  1. Heard our first one on Monday at Pulborough Brooks RSPB centre.
  2. It just goes to show - you should always respect your elders.
  3. It's a very good piece of kit - and bl@@dy expensive. Everyone I know who has one is outrageously knowledgable. The view is that you need tons of experience/knowledge to fully understand what the picus shows you, and if you are charging for the advice then you must really be on the ball. I'm not questioning your knowledge/experience - it's probably worth using a picus owner's full service and let their professional Indemnity insurance cover any claims resulting from the advice they give. My local Picus man is happy to supply an excellent service, better than I could. So that's what I do. Just the ramblings of an ageing arb-nut.. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  4. What do you want it for? I bought a Peugeot expert last year - it was one with a wheelchair ramp (I use it for my stump-grinder) and I've never had any problems with it. The wheelchair conversions are generally much lower mileage, well looked after and cheaper to buy. I guess the same would be true of the Citroen and Fiat equivalents. Remember a lot of people on here think anything other than a unimog is only for pink shirted Brighton residents - if it will work for you - get one.
  5. Why would an honest person selling something want to insist on delivering it? If he is happy for you to go and view it why couldn't he let you pay for it and pick it up. Only one reason.....
  6. Have you spoken to the guy you bought it from? It doesn't sound as if it was accurately described - or have I misunderstood?
  7. The best thesaurus options seem to be Impedance or restriction. Not so easy to get right on the risk assessment though. There must be something better.
  8. Best bet would be to get hold of a flywheel from another make, then put the rest of the 'other make' chipper around it - that's the only way to solve this much publicised issue - cos until TW re-design the central component it aint gonna go away. OK TW huggers - fire away!
  9. Why do so many tree folk refer to things below trees as targets? Thinking of sheds, greenhouses, ponds etc. In my book a target is something to be aimed at - not a prospective write-off. Should they be referred to as something else? Anyone got a sensible suggestion? I can only think of 'Obstacle' but that's a bit boring,

    great saddnes

Tragic news - no words can relay feelings at such a time. Having lost a 21 year old family member and several young friends in the past I can only offer my condolences and say I do know how you feel. Try to stay as strong as you can but don't be affraid to cry - we all need to some time. I remember at one point feeling jeleous because everyone was just talking about the lost one. Time will NOT heal but helps everyone come to terms with it a bit more. Really feeling for you, Shane
  11. Lordy lordy - why would anyone want to see piccies of Street-people at it?? That's a hideous thought.
  12. Is the plan to crown lift them BY 3 mtrs or TO 3 mtrs. Regardless of the legality issues there is a very big difference. Out TOs insist on a specification which could be assessed after the work so I always have to specify, for example, crown lift TO 4 mtrs. Just a thought.
  13. Theres a guy round my way who has an ally tube extension - it looks a bit wierd but he doesn't have to do much cleaning up. I improvised once when I had to chip into a small van - i used a piece of 8 inch plastic gas main (slotted over the output fine and tucked over rear board in the van) no mess apart from a bit of leaf blowback. Go to a decent drainage dpecialist and find an offcut of suitable diameter. If it's angled slightly downwards and smooth enough you will be OK. The level of success will reduce with length, closeness to horizontal and wetness of chipping material. Well worth trying
  14. Please don't mention the ..itpart word - they even spell their name wrong. Most people who have bought their stuff will tell you it starts SH
  15. They are reputed to be the best - I know a couple of off-road nutters who use them. They are expensive but very good - not from experience but recommendation.
  16. Nature rules! That is real art.
  17. Luton is gorgeous this time of year.
  18. Not cheap - but the conditions/weather are not the organisers' fault. Nobody is forced to attend - if people like it then go have fun. I wouldn't go on the basis of cost/creature comforts but good luck to those who go! Last time I saw the Rolling Stones I could afford it as a student. I suspect their attendance will have upped the ticket prices, they are good but they aint cheap any more.
  19. We had the same plastic carb bit go on out Rayco (Honda 13hp motor) I guess its a standard fail? That was after 8 years of abuse though so not bad really.
  20. With interest rates low why not find out what loans will cost? Some of the manufacturers do pretty good loan deals (it helps them sell new machines). Finally - when youve got 8 or 9 cube mtrs of brash piled up in the road it's not a great time to find out what the previous owner meant by an occasional hiccup. Talk to the suppliers - they will want you to but a new one and they will help. Just make sure you avoid those who market themselves through ebay for under £7k
  21. Fantastic news. Congratulations! You can proudly walk about on air. It's a long time since I was in your shoes but - what a feeling. All the best and I hope you get some sleep in the next few weeks. Give it a month and you'll vow to never eat a peanut butter sarny again - you'll see. Christmas will now become a lot more special too. Enjoy!
  22. Now the weather has started to approach the beginning of the onset of spring I guess people have started to go into their gardens and realise things need doing. After a few calls at the weekend I've had four today already. Let's hope this is it. No silly pricing now - remember the overheads, professionalism etc. Have faith and get pricing. Hopefully here we go.......

What was likely to happen to prevent me from voicing my opinions? and what makes them dubious? NO I'm not from a military family - so what! Only 4 of the last 5 generations have been to war (not me). I'm still entitled to offer my opinion on the woman who sent these brave people to their deaths - as much for political gain as for the Falklanders. Now Mrs T has passed away we will never know the real balance behind the reasoning - we can only form opinions - these happen to be mine. I agree the Argies had some sophisticated weapons and a lot of our guys were lost or maimed. That's partly my point - it was the military bods who suffered, Margaret Thatcher just made a massive political advantage out of it. Watch Black Adder IV to make the point better than I can. I've nothing but admiration for those who fight - it just turns me over that it was done to gain political advantage for the Tories. Always was and always will be- Maybe not word for word but something like 'You lucky lads going over the top tomorrow - shame I can't be with you - still I'll be right behind you' quote General Melchett 'About 20 miles behind us' - quote Edmund Blackadder.

She sold the family silver so taxes could be reduced. So now our legacy is.. The French own most of the water utilities, Gas, telephone, railway, airport services etc. are run for maximum profit There are few council homes for the 'needy' You now have a better choice on health care (If you can afford it - go private) etc... We now pay less tax - but look at the education and health services. As for the Falklands - what a joke, Galtieri invaded the Falklands just as the tories popularitty was crumbling. She couldn't wait to go and destroy an easy enemy with all the chest-puffing empire talk that politicians rely on. I feel really sorry for the families of those who fell in that conflict - I don't recall MT suffering too much. She was a very strong and positive character - but so were Ghengis Khan and Hitler. Just my opinion. This is just my opinion
