  1. Kev I have had mine about 8 years now and I can back up the fact that it doesnt get any easier starting it. It can be a killer some days and I end up with a sore back and pulled muscles. Never had a saw like it and I wouldnt want another one.

    Stove

Had one of the smaller ones, 8kw but I cant remember the model no. I have burned logs, woodshavings and sawdust with no problems. I now have a hole in it near the flue exit so I am buying one of the square ones of ebay. The relax stoves are quite thin and its fairly easy to get them glowing red. I melted the front piece of the two part cast iron grid so just used it with one. The square stoves on ebay are thicker metal and made in the UK and the company have sold hundreds. Its a bit cheaper to buy them direct from their own website though Wood burning workshop stoves specialist in Herefordshire | Tecnik Stoves
  3. Bad luck mate. I've just given a 10' stem of 12" dia away to my mate for woodturning. I felled id it 2 weeks ago along with a decent cherry and a couple of hornbeam. I get to keep all the wood and get paid for the removals from my workshop landlord.
  4. Dont think its very fair to have a go at them after 5pm when there is nobody to reply. You are not going to solve this by being repetitive and you will just annoy everyone here by doing that. If you are not happy send it back and shut up. Rye oils are a reputable company so its obviously a mistake and they are not trying to rip you off. We all make them sometimes. Its been sorted. The decision to keep it or send it back is yours, just dont keep going on about it.
  5. You make all sorts of outdoor stuff with it eg sheds, log stores, fences, etc. Perfect timber for that sort of work
  6. Thats a new one for me. Not difficult to make at all.
  7. Has anyone got Brian's phone no as I need to contact him for some training. Have done a web search but didnt come up with anything. Mike
  8. Most of them I wouldnt be allowed to use legally. Think I will go with some sort of roundup type thing. Shocked by some of the prices being charged out there.
  9. I have a few decent logs to plank up in the next few months. I have been working this site for a couple of years now and I am geting fed up trying to avoid the nettles, thistles and brambles. Can someone please recommend to me the best weed killer or preferably a suppressant that I can use now to prevent them growing and giving me a less painful life! Mike
  10. I dont claim RHI because I use a normal wood burning stove in the workshop and all I burn is air dried logs and sawdust, offcuts and shavings from my own kiln which I use to dry my slabs of timber. The politicians dont have any incentive to stop the RHI bandwagon because they or their friends and relatives are claiming it. Its morally, environmentally and financially wrong.
  11. If it was up to me I would stop all subsidies on all form of energy production. If the renewable sector is as good as all the tree huggers say it is, then it would be able to stand on its own feet without getting a bung. Its the only industry where you get paid twice for producing something, and the vast majority of it going overseas. I really object to subsidising this through my fuel bills at a cost of about £100 or so a year. This is utter madness and the public are being conned. This is Robin Hood in reverse, robbing the poor to pay the rich. I have been wanting to say that for ages on here as I know the are plenty of members here picking up up good money!
  12. A calender would be of more use than a stopwatch:001_tt2:
  13. And remember to ask for a trade discount of 50%
  14. The business cards are 40p each plus vat which is a discounted rate of 20p for Arbtalk members. You need to email me your details plus your logo which should be preferably a black and white vector graphic. This could be in an AI, pdf, or cdr format. If you can also take a photo of your current card and email that as well that will help with layout etc. Double sided cards can also be made for 60p each plus vat. I then make a sample and email you a photo for proof reading. If any changes are required they are then made and another photo sent. You then decide how many are required and I send you a paypal invoice and when thats paid I make them and send them out. My email address is [email protected] If you have any queries you can also send them via the email address. There is also a full thread on this with sample photos of cards that I have made for members at the Other Offers section of the forum. Mike Dempsey
  15. I bought a couple of Aeroflow dispensing taps from here 10x New 25L Litre Air/Aeroflow Dispensing Tap For Water Containers Drum Bottle | eBay Lot cheaper that chainsaw dealers and makes life a lot easier filling a 5 litre combican from a 25 litre oil container.
  16. I picked up a monkey winch last summer from a mate for £50. He only used it to pull a JCB out of a ditch and then gave it to me. Dont think I will be using it much as I cant even get in into my van as its too heavy! I have a big slab of doug fir as a ramp to get it in the van but I'm scared to take it out the workshop as it is so heavy. I reckon its pretty bombproof and can winch anything:thumbup1:
  17. But they sure as hell are funny:lol:
  18. Hi Will, are you looking for info on how to build your own kiln. I have an issue of American Wooworker as a pdf which I might be able to upload to let folk see one kind of kiln. I didnt follow it exactly but it did give some good ideas.
  19. I square edge all my oak and dont do any bark/sapwood. Thats where most of the tannic acid is which will ruin any kiln heating mechanism eventually. You can also fit more timber in this way as well. I do some waney edged planks some times as well if I need to do some big mirrors/ tables. I dont have a big workshop so storage issues are always around and square edged planks take up less room
  20. I dont air dry my timber before I stick it in the kiln as I dont really have a lot of outdoor storage space, and the little I do have is not secure. The length of time that it takes depends on the thickness of the timber. On average it takes about 4 to 5 weeks to dry 45mm beech.
  21. Thats the right place. I only of 2 churches in Paris and I got the wrong one. Need to have a look at the finger mazes as well. I was well impressed with the minister as he did the complicated drawing for the labyrinth and it didnt take too much tweeking by myself to get it ready for the laser. He assures me he wasnt an engineer/graphic designer in a previous life!
  22. I was asked by the local church minister to make this for him. Its a copy of the maze at Sacre Ceure(?) church in Paris. He had one which had been hand carved and really liked it. He wants to give them as a present to graduating ministers who have had a student placement with him. It took two passes of the laser to do it at 35 minutes a pass. The wood I made it from is spalted sycamore which I have had for a few years in the workshop and the diameter is 302mm
  23. That looks like really good fun therefore that makes it illegal in this country! Bound to be something in the anti-terrorism laws which will see you you get at least a year inside for making that:thumbup:
  24. Thats who I bought mine from a couple of years ago when it was first mentioned on here. Good stuff and not expensive.
  25. I have had one for about 4 years now. Originally built the way sauno suggested with the insulation panels. It was very fragile and crumbly but worked fine for about 4 uses. Got fed up of it the last time because the door was warped and leaked like mad. Eventually kicked it to bits through frustration and took it to the local tip. I am nearly finished my second kiln now. I have used douglas fir as a frame and put 9mm plywood in to line it with . I have filled it in with 3 inch insulation board and skinned it with 12 osb. My door and the insides have all been lagged with fibreglass to waterproof it which was a massive messy and smelly job. Its well over engineered but I didnt want to warp anywhere, I cant even lift the door on my own. I am waiting for some kiln gasket to come in from the States and I need to buy some handles for the door in order to finish it but I am so busy with other jobs that might have t wait for 2 to 3 weeks. In operation it works ok. There was a batch of kiln mechanisms which were faulty and mine had to be sent back but the replacement is good. It works quite simply and my timber was dry all the way through. Its better to give it too long rather than trying to rush it and take the timber out early. Most of my timber is now cut up into 10" planks and they are all tied down with ratchet straps - this saves you from having propellors when you open it up.
