  1. I'd invite him round for a face to face discussion. Tell him you'd be happy to explain any concerns he has and that it is free market - as long as there is no deception or mis-representation there is no problem. DO NOT offer to advise him on your business strategy (he is a competitor after all). He's an organ so rise above him and offer a diplomatic way forward. If it ever escalates you'll be able to show that youve been outrageously polite and HE has been a dick-head. Keep the moral hugh ground and continue with pride! Good luck
  2. We use ours about once a week (and more for hedges) it's priceless for relieving tension/compression on trees which have fallen and are leaning on something fragile (like a shed) where you want to cut a bit but don't want to be on it in case it drops all of a sudden. Also handy for branches 2 - 4 inches diam. which cannot be climbed to and are too big for the pruning pole set. You can also put a hedge trimmer on it to reach higher (but don't tell your supplier). Apparently the clutch system can't cope with the sudden stops you get with hedge trimmers when you hit a thicker branch). The chainsaw clutch prevents such problems when using it. Overall a great piece of kit for safe/non climbing work. We even use it in the tree in extreme cases. Get one!
  3. Testosterone replenishes itself - gloves cost money. No but really - i find gloves get in the way, easy to get trapped between prussic and main rope, makes operating karabiners more clunky. Now my knarly old skin has hardened up I prefer eau naturelle. When I reached 55 my hands were still OK - maybe I don't try hard enough
  4. Any offers for my helmet?
  5. How did you find that out????
  6. I can see how people come to feel like vigilantes. The problem is, we are NOT BRuce Willis or Clint Eastwood and this is NOT hollywood. From the moment after you have 'done' someone you will be in a state of awaiting vengeance. Why - the sort of @@@@ who behaves like these intruders/thieves etc. have their reputation amongst their peers to maintain. I know a shoe shop manager who refused to refund a nomadic scrap collector for a pair of boots he saw the guy steal earlier. As he was llocking up the shop that night he had both knee caps broken. Be angry by all means but be aware of what you might be starting. This aint Hollywood - its the UK (reality rather than fantasy)
  7. He's obviously a safety conscious guy.
  8. No feedback but does say collection possible - any guesses?
  9. As the title says really Timberwolf tracked wood chipper 150VTR | eBay
  10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Husqvarna-Chainsaw-372-XP-24-bar-Not-Stihl-/161040711652?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item257ec63fe4 How about this? Did you know removing the chain brake makes it work better?
  11. If I want something I google the service and my local town. I will then look at the first few NON-Broker ones to appear. Yell, check a trade etc all get ignored. I get plenty of enquiries direct through my web site to keep us busy. I also detest the sponge-brokers who bill you an amount per hit or enquiry - regardless. That just adds an unknown variable to your costs. Have faith in your web site. If you want to advertise elsewher you will receive loads of 'amazing' offers every week from companies who just need a tree surgeon in your area to complete their portfolio and all you have to pay is........ I get calls every year from people claiming to represent to fire brigade or the police with just one space left on next years wall planner - I work from Sussex so why have ads in every fire station in the UK? Bah humbug
  12. Why not send off for a NO NO NO sorry.. ignore that.... been done to death
  13. Very pleased for you - maybe there is a god after all.
  14. i think that whole organisation stinks. They lied to me for years over a number of things. When I look for a service or whatever on-line I type in whay I want and look at the 'direct' results. I will ignore broker-type sites because you just get another list and you know the people on there are paying extra for the privilege. It may work to get you higher on the google search (they all tell you it will) but if you design your website well - lots of discussions on here before - you can get yourself near the top of the 'real' list. YP/Yell waste of money. Just my opinion though - someone must use em.
  15. If you dont mind being in a tree with a belt full of lightning conductors then fine. Last time I was in a tree and I heard a rumble of thunder I recon I was on the ground by the time the rumble finished. Also - if you hear thunder you know that particular lightning strike must have missed you OR you've been zapped and survived it. Golf courses are another good place to be in a T. Storm
  16. It's the first place I go to when I'm on-line. It's so much more 'alive' than other forums. I belong to a couple of landrover ones and all you seem to get is bits for sale, pleadings for advice (which only get answered if the solution is obvious). The number and variety of posts here is excellent and the advice and banter is brilliant. Looking forward to putting faces to names at the arb show. (by the way - do you need to book a camping spot?) Long live the forum
  17. Interesting variety of views on this. If 'they' had known it was going to fail no doubt it would have been condemned and removed in a controlled manner. Had it been condemned what would the reaction have been based on the evidence available? Depends on what evidence had been collected I suppose. It does remind me of one piece of advice often given about suspect trees... (I think it's been mentioned on a couple of threads recently) 'Given the recent strong winds weve had it MUST be reasonable to climb, just be careful' On a pedantic note - the day before this tree fell (and many like it) we could have looked at it and said just that. I don't know nearly as much as a lot of the brainiacs on here but this shows that if and when you give advice - you gotta be 100% sure - specially if you charge for the advice.
  18. I second 'enemy at the gates' If I feel a bit down then Life of Brian. The Shooter. been on lots lately The shootist (John Wayne)
  19. So.... the aardvark emerges from the custard swamp.
  20. Amazing state of mind! I suspect everybody on here has the PHYSICAL attributes to do that. It's the MENTAL side of what is (or isn't) below. Frightening enough just to watch - Bet he doesn't bother with risk assessments!
  21. My understanding is that you can have up to 2450kg on the front axle when fully loaded, or up to 3700kg on the rear axle fully loaded (but not both at the same time or you exceed the 5500 total limit). Regardless of total loaded weight you cannot exceed either axle limit, even if the total is well below 5500kg So - you could have 2450kg on the front and 3050 on the rear (total 5500) or 3700 on the rear and 1800 on the front. or just about any combination in between where the total is under 5500kg. As stated above if you want to have a bespoke set up you'd need to see what axle weights you have as a chassis cab and take it from there. I hope I got my maths right
  22. Any sort of tinny clattering can be heard - especially on run-down when the engine revs drop. Any change in sound from 'the usual' and its time to check. If you hear it - check the flywheel. Worth checking every time you change the blades. You can use a lever between casing and flywheelto see if there is movement.
  23. MS200 Light, good power to weight ratio. Fits in th glove box of the van. If it was allowed I'd even use it on the ground to trim up brushwood for chipping.
  24. Conifers, birch, small oak/beech etc. I guarantee that if I ran it for 15 hours the blades would have been U shaped along the edge. I only ran the machine to chip, never ticking over, so it was 8 hours solid chipping. Not a bad machine overall. I still think it reminds me of my Landrover:thumbup::thumbup: whatever they say in France.
  25. Apologies for that last post - remember I had 6 years good service from a TW so that was a bit tongue in cheek. You guys carry on TWing and keep happy.
