timber and we'll keep ouor fingers crossed. Good for you for sticking to your guns - now the weathers warming up those phones will be ringing more and more - don't chase the 'ow much?' jobs concentrate on the good uns, they'll come along.
