  1. Steve, Not seen owt like that. £400 for a ebay trimmer! Can you re-submit the photo with all your credit card showing please?
  2. I think the percentage of 3 ft access depends on the area you work. In Worthing, which is heavily built up I'd say 80% of our jobs are 2'6'' max gate width. A 'full' hydraulic machine is better but it would depend on how many of your jobs it can reach.
  3. It looks like the tree has incurred the wrath of the Mafia, they've not yet concreted over the rebar.
  4. That may be the case - but it does remind me of a Black Adder episode where a 'course of leaches' is recommended by the owner of the largest leach farm in Europe. As long as they don't work loose again they are OK. Strangely, I have a nut on one of my Echo trimmers which occasionally tightens itself and stops the cutter working.
  5. We all pay tax - but we pay too little. Successive governments' fear of losing votes if they do not keep taxes low has maintained an under-funded public sector. We all say we want better policing, better healthcare, better education etc. BUT how much of a tax increase are we willing to pay????? I'd be surprised if any party really has the gonads to offer such a 'grown up' manifesto. I admit I'm not complaining too much because I have never bothered to set up such a party and run for government. Back to the original post - all we can do is to try to keep our kit as safe as possible and not expect the boys in blue to come running when they are both busy doing other stuff.
  6. I looked at a tree once which was in the neighbour's property, but due to a flood we couldn't get within 150 mtrs to quote - is that far enough away?
  7. They will almost certainly be a standard size. I've checked in my user manual but it doesn't specify the wheel bearings. If you can find a local supplier it should just be a case of taking yours down there to match up and away you go.
  8. Really gutted to hear this. He was so young, seemed very knowledgable and level headed with his input. I too, remember his smiling face on his avatar. Condolences to all his family and friends.

    Hot, hot, hot!

It is possible to get melted plastic casings if they are not put on properly after a clean up. I can guarantee, for example, that the stihl MS260 will do this if the top cover is not properly attached. Don't ask how I know this.
  10. The price has just come down, I think they are around £13.50 + VAT for the standard ones and around £16.50 for the bigger ones. I've just bought some from a well known supplier of chipper blades/stumpy teeth. In my experience (with a 25HP predator) they are loads better - must be worth a try on your machine. Why not just buy 1 set and see how you go.
  11. Do you know if it is definitely the remote unit or something wrong at the stump-grinder end? Only asking out of ignorance rather than any smart-arsedness. I assume there must be some transpondy thingamies which receive the instructions from the controls. Good luck anyway.
  12. Water mains can caus eproblems too. We had to remove a cypress which went brown over about four weeks. It turned out the water main in the road had been leaking. The main was fixed the day before we removed the tree. Loads of bizarre possibilities.
  13. Cant help thinking if you need to do that with your new chains you are buying the wrong chains.
  14. If you dont want a telescopic pole then please ignore the following trivia. I've had an echo telescopic pole for years now and it's indestructible. The down side is that the indestructibility means it is heavier. It does work with a hedge trimmer head OK (Stihl dealers used to recommend NOT using a hedge cutter with theirs). The drive has a clutch at the engine end (as do most others) but there is also a short sacrificial plastic section near the top (cost about £2.00 to replace) which is designed to go ping before anything expensive lets go. Tha machine has never let me down and its had a load of use over the years. Only other down side is the enclosed D shaper trigger handle takes a bit of getting used to. Spares? No idea, I've never needed any. I did but a spare placcy drive bit when I bought it (its been waiting in the tool box ever since).
  15. They would have to be very big chippers to 'process' the average American though.
  16. I know how you feel, Eggs. We've lost so many pets over the years. Almost as bad, however, was an old couple in Goring who hung on to their dog for too long. It was deaf and blind, and wearing a nappy. It could barely walk it got into the garden while we were there and kept walking into our equipment and pots that we had moved. Really awful to witness. They came out and retrieved it, full of apologies and a little bit ashamed. All the best - enjoy your remaing time together.
  17. You can solve the 'backing into driveway' issue by putting a tow ball on the front bumper then you can back in, chip over the roof into the trailer and Robert is the brother of one of your parents!
  18. Have you really gone to Thailand just to prepare for your CS41? I can see from the second piccie youve lost some weight - well done!
  19. I would consider a quick visit to my local Trading Standards dept at the Council and show them. They should be able to verify one way or the other. Just because you cant see a catch...... thats how some of these scammers are successful.
  20. Is the money heading to a mastercard that IS yours or have they kindly set it up in your name? How much do you know about 'them'? Why do you have to add the £9k? I would be hesitant if it is a new card they have set up. You said you spoke to them on the phone - I can't recall ever getting money off someone other than my own bank without filling in loads of forms - you were obviously comfortable with their on-line forms. Is there a scam hotline you can check?
  21. Wouldn't you end up with a huge backlog of unpaid work after every storm?
  22. I thought you were going to suggest using cardboard boxes for kindling - but now I see what you mean. Not sure if people expect all 'burning' wood to be supplied in nets to ensure good ventialtion. I guess boxes would be easier to stack/store and not leave any mess. Could be worth a try. Never thought of it myself.
  23. If you dont mind the chasing around to save a few quid, you could try a mechanic. They often have a large box of different diameter rubber sealing rings. You could remove yours and take it along to see if they can match it.
  24. This has to be questionable in terms of using public funding for commercial gain??? Our council has just backed down on charges to dump certain items at the municipal tip. Apart from the increase cost of deling with fly tipping (though I never thought flies were that difficult to clean up) they were apparently challenged on some legal issues and caved in. So they are not always as right as they think they are.
