  1. That has all the hallmarks of Mr Dibnah.
  2. Shooting fish in a barrel springs to mind. That is just wrong in so many ways. Did the previous 'people' say anything to the owners as they departed? This should be a caption competition.
  3. I just feel that people who refer to strangers as 'mate' come across as trying to be familiar when they are strangers. It's my own biased opinion, in the same way that I take an instant dislike to any tattooed BMW driver who drives aggressively - I would not want to have any dealings with such people. As I said earlier, it's just my own perception.
  4. I wouldn't recruit myself with those typos!
  5. The issue for all of us - on both sides of the fence - it's all about perception based on the available 'facts'. If someone only wants to talk to applicants who apply perfect logic throughout the recruitment process then that is what they look for. If a prospective employer is willing to trawl through loads of people by meting up and even trying them out ten that's fine. We all have certain things (based on our own views/bias etc) we look for to weed out those we would not consider. I always ask people to send me something via email. If they can't be bothered to do that then that tells me something. Then with the email I will look at claimed experience, driving license details, qualifications, spelling, grammar and so on. I can see where Al is coming from, maybe harsh, but if that's what he looks for so be it. There are some on here who expect groundsmen to run back from the chipper, some who accept that a colleague crapping in your sandwiches is funny and good for team morale. We are all different. I would never employ someone who phones me up and calls me 'mate'. I just assume people like that are 'geyser' types a la Paul Whitehouse. Don't take it personally and good luck.
  6. Why argue the toss. Just get on and do it - it reads like you will anyway. Forums, and particularly this one, Can be great to get advice or offer opinions. I don't think it is a great place to just make a statement of intent and then expect everyone to agree with you. People on here are just offering their opinions on what you intend to do. Don't let it upset you.
  7. Now you know you are OK with the shed and he can't do anything it might be best to chill out for a few days and just do whatever you feel like about the situation. Venting your anger on here about what you are going to do will just leave you open to annoying smart-arse replies (as above) which will just fuel the situation even more. Go have some beers in your shed and just enjoy yourself.
  8. Where did you say your yard is? No..... just kidding. It really pees me off that Insurance is supposed to be a service where we all pay a premium into a pool then those who need to claim are paid out of that pool. But if you do claim (paid out of the pool) you then are punished the following year because they actually had to do what the original contract said! It's like going into a restaurant, paying for your meal and then having to pay a load more because you had a meal??????????
  9. It may be worth checking the legalities of what they are doing. Last year Worthing Council did exactly this. But after a few months someone found a legal issue and the conclusion was that they were NOT entitled to charge for such stuff as it was the LA's legal duty to offer dumping facilites for free. Rubble etc is now not charged for. And fly tipping has reduced. This actually happened so well worth getting legal bods to look into it.
  10. Maybe at least be seen to wait for all the facts to emerge? Then if the Russians are suss- Chuck out a few dodge 'diplomats' - done that! Withdraw from the world cup - give us all a break from the 'ow carm we nevver bleedin win it'? brigade Reduce trade links with Russia. I would suggest that a declaration of war would be foolish. Oh, unless the Americans join in, then were all fooked anyway- two suns in the sunset!
  11. That'll be them disabled black Eastern-European gay caravan dwellers who follow Islam. Go for it Matelot!
  12. Didn't Confucius say 'Fat kids are the ones who are too scared to ask for porn in the newsagents' How happy men would be, and how skinny women would be if god had reversed the taste of chocolate with the taste of semen.
  13. Shouldn't that read 'All sorted, already'
  14. You could try contacting the tree officer responsible for the area. They should have plans/records of the street trees.
  15. Aha! Why should I share such bargains with anyone else????? Even the stickers on the side say 395 so they MUST be genuine. The last one I saw went up to several thousand pounds when some awful people on this very forum sabotaged the poor fella's attempt to supply us hard working arborists with an economically priced piece of kit! No pleasing some people.
  16. If you search on ebay you can pick up a husky 395 for about £100.
  17. They can be had for less than you think. IIRC FR Jones sell them for £105 + VAT which is outrageously good. I bought one for a back up 6 months ago and it's been fine. It feels a bit 'plasticy' compared to the professional range but seems like very good value - specially if you're not hammering it.
  18. A good 2cms here, causing havoc with the parents on the school run, especially the 4x4 drivers! ?????????? It's as if.......... Maybe they should publish a list of the make/model of all vehicles involved in prangs, then they could have a dick-eds league table
  19. The original Quercus Ilex?????????????
  20. This reminds me of a Blackadder episode where Tom Baker was playing Captain Rum. When asked about the crew the conversation went something like.... Blackadder 'What about the crew'? Rum 'Crew'? Blackadder 'Yes, the crew, I thought it was conventional for a ship to have a crew' Rum 'Aaaargh, there be two schools of thought on that' Blackadder 'Oh God' Rum 'Those who think there shouldn't be a crew - ME, and those who think there should - everybody else'
  21. Not true - He's actually quite an established guy with a house/business etc. He's NOT a ........
  22. You've been framed pay £250, that's far too much.
  23. Yes there would, they would be the good ones. If you were to take up any profession with the same enthusiasm with which you offer your opinions then you would be very successful.
  24. I did that for a couple of years when I first started out (who needs a tipper etc????) But within a day of getting a tipper - vowed I could never go back to the shovel. The problem is, after a hard days graft shovelling 4-6 cube doesn't seem like fun. Pressing a button is better.
