  1. I hope the Chinese couterfeit guys don't see this or we will be inundated with cheap and dangerous copies. I suspect, however, that over the weekend a few other 'manufacturers' WILL be adding to this thread.
  2. Has it been got at by David Nash? He's done a few clever things with saplings in the past.
  3. That sounds grim. Glad you can continue with something you enjoy, and more importantly, spend time with your little one. Enjoy your family and everything else falls into perspective! Good luck
  4. How much would you realistically get for the tools? If you know they are good reliable machines - would the money you get REALLY give you the option to buy back similar for the same price? If your new income would give you a bit of a financial cushion then no worries. How likely are you to want to return to the 'old ways'. If you really think couriering is the way forward then why hold on to the tools? If in doubt, and you don't need the money then keep them. I must say I agree with Huck - If you think up to £1k a week gross is good going then you should be looking elsewhere, or change your arb strategy. Whatever you decide - good luck with it. PS Ignore any PMs offering you a 'fair' price for your stuff. I would personally keep it, but I'm a hoarder.
  5. Oh learned ones, I've come across this on a beech tree. With my limited skills the closest I can find (and I'm pretty sure I'm wrong) is Trichaptum biformis, but I think thats more USA based. ANy ideas? Everything is sideways in Worthing
  6. Had that years ago, replacement parts were stupidly expensive so we welded the splined drive to the roller. It was working OK for years after.

    "The Donald!"

Bilmey, you must have been bullied as a kid. That's motorcyclists dealt with. Any other group in particular?
  8. The really clever bit is when they all stand up again.

    Pole Chainsaw

Another vote for the Echo. It is also a fair bit heavier than the Stihl, but then again a Unimog is heavier than a BMW 4x4 The Echo also has a small plastic section in the drive train which is designed to fail before any damage is done to the complicated and expensive shaft. It costs about £4.00 to replace, though ours has lasted 4 years. We carry a couple of spares just in case. I used to use a Stihl but got fed up with replacing the drive shaft each time we Knack'd it. I have a 4 mix pole hedge trimmer which had two tanks worth of use then spent months being looked at. Its a 'kin disgrace that we don't even take it out now as it's so unreliable. I would never touch a 4 mix again.
  10. I find cramming all the warring factions into multiple visits over a few days really stressful enough without all the shite domestic politics that comes with it. On top of that... IIRC 6 or 7 of the last 10 family members to die went out during the Christmas period. It wasnt all down to excesses, the causes include cancer, suicide and road accidents. It can be really hard work balancing the bright eyed joy of the little ones with the 'noses rubbed in it' dismay of the older ones. I suggested to a few family members that it would be better to organise a really good birthday do for everyone - that way we get about 15 decent social gatherings throughout the year. No fighting in the Tesco queues over xmas - and no cumulative depression. Most seem to agree, we'll keep Christmas for the children but other than that ......
  11. Do your customers ask for post xmas discounts? How would you react to such a request? Every penny they reduce is entirely off their profit margin. We all NEED certain things so why should retailers reduce stuff if we have to buy it eventually? We should consider ourselves lucky to have all the great retailers out there - just order what we friggin well need, just before we need it. Keep it up you great retailers - you know who you are. Happy and prosperous new year to all (even the penny-pinching skin-flints). C'mon, just spend it!
  12. Yes, years ago. A new barrel was a stupid price and I was told by a 'now defunct' dealer that all keys are the same. I've been using a tea spoon for 5 years now (the old key broke off in the barrel). and spare 'keys' are literally 10 a penny.
  13. Had mine nearly seven years, usual use and abuse, never had any problems. I do adjust the wheel bearings every couple of years (the manual tells you how often).
  14. My son made me a defender to run on my Scalextric track. It's a Britain's metal cast body and he's built it onto a Scalextric undercarriage. It's just amazing - such a lot of effort gone into it.
  15. Not really that bothered about GM, but wouldn't have wished his death. At my age I'm laying low till January.
  16. I used to work in a posh furniture shop, the seats were so uncomfortable that eventually I suffered from.....

    Anyone?

The pricing seems 'optimistic' but if people will pay that why not? As long as they are actually his, of course. Hard luck Andy, still no news I guess. 'kin ba...............'

    Anyone?

Not saying these are hot, but just worth a check if youve been turned over lately. Stihl tools job lot | eBay
  19. They look cool. There's a lot of skill and a real atristic irony gone into them. To take a tree, then with a lot of magical wizardry , turn it into a tree! I like it
  20. The time to really worry is when nobody breaks into the van but things DO go missing. This has happened to me, at home, in the garage, at the yard. Just seems to have got more frequent as I've got older!
  21. Best of luck with it, Kev. It would be nice to see justice done, and good to see someone going down the civilised route rather than reaching for the baseball bat - hurray for grown ups!

    Wages

There is no single, correct answer to the original question. There are two types of answer- One from those who employ. One from those who are employed. I like to think I treat my guys like humans and pay a fair rate - including setting up pensions. If they are unhappy about anything they feel comfortable to come and talk to me. Theyve all been with me a long time and I'm happy with them. As for what I pay them, thats between us - I wonder how many on here would really reveal their exact wage? My mate says..... I know someone who... The fat bloke down the pub recons.... Heard it all before. Ask a prospective employer what they are willing to pay or tell them what you want.
  23. The more shocking news I read today is that Keith Richards is still alive. Can't be....
